She had to run. Far, far away. Far away to a place where no one knew of her or her legacy. But just how far away was this place? She was no seer like her guardian had been, and so she couldn't check the minds of the wolves in each area. So she just ran, on and on, her paws carrying her over vast lands that changed dramatically as she continued on.

Eventually, the oddly-colored wolf ended up in a densely forested area. It comforted her but then again made her nervous. She could hide behind trees and bushes and such, but then so could others.

Whisking her tail back and forth, the female stopped for only a moment. She was on the move a second later, her sore paws moving like jello. Eris really needed to rest, but she didn't know if she could really trust this place. It seemed a little deserted, but that's only because she hadn't stopped to sniff for borderlines or anything.

Sighing, she stopped again, her legs shaking from all the miles she had run. Lifting her head, she looked around quickly, her feather swinging around.

"Where am I?"

He was hungry.

It was only three days since the chocolate colored wolf had left the protective boundaries of his great seaside pack, and although he had not given up yet, the great marauder was beginning to loose faith in his abilities of survival. Just slightly. There was still a few more knocks to that faith before he’d really give up, but it was somewhat hanging.

As it were, he was gnawing on the end of a dirty old bone at the moment he heard the female’s winded voice question the blank air. His ears perked in confusion, and the bright yellow points of his eyes slowly rose to listen.

“Eh-?” Sawyer remarked, rising to his feet, bone still in mouth. “How am I supposed to know where you are?”

At the sound of the strange voice behind her, the female immediately whirled around to see who it was. Brown fur. That was the first thing she saw, and it set off a great alarm in her head. Dunn. Although this wasn't Dunn, she was suspicious of this wolf being a spy. Sawyer looked harmless enough, but she kept herself on guard anyways.

Narrowing her eyes at him, she lowered her head down a little so that her vulnerable throat wasn't so exposed. "I wasn't asking you," she said bitterly, her breathing still heavy from all of the running she had been doing.

Something rustled in the bushes beside her, making her jump onto her toes, ready to flee at the first sign of danger. A little squirrel chittered then immediately ran up the tree once it caught sight of her and the other wolf. Eris let out a frustrated sigh. She was really tired of all this running. She needed answers.

"Hey, look, I'm in a bit of a bind. Do you know a wolf named Dunn?" she asked quickly, all of her senses telling her she shouldn't mention his name. But she needed some information. She couldn't keep running forever.

Sawyer paused, and shifted his muzzle, pulling up the flesh of his lips up and over his gums in a peculiar expression of pondering. “Dunn? Dunn who?” A grin suddenly crossed his face as a slight pun pulled itself forth from the words, and he chuckled somewhat tastelessly. “No, seriously.” He spoke, shaking it off. “Who is that? I don’t know Dunn. Do you know Dunn?”

It was a given- but Sawyer didn’t tend to think before he spoke. His voice spilled out of his mouth classelessly and with little consideration about the mentality of those who had to listen to him. But despite that- he did have a somewhat charming face, albeit marred by the smug look of self satisfaction that hadn’t left itself from the moment the brightly colored female had came on scene.

“Hey- you’ve got a dangly from your ear.”

Eris narrowed her eyes at the other wolf. She couldn't seem to decide on whether he was acting stupid or whether he really was just stupid. If he was just pretending, well, he was a very good actor.

Sighing in frustration, she simply shook off his silly question. It was stupid of him to ask something like that, and, personally, she felt that more of a joke than a serious inquiry. And his joke didn't sound very funny to her ears. Not after all she had seen. Dunn was not a wolf to joke around with or about. Not at all.

When he talked about something dangly, she paused for a moment to get this questioning look on her face. It took her a moment to realize that he was talking about her feather.

"Uhm, yeah," she mumbled, all of her senses telling her to just bolt away from this place. But for some reason, she couldn't leave him. "A feather, from a friend." Eris only said friend and not human because she didn't know this wolf's views concerning the two-legged.

Having stood there now for more than a few minutes, which was the most she had ever stood still in the past two days, the female grew anxious. Her ears flicked this way and that as her eyes darted from side to side. It was as if she was eager to leave Sawyer and this place behind, but at the same time she didn't want to be rude and just run off. He seemed innocent enough... and by innocent she meant stupid.

Sawyer blinked, his still growing body long and unproportionate as he moved towards the brightly colored female. As it were- he did not mind humans much. Apparently there was a human girl living in his old pack- although he’d never happened upon her. His other experiences with them had been close to none.

