((This is slightly future-set, for the sake of keeping the timeline going. Post-Mufasa's death by about 5-6 days.))
After her most recent strange encounter with the slightly hard to read Naraka, Mosi had given up on brooding alone. She still didn't know what she'd expected to find, but she imagined that whatever purpose she had for being there, she'd served it. She had come out unharmed, so decided that listening to those feelings more often was probably to her benifit, even if she couldn't always see it directly.
It was the following evening, almost a full week after the death of the Prideland's king, and the somber air that most of the pride kept was beginning to wear thin on her. She hated seeing her grandmother so dejected, though she tried not to show that.
The dark lioness moved like a shadow through the lands, which... already, without the gentle-giant she'd met seemed... so quiet. Part of this was because she was avoiding a certain friend of hers, but Mosi was finding that more and more she wanted to spend time with Jini. Today, however, she was actually seeking out Juhudi, a friend she hadn't seen in a while, not since before Mufasa's death.
Figuring the other might be both in mourning and exploring his new home besides that, she hadn't wanted to bother him, but realized that as a friend so much time shouldn't go by with no visit whatsoever, so she was on her way-- tracking him. At first his scents were a bit vague, faint, but soon she caught a solid trail, and followed it. Where would she find Juhudi, and in what state?

He sat on a slight hill, or rather a raised plain just high enough to look down on the grazing herds in the distance, his light form silhouetted in the shade of a small tree. The young lion was silent, contemplative, a look of sorrow in his pale blue eyes as he looked out over the horizon, his red mane ruffling in the light breeze that rustled the leaves nearby. Juhudi was no stranger to death having been touched by it at such a young age with the lose of his mother. But for one so young, that didn't make the lose any easier. And though he had only been in the lands and known its king for a short time, the old king had briefly filled a place that had long been empty in the adolescent's life. A dark paw flexed, as if closing around something, the necklace he normally wore around his neck noticeably abscent. Perhaps the lose of the king had reminded him of the past, of something that he had been unprepared to face again.

"Hey..."
The word seemed inadequet, and meaningful all in one breath. The tone of which it was spoken with indicated that the speaker recognized the pain that the listener was obviously feeling, but it also seemed to make clear just how at a loss for words she herself was.
He was missing the necklace that she'd first seen him with. Wondering if it had to do with Mufasa, she wasn't sure if it would be insensitive for her to ask though.
The dark lioness settled down to sit next to him without necessarily being invited, noting the difference in size since she'd last seen him. She'd gotten bigger, but it seemed that he had as well. How much longer until his mane grew all the way in?
".... You doin' okay...?" She asked softly, eyes turning to him.

Ears flicked at the sound of a familuar voice, his head turned to look at his friend. He gave her a small smile, and though it was strained it was sincere, he was truly glad to see her and welcomed her company. He was silent for a moment, his posture shifting closer to her dark form, his head brushed against her shoulder in a gesture of friendship and perhaps mutal comfort. She had grown so much since they'd first met, as had he, they had matured. "Yeah...I was just thinking. What about you?"

She gave a faint purr, the sound barely audible. As her question was returned with both answer and query, Mosi also gave an expression that suggested she was fairing better than at first, but that it still hurt.
"Me too, a lot more than I'm used to."
~I just feel so useless.~ She sighed softly, eyes drifting to her white toes and the grass before them.

He nodded, looking down at his paw and the leather necklace that had belonged to his mother. The king's death had struck him hard, not only having lost the only father figure he had ever know, but it was all too close to how he had lost his mother on that day that she had given her life to save him from a vicious male. But even in sorrow, there was something that spoke to him, that touched his heart, and it caused him to lift his head, looking toward the sky and the stars beyond. He knew they were there, even in daylight, he knew the stars still looked down, watching over those below. "He's not really gone, he's up there...watching us, even though we can't see him. Maybe he's met my mother." A soft smile touched his maw at that thought and he wondered what they would talk about and if they would say anything about him or the friend who sat beside him.

