It was in this moment, with the passing of trees and low hanging branches, with the crunching of leaves as she stumbled and staggered through, holding her shoulder all the while...it was then that she truly felt like a wild animal. She still had no idea what she was turning into, but caught up in this moment she definiately felt like prey. Yes, she felt she had gotten the last laugh when she'd pushed Billy's wheelchair in the lake, but if she lost any more blood then HE definately would be having the last.
She gritted her teeth and stopped a moment. Which way was it....left or right.... She held onto her shoulder tighter. She must have looked a mess. Her hair was stringy and matted with mud crusted into it, her once silky white fur was now a dull greyish color with all the dirt that had been pressed into it, her feet were bear which only added to her frustration as she stepped over stones and twigs, and then there was the blood... oh god the blood. It now covered her left shoulder and right hand, and there was even some on her fur. It was horrible. Not to mention she smelled like she had just kissed a fish...and in a way she had...
Disturbing thought.
But she had to keep going. Dont stop...don't stop...fight goddamnit...move your a** Maryke.... The more she inwardly yelled at herself. The faster she moved. So she kept the action up as she continued moving in hopes of getting to safety.

Emerwyn had spent many days now by the river. She was drained, truly drained. Her inspiration was starting to slip slowly away, melting into a strange monotony that had taken control of her. Nothing was worth doing anymore. So, tired and lathargic, she went through each day finding food, bathing, and running. Yes, there was much running. She would run and run and run until there was nowhere else to go. She'd become much better at finding her way back to the village, when she actually felt like returning. Whenever she brought herself to go to her room, the papers covered with sloppy notes would glare at her accusingly. There was nothing more to do, to discover. It was over.
She was trotting back from another dead run through the trees and vines, when a vile smell caught her nose. She slowed to a gentle walk, her ears perked and eyes widening. She smelled blood. Faintly, but it was there. A predator would have been able to smell it much better, but her nose was sensitive enough. Emerwyn followed it tentatively, not sure what she would find at the end of her trail.
What she did find was quite a mess. A familiar mess. Emerwyn came up to her from behind, a look of concern at Maryke's hair, the way in which she held herself, and the wound on her shoulder. "Maryke!" She ran, now, around to her front. "What happened?! Are you alright?"

Maryke jumped as her sensative ears picked up someone rushing up behind her. It couldn't have been Billy...but she knew there were other monters out here and she was an easy target. She instantly breathed a sigh of relief when she saw a familar face, and one that might actually be able to help her.
"M'okay..." she murmured, still feeling dizzy, especially as she attempted to turn around and face Emerwyn. No of course she wasn't fine. That was evident in her bloody shoulder, but especially...in her eyes. No the madame would NEVER admit that she was scared or worried, but she couldn't hide her eyes. Right now her hazels were dilated and taking on frantic hues and tones, her panic evident through and through. She shook her head slightly. Why were there two....not twins....no....why two... Maryke blinked some more and then shook once more just for good measure.
"That b*****d bit me..." she managed, head dipping slightly as she clung to her shoulder and attempted to think straight.

And Emerwyn did see this in the injured woman's eyes, now that she had turned to face her. Her concern grew, and she swallowed. Maryke needed attention, and not just the kind that the deer could offer.
"Someone did this to you?? Come with me, I shall take you to clean this up. Then we will need to see about halting this bleeding." She took Maryke on her clean side, to offer aid back to the village.

Again she blinked, Emerwyn's words suddenly sounding very far away. But with her ruffed ears, hearing was supposed to be easier. Least that's what she thought. She didn't know. She couldn't think at the moment. She stared, the hazels looking almost plastic with how badly she was concentrating. But she understood, somewhat, the words that Emerwyn had spoken to her. Hurt...hurt her....water...blood......hurt..Billy
"Billy," she she muttered, as she felt some of her weight lessen as Emerwyn offered her aide. She couldn't understand what was going on next. Though talking fast was a trademark in her and her race, these words simply sounded faster then anything she had ever heard before. Maybe it was all in her head. Maybe she was going crazy.
She nodded slightly. "oh....okay..."

She was led slowly through the trees, Emerwyn being very careful not to overwork Maryke, and cause her to pass out. There was not much she could do for her now, and the only way she'd be able to stop the blood flow by even a margin would be by bringing her to the village.
Billy. "Billy did this to you?!" That moody octopus man. What on earth had happened between them, that Billy would - attack her?

At this point Maryke's brain had left on hiatus. Maybe it was some sort of mental block there to help dull the pain or even make her take whatever was happening to her body easier. Whatever it was, she wasn't all there.
"Yes, Billy......we....he....and then he....," she mumbled, pressing into Emerwyn more. She blinked and began to whimper, memories molding with the reality at hand to confuse and torment her. "Momma says m'ugly..." such a random statement. But, behind her eyes, for what she was seeing, mixed in with the trees and the grass and the path they were on, it made sense inside her own mind.

Emerwyn looked ahead sadly as Maryke. It was either the pain, the blood-loss, or some possible trauma that was making her delusional. Or a combination of the three. She pulled the young woman, who seemed to be snuggling into her arm, away from a nearby tree that was threatening to graze her arm. They were almost out of the woods, literally.

"m'not ugly, m'not...." she continued, she suddenly felt helpless. She followed Emerwyn's movements when she moved, continuing with her mantra of babble.
"Hurts.....n'm'tired..." she stumbled a bit, thought recovered only because a friend was there. There was pressure around her head, mostly centered around her eyes. And everything felt hazy, as if the sky was darkening or closing in on itself. Who could say. "Tired..." she mumbled again, "I don't wanna be ugly....anymore...."

Emerwyn started to stroke Maryke's filthy hair comfortingly. "Shhh, it's alright. You are not ugly. And you shall be able to rest very soon. I shall make certain that you will be just fine. You will be just fine..." She continued to coo and cajole her as the jungle began to thin, and the village came into view.

Her head dipped down once more when she went to nod. She felt like she was going to vomit then, but either her stomach was completely empty or it was just a feeling, as nothing happened. "Adriana's better..." she mumbled, finally saying her dead sister's name outloud since the night she had been murdered. "Momma says so..."
She looked up slightly, seeing the village, but just barely. It had to have been still day, but it looked like night. Maryke was slowly fading....and fast.

Maryke wasn't looking any better, and Emerwyn was starting to feel her weight depend on her more and more. They came to the village, and Emerwyn began to speed up a bit. If Maryke could make this last stretch up the stairs to Emer's room, she should be fine...

She stopped talking then, her tongue had gone slack and felt heavy within her mouth. Still things grew darker. The wound had stopped bleeding, and that was good. Didn't exactly help much in her current state. But at least she wouldn't die.
She moaned slightly, who knows what she was actually trying to say and pressed on.

The trip up the stairs was more than mildly difficult, but they managed, after laboring slowly. Emerwyn forced open the door, and led Maryke to her bed on the far side. There, she laid her down, and quickly proceeded to get a spare strip of fabric from her cloak-sewing. She got it damp and placed it over Maryke's forehead. Then, she retrieved one more, and knelt beside the young woman to clean her wound, dabbing at it carefully, removing what dirt she could.

Maryke let herself be led around, not having much choice in the matter. But now that she was indoors, and now that was was laying, things were so jumbled up around in her head. Her breathing stopped being so ragged, and though it was still abnormal at least that was waning into normalcy.
She moaned again, mumbling incoherrantly once more, her hazels ticking around and around the room until they settled on Emerwyn. "Hurts..."
