New Rule 4/13/2007: From now on, you are no longer allowed to claim more than one spot.
1. If you already have a claim on a lower-priced spot and wish to claim a higher-priced spot, you will first need to cancel your lower-priced spot. For example, if you have a spot claimed for a Dark Halo, but want to claim a spot for a KiKi Kitty Plushie, you will have to cancel the Dark Halo claim completely or add it to your KiKi claim if the combined total still falls within the spot's price range.
2. If you have a higher-priced spot and want to exchange it for a lower-priced spot, you will first need to cancel the higher-priced item then claim the lower-priced spot.
3. If you already have an item locked, but wish to lock another item, you will either need to first pay off your locked item or add your remaining total on the locked item onto the price of the item you wish to lock to figure out what size spot you need to claim. You can also ask me to figure it out for you.
Cancelling and claiming can be done in the same post/pm.
Now for a few helpful recommendations when making locks:
1) When setting a max, DO NOT use whatever the current lowest price is in the Marketplace. I can almost guarantee you that it will be higher than that by the time your item is ready to be locked, and you will be removed from the list and placed in the Defunct Maxes list rather than being locked. Instead, carefully consider what the highest price you are willing to pay is, and use that as your max. This can be difficult I know, so if you find yourself at a loss, then at the very least follow this helpful little mini-guide.
For an item priced:
Under 150k: Add 20k to lowest marketplace price.
150k-500k: Add 50k-70k to lowest marketplace price.
500k-1mil: Add 100k-200k to lowest marketplace price.
1 Million+: Just don't bother with a max. It's a lot simpler that way.
2) KNOW YOUR FINANCIAL STATE. If you want to lock a Nitemare Scarf, but only average 200g a day, it's not going to happen. You will drown in interest. If you need help deciding if you can actually afford the item you want to lock, ask me.
3) DO NOT BLINDLY ASSUME YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. If there is something you are unsure about, ask me. If there is something you are sure about, ask me anyway. xd I don't want any confusion later when something happens differently then you thought it would.
4) NO BACKSEAT DRIVING. I really don't need advice on how to do my job here. xd I've been doing it for almost a year now and there have been no major casualties, so I can't be doing it too badly. If you have suggestions/ideas you are more than welcome to post them in the thread, or if you think I have made a mistake with your account I encourage you to bring it to my attention so I can fix it if necessary, but no criticizing, yelling, hovering, questioning my judgement calls (unless I've obviously gone over the bend), etc.
5) KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR GUILD THREADS. They are there to help you, not me. I can keep records a lot more easily offline than online, but we know at least some of you like to keep up with your latest totals and current daily interest.
6) KEEP YOUR PM'S OPEN. There are few things in this life more irritating than trying to contact someone about their lock who has Friend's Only PM's set, or has them turned off completely.
7) And another annoying one...CANCEL LOCKS YOU NO LONGER WANT. It happens far too often that I've A) Got locks sitting around collecting dust because people stopped wanting them but forget to notify us and B) Lock an item and send out a notification, only to receive a reply back that they no longer want the item and would like to cancel their lock. After I just locked it. Oh goody, more work for me.
8 ) DON'T JUST DISAPPEAR. A lot of people do that, and they end up forgetting they have locks or lock requests here. This is bad primarily for two reasons: 1. If you have an item locked and haven't made a payment/contact in over a month, your account could be closed. If you change your name and forget to mention it to us, you pretty much cease to exist for us since we have no way of contacting you, and your account will be closed., 2. You will be unprepared when your item is locked unless it is one you are actively questing for, in which case you will be pleasantly surprised. But otherwise, you'll suddenly have an unexpected drain on resources that you may have been saving for other things and will have bundles of fun figuring out how to juggle that.
9) Oh, I'm sure there's more, give me time.