"Yeah...?" Mosi's eyes drifted skyward after Juhudi's. His words struck a chord within her that accompanied the realization-- he was right. They were taught that the kings of the past watched over the Pridelands, and beyond that, her grandmother had taught she and her brother that their loved ones did too. "Maybe.... my grandfather and uncle are up there too. What do you think they'd talk about if they did meet?" She asked, smiling a little, feeling a bit better already, even if she was still sad that things happened the way they had. She'd never lost a family member before, like Juhudi had, and the news of this, as a result, was also hitting her rather hard. Mufasa had quickly become like the grandfather she never had, like a second father, or an uncle, like Ausi'Juu herself was in the opposite sense.

He closed his eyes, ears flicking as if trying to listen to the words they might say, smiling as he tried to imagine the conversations they would have. Audibly those who had passed on could not be heard, but the adolescent was certain they could and did speak to the heart. "I think they'd talk about family and their adventures while they lived, about those they left behind. About us...and how proud they are." As he spoke those last words, he turned to his friend, a smile of geniune happiness replacing the look of sorrow. He was certain that they would say that, he knew it deep in his heart, as certainly as he had ever known anything. His paw closed tightly around the necklace he had held, lifting it to his heart as if it spoke to him, assuring him of his mother's vigilant watch from the stars. Motivated by what he wasn't sure, he rested his chin against his friend's shoulder, remaining close to her, perhaps it had just seemed like the right thing to do. "Yes, I'm sure that's what they'd say."

"I think you're right. I wonder what kind of stuff they did as kids anyway. I wonder if they were as wild as me and some of the others here."
There was a brief pause, followed by a soft giggle, her tail batting against his side unintentionally as they began to ease out of their depression. Somehow the vision of Mufasa battling Ratels and terrorizing his parents both did and didn't fit in her mind, but it made her laugh. Would her aunts and uncles be like that? Nieces and nephews if she ever got any from Jini? And what about her friend's kids?
She rolled onto her side some, taking comfort in her friend's wise words and using him for a prop, while his chin remained resting no her shoulder and neck, purring.

His smile broadened, a faint laugh breaking through his jaws at the thought of his mother and the old king as cubs. Maybe they ran around like silly little cubs up there sometmes, restored to their youthful energy. "Maybe even more so." Somehow he could just imagine the old king as an energetic cub who insisted on exploring even the most dangerous places, and his mother terrorizing her own parents by running off after wildebeasts. Whether that image was accurate he could never know, but it made him happy to think it was true. His posture shifted a bit, comfortably supporting her weight when she leaned against him, purring softly as his tail curled, a gentle embrace.

"Yeah, somehow I get the feeling that it's the quiet ones who act the most wild as kids" She laughed, comfortable. "I can just see them hopping hippos or something. I wish I'd done stuff like that when I was a kid, but actually getting away with it was an entirely different story."

The young lion couldn't help but laugh. "Or taunting wildebeast and chasing zebras." His ears flicked a bit a bit at the reference to herself as a child in past tense. It was amazing how much they had both grown and matured, both adolescents now, himself rapidly approaching adulthood, his mane seeming to grow fuller each day. And while physically he knew he had grown, his heart would always remain that of a cub. "Well, there's no reason you couldn't do that now if you wanted to."

A plesant warmth settled over her, and Mosi found that she couldn't help but chuckle and feel glad. Mufasa had fought to protect this very peace that they were enjoying now, it would be a horrible misdeed to act unappreciative of that sacrifice. Her encounter with Naraka was finally put out of mind, not to be brought up again so easily.
"Somehow I think we're a little too big for that."

He smiled at her, nuzzling against her affectionately, tail flicking, his mane ruffled in the light breeze. "Maybe, but you're never to big to have fun." Pale eyes looked at the lioness leaning against him, then to the land that surrounded them. This place truly was beautiful, a home to cherrish and protect. And it was here and now, with his friend in this place, that he truly felt that he had found where he was meant to be, he had found his place.