“A friend?” The brown wolf remarked. “I didn’t think you had friends, runnin around like that. It’s a pretty feather though.” The male rambled.

And then- back to the beginning.

“Who is Dunn?”

Eris didn't immediately notice when the other wolf stepped closer towards her. She was too busy checking her surroundings and sniffing the air to make sure no other wolf was lurking somewhere in the bushes, ready to ambush. In her mind, everything was a trap until she could gather some allies, which was why, when she did notice Sawyer had stepped closer, she lowered her ears defensively and backed up.

"Yes, a friend. I had to leave him, though. Personal reasons." It wasn't a total lie, but then again she wasn't about to tell him the whole truth either. He didn't need to know, at least not until he had proven himself.

"Thanks," she mumbled afterwards, her attention leaving the male for a few more seconds as she scanned the area around them. Nothing yet.

Looking back at Sawyer, she tuned in just in time to hear him ask about Dunn again. The name sent shivers up her spine, and she regretted ever bringing him up. "He is a bad wolf. Just be glad you don't know him," she informed the other vaguely, her eyes narrowing with fear and hatred towards the alpha of her supposed birthpack.

"What's your name anyways?" she asked randomly, her tail flicking with a bit of curiousity.

Watching her sniff around was making him edgy, not that he allowed it to show through. Was someone really coming this way for her? He had been sure they were alone. At least- he had been alone before she had burst on the scene minutes before.

Sawyer huffed, and shifted his chocolate ears. “I am glad I don’t know him. Anyone with a name like Dunn isn’t going to get the attention of a vagabond like me.” He retorted, and slid his yellow eyes towards the female. “Why-? He after you or something like that? There isn’t anyone like that here, so I don’t think you need to be running about like that.”

“My name?” The wolf spoke, sucking in a breath in his chest with the pleasure of it all. With a long grin, he stalked forward, rising his paw to the side as he swayed his tail. “My name is Sawyer.”

If Eris had been a more trusting--or perhaps just stupid--wolf, she might have told the male everything. But so far, all of the events in her life had forced her to become cautious and wary of everyone she came into contact with until she made allies. Thus, Sawyer was only told vague details.

"He wants to kill me," she stated plainly, looking around once more before letting herself settle again. Sawyer had said that he was a vagabond and, by the way he used the word so casually, she figured that he really was. She no longer believed that he might be acting. Maybe she was naive or something, but she really thought that what he was saying and doing was sincere and not at all spy-like. "And thanks for the reassurance, but I'm not going to let my guard down. Dunn has... ways... in which he successfully hunts things."

When the female was told his name, she became most certain that this was not a spy for Dunn. The cruel dictator seemed to prefer strong names and, with no offense to Sawyer, his name didn't seem like one Dunn would appreciate.

"It's nice to meet you, Sawyer. I'm Eris." Finally settling down after her long run, the brightly-colored female craned her neck and licked at her shoulders. The fur around there seemed to be matted with sweat and dirt, and she didn't very much like it, so she tried to clean it off as best as she could. When she was semi-finished, she looked back around towards the brown wolf.

"So you really are by yourself?" she asked, her ears cocking to the side. She simply wanted to make sure...

If Sawyer was being told half details, he didn’t pick up on it at all. He listened about as quietly as he could, the end of his tail slowly swaying behind him. It was a movement that could have been construed as calculating- but unfortunately, it was unlikely that such thoughts were running through his mind at the time. So this Dunn fellow was after her? He’d never heard of a wolf named that before. And why would he be after her anyways?

“Why would he want to go do a thing like that?” Sawyer quirked. “What’d you do to make him want to kill you?” He didn’t say it in much of an accusing way- actually, his voice somewhat hiked in admiration as he mentioned it. He could only hope he’d one day do something that would get him that kind of attention. He was a vagabond, after all.

“Eh-?” He quirked, pivoting his large ears. “Alone- no, you’re here.”

He smiled somewhat dumbly as she introduced herself, and watched her try to lick the dirt off of the back of her neck. “Do you want to was that off?”

Eris noticed the little sway of his tail, but she didn't mistake that for calculating. She thought he might have been wondering, but not really thinking deeply or anything. What was there to really think about? Perhaps reasons why Dunn would be after her? She didn't know, but really she didn't care. She was very tired and needed rest and some food soon.

