This was so... Boring, thought Darsaisas she kicked her heels against the bottom of the bench. It wouldn't have been nearly as bad if someone else was there, but the fact was she was alone in the lobby, it was raining, and she knew that she couldn't leave until Silverah and Nereida got back.
Whenever that was.
She frowned down at her feet that wouldn't touch the ground even if she really really tried. Why did she have to be so little? It wasn't fair. Everyone else she had met was bigger than her! Even the other Kybernetiks her own age!
Which reminded her that she'd heard Kluster had grown which just made her more angry. When was it going to be her turn? After all, she and Kluster were the same age if she remembered correctly. Something like two days apart. Or one. Or none. She wasn't exactly clear on the subject.
But they were close enough that it wasn't fair he was already grown and she was still a tiny little... whatever.
And this was still boring.

Alia wasn't the type of person to get bored: in fact, it wasn't in her programming, and therefore impossible for her to do. However, she did realize the lack of ability to do anything, seeing as how Sophie had gone to take a nap and all the paperwork was already done (for once). She had no need to watch any DVDs, as she had already memorized and analyzed the content, so she found herself in a vegatative state. However, the lifeless Kybernetik would not stay that way for long: she decided that it was likely that some papers were not filled out, and thus began her journey to the front lobby.
The kybernetik paused before she entered the room: it seemed another was there. "Walse," she confirmed in her cold voice, before stepping silently over to the main desk, searching for anything Sophie could've forgotten to do. Her good eye skimmed over the report that Kluster had grown, but did not think too much of it: she'd already seen the plans, and was soon going to look at the plans for her own older form. It seemed Walse was ready for growth as well, and she logged this information away for later analysis. But, for now, she turned to the other child, as she knew that her programming was closer to that of a human's and as such would desire attention.
"Have you come for a routine checkup? I believe the Doctor is away," Alia said, bringing up the only relavent information she could put into a conversation. "I can wake Sophie, if you'd like, but I'm not sure she is qualified to upgrade you yet."

Darsais looked up, somewhat startled by Alia's sudden entrance. It wasn't that they didn't know eachother -they had met over the summer- but Darsais was always startled by the other child. Her manners were strange, her face even stranger.
"No, I'm not here for a checkup."
Stupid, she berated herself. Of course Alia was here. She lived here.
"Mom's busy today, so she left me here."
And besides, if Sophie had built Alia, the prospect of having her doing whatever a growth involved was remotely terrifying.
"What do you do around here?"

Alia nodded, then walked closer, despite the fact that the other Kybernetik was showing signs of anxiety, and sat down on the bench, looking around the room. "I do some of the administrative paperwork for Sophie, or I study what she calls 'DVDs', so I can understand better how to interact with others." A soft, barely audible whirr meant that Alia was deep in thought, and it was a moment before she turned to look at Darsais again.
"Would you like to come and see? Perhaps you can help add to my notes: I don't quite understand my deficiency just yet."

Anything was better than sitting here, thought Darsais. She nodded. "Sure," she said, hopping off the bench and facing Alia.
Suddenly she felt short again. The other girl was easily almost a foot taller than her.
"I do hope to grow soon, though," Darsais added quickly, as if defending her height. She and Alia were both prototype generation, so there was some co-misery. Darsais was much too short, Alia was much too strange. Or something like that.
"Where are we going?"

Alia looked at the girl before walking, seeming not to notice the strange height. "I believe that when I grow, I am supposed to have more human-like qualities, to better assimilate into the general populace. It's more for Sophie's contentment than mine: my only needs are a higher processor."
They kept walking down a clean hall until they found a door, similar-looking to the others. "This is the Rec Room," Alia explained, opening the door and then walking towards a television set that looked like it was modeled from an old computer monitor. Strewn about were countless child movies, and Alia paused, motioning to the girl.
"You may pick which one we view, since I have memorized them all already."

More like wreck room, thought Darsais, looking at the boxes. They were strewn about so randomly that it looked like a tornado had gone through.
"Can we watch Toy Story?" Darsais asked, picking up the box and holding it out towards Alia.
Darsais had seen Toy Story a few times, but she wasn't feeling particularly adventurous.

"We can watch Toy Story, if that's what you'd like. I really have no preference."
Alia gently took the box from Darsais's hands, opened it, and inserted the DVD into the drive. Just as the Disney logo appeared on the screen, the young girl made room for her bottom among the strewn boxes and sat down, clearing away some space for the dancer as well. It wasn't long into the movie, though, that Alia became curious, and tilted her head back to the other Kybernetik.
"I wonder...is that what we're supposed to be like. The toys...they're not real people. Does that make us toys?"

Darsais pondered the question. It was an interesting one, to be certain. What were they?
"I think we're more important than that," she replied carefully. "Or somthing. And they only wake up when there's no one around. I sure don't feel like a toy. Do you?"

Alia seemed to ponder the idea for a moment, then turned her attention back to the movie being watched. "I don't have any data on what I'm supposed to feel like, so I don't know if I'm supposed to feel like I'm a toy or not. However, based on the current facts, I would assume that we're not. Neither of us is small enough."

This was too excellent a chance to pass up, Doc decided, hearing the two little girls talking upstairs. Getting them both into the lab for growths would be impossible, considering everyone's hectic schedules. Here was a golden opportunity to finish their growths! (And everyone knew they were both more than ready.) He took the stairs two at a time and paused in the doorway.
They were watching Toy Story. What would the psychological implications of that be?
"Girls?" he asked cautiously, as not to make them panic.

Alia didn't seem to be affected by the sudden noise, and turned expectantly as she looked at the Doc with a blank stare, the movie still going on in the background.
"Hello, Doctor," she said in a plain voice, already assuming his reasons for coming and standing up. "Do you need just one of us, or both?"

Darsais also turned around and looked at Doc. Doc was, in her experience, most often associated with upgrades - growing up, waterproofing, etc. So his presence could only mean one thing.
"Are we gonna grow?" she exclaimed excitedly.

Doc chuckled at their enthusiasm. "Yes, I need both of you, and yes, you're both growing. Doesn't that sound fun?"
Well, of course not, but they didn't need to know that.

Alia stepped forward, very sure of what was to occur. After all, Sophie had already shown her then blueprints for her own growth, and she'd gotten to see the file on Kluster's. Her own growth would likely run just as smoothly, so Alia had no objections.
Sophie came in behind Doc, rubbing her eyes and waving to Darsais. "You guys are ready, right? We don't want to hurry a change if you're more comfortable where you are."
"I am content with any body, but would like to test the new modifications you have made, Sophie," Alia replied, walking out of the room, then looking back to Darsais with an expectant stare. "I would also like to observe a Kybernetik growth for myself, for data purposes."
