It had been her vacation time, she needed to be around Keivlos right now, but on that bright and beautiful Friday morning Madeline had received a call that she would be needed for work. "But you don't understand--I am away right now!" Snidely the tech had replied, "Well obviously if your at home your not away so you can come into the office.

Needless to say she was rather upset and irritated, especially since she had been called into shot duty. It wouldn't be that horrible, but remembering giving shots to Keanu still gave her a shudder of dread.

At least today’s patient was a girl, Madeline liked girls better than boys. They weren't quite as rambunctious as boys. A soft knock on her office door signaled arrival. Ah well....please let this be a good one.

Liang whimpered quietly, standing outside the door. Her mother had sent her to go with Tea, but with the lemur's fear of needles, she was on her own. She had a note with the room she was supposed to go to, but even though she had matched the numbers up four time, she still wasn't sure it was right. And she would have hated to be wrong. That would be almost as bad as showing up late. Which she had already done once.

One minute...two, Madeline waited some more. Had she heard a knock? Or was it simply her imagination getting to her. No, she never let her mind run wild, then again maybe the stress of wondering weather or not she was going to have a good child or a bad child lay upon her so heavily that she was letting her nerves go haywire.

Ah! How ridiculous, if there was someone outside the door they should have come in by now and if not...how very rude! Never the less if there was someone out there it would be rude of Madeline not to let them in. "Come in, come in. " Said the teacher, click, clack, click heals bustled across the floor as she reached for the door knob and flung back the lock opening her office to the great hallway beyond.

For a moment she didn't see anyone. Huh, so it really just had been her imaginatio--a whimper. Madeline’s blue eyes darted down to catch a small terrified girl looking up at her. "Liang?" The fill in doctor mumbled rather quizzically. Ops, no that wasn't the right tone of voice to talk to such a scared child in. Quickly Madeline tried to cover up her mistake. "I'm sorry," Brightly she smiled as she offered Liang to step inside. Such a pretty little girl, this wouldn't be so bad.

The smile calmed her a little, but as Liang stepped inside, she was still shaking. She'd heard that shots hurt a lot, and that she had a high concentration of vessels in her wings. Did that mean they were going to put them there? She hopped not, that would hurt more than just her skin. With that thought in her mind, she pulled her wings together against her body, turning a curious eye to Madeline, "I didn't know there were girl doctors."

It was almost immediately Madeline took a like to the child, not just because of her looks, but it was also her quite demeanor. Awwh, the poor dear looked terrified too. It was so hard for Madeline not to quietly giggle at this, but she couldn't help it, children were adorable when it came to doctors visits. She supposed it was due to the fact that it was a new experience, and people often feared what they didn't know.

Leading her into he room, Madeline offered Liang a step stool to hop up onto the exam table. Busying herself with shot's Madeline lined up the series of needles and tubes. Gently she took Liang by the arm.

"What? You didn't know there were girl doctors?" Madeline frowned slightly at this statement. Girls these days...they just weren't being brought up right. Femminisim had taken a turn for the worse. Happily Madeline showered Liang with sweet looks, " There are lots of girl doctors out there. You always see guys in these kind of jobs, huh? Not true though. Woman work in lots of the same jobs and places that boys do, and we do just as well too." She paused for a moment, "If not better."

"Really?" Liang asked curiously, almost forgetting about her fear as she climbed up onto the table. She was a little relieved when the woman took her arm rather than her wing, and took a deep breath with her eyes closed, "I just always thought that girls were supposed to stay away from boy things." Her heart was starting to flutter, though that wasn't all too uncommon with her frame, and her cheeks heated up a bit. "How many shots do I have to get?" She added, nodding to the line of them on the table. It would have been easy to count them, but she didn't know whether she needed some or all of them. Hopefully not too too many.

Adjusting the tray just out of the child's vision, Madeline turned back around holding the first needel. Ah, now how to distract her. So far the conversation seemed to be doing a good enough job of keeping her attention. Using her left hand, Madeline raised Liang's chin a bit so that she could see eye to eye with the little girl.

"Only a few," The doctor slash teacher said in the nicest tone she could manage. "But if you look away while I give them you won't even notice." But on to more pressing matters--"Now where did you get such a silly idea in your head, hmmn? Girls can do anything they want to. What made you think they had to stay away from 'boy' things?"

In went the first needle quick as a wink while she talked, and then a second just three more to go.

Instead of just looking away, Liang closed her eyes, tensing up the muscles in her wings rather than her arms. At least it was only a few. That was what, three? She didn't feel the first two, the woman was a suitable distraction. "Well, my big brother gets to do a lot more than me, and in the old days girls stayed home to take care of their families. It was the polite thing to do. I don't want to be rude to anyone." What she really meant was that she wasn't sure why. Sure tradition said she should, but with what her mother and now this smart lady were saying, she was starting to think maybe tradition was wrong. Just this once.

There, done with all shots. Finishing up Madeline cheerily picked slipped into her pocket and pulled out a band aid. Removing her hand from the cloth pouch she saw not one, but two she held in her hand. Guilty she placed 'Barbie Band Aid' back into her pocket.

"Polite thing, hmn? The past is the past for a reason. All things change, including tradition." Peeling back the paper Madeline stuck the small piece of cloth over the sore little bump on Liang’s arm.

"I encourage you to try new things. Such a pretty little strong girl like yourself could do so many things. Maybe you'd be good as a firefighter," she pointed to the army of small printed vehicles up and down along the band aid. "Then again, perhaps a police woman or even a doctor like me." Pointing to herself she did her best to say everything as smooth as vanilla and honey.

"We're done for now though. Wasn't that painless? Off you go now, " The doctor shooed her off the table and out the door. "Come visit sometime if you would like. " The little girl was gone after that. Would she take Madeline’s' words to heart? The older woman certainly hoped so.