Looking at Sawyer warily, she merely shook her head. "It isn't important," she replied, avoiding the question. He seemed too interested in Dunn's motivations, and she really didn't want to talk about them.

When he replied to her that he wasn't alone because she was there, she really didn't know how to respond. It was true, he actually wasn't alone with her there. But that hadn't been her question. She thought about asking again, but figured it would take too much energy. Besides, Sawyer probably was all alone. It had been quite a while since she had chanced upon him and so far she hadn't scented, heard, nor seen anyone else. She doubted any spies would wait so long to ambush her or anything.

Sighing tiredly, Eris shook her head again. "No, I'm fine. I just need rest right now." She yawned, showing her great canines, to prove her point. "Do you know of any place I can stay for the night?"

Sawyer wagged the end of his tail, his yellow eyes flashing. “Sure- um, you can stay near the pack borders if you want? I don’t live there anymore- of course, but, I’m sure Mum wouldn’t care much.” The brown male remarked. As much as he claimed to go against pack life- he had a fond spot for the sea pack and the wolves there. Even if his brother was a bit of a hippie, and well, mom tended to banter. Their grandfather was a nice sort though- the alpha of the pack.

But the thought occurred to him [miraculously] that it might not be in Eris’s ideal to hang around other wolves. That seemed odd, but maybe she was just really antisocial or paranoid about this Dunn fellow or something. Strange stuff really. “But...oh. You don’t probably want to be around other wolves, do you?”

“If you’re that tired, I mean, you can sleep in my hole or something. But I’ll want it back you know.”

Eris immediately went back on high alert when she heard him mention pack borders. There was a pack around here. This wasn't a safe spot for her to be in, not in her condition. What if they viewed her as a threat? What if they knew of the Prophecy and of Dunn and tried to kill her? It might have been a bit farfetched in some others' minds, but she never left out any possibilities. Anything could happen to her.

"Pack?" she squeaked, looking around cautiously as her ears folded back against her skull. Why couldn't she have been a seer like Raghnall? Her life would have been so much easier.

"You're right, I'd rather be alone--" Sawyer was right back on track to being considered a spy.

Taking one careful look around, the female made sure that no one was going to ambush her that very second. "I'll just be on my way, get myself out of your fur," she said, trying to sound kind. She just really wanted to get out of this place, especially since she now knew there was a pack nearby and this wolf was somehow associated with it.

With all of her fears running high in her veins, she turned slowly around, expecting him to let her take her leave.

Sawyer stumbled somewhat in confusion, and unabashedly trotted after her. “What?” He remarked, the end of his tail flicking. “No no- if you don’t want to stay at the pack, you know you can sleep in my hole. I don’t sleep in it anyway. Actually, it’s not even mine.” he’d stolen it a little while ago from a coyote because he’d felt like it. Stunk like coyote but...

“Your kinda fidgety, you know? Are you being watched or something?” Somehow- this conversation was becoming rather repetitive. Although he had a somewhat rough expression- he did seem to be honestly....either confused, or very interested.

“You shouldn’t worry about stuff like that here. Everyone watches everyone here.” Wait. That was wrong. “I mean- there are a lot of wolves here. Not bad wolves though. Well. That’s wrong, there are bad wolves. But they don’t go hasseling girls. Sometimes. I’m not sure. No- I don’t think they do.”

Eris stopped mid-step as she heard the other come after her. Vaguely she wondered why he seemed to be so interested in where she was going and why she was so edgy. Hadn't she told him all of the reasons anyways?

Folding her ears back in slight annoyance, she forced herself to listen to him and to at least try and handle him. After all, she would need to start gathering up allies soon, and she couldn't do that unless she was fully rested and well-fed. How was she to do that if she couldn't even settle down to rest for a night with some male around? He had proven himself to her to be rather forgetful and not spy material.

Once Sawyer had finished with his talking, the female narrowed her eyes, trying to decide. Should she go or should she stay? He hadn't seemed very informative with his words, the way they came out all jumbled. But from what she gathered, this wasn't a bad place, really.

Sighing, she loosened up and gave a slight nod. "I suppose I could stay, but just for the night. I've got things to do after I rest," she informed him, being vague and evasive yet again.

Remembering his comment about her being fidgety, she got this look on her face like 'why do I even bother?'. "I already told you. Someone is trying to kill me." She said the last part slow, just to make sure he got it.

"Anyways, where is this... hole?"
