This is the official thread for this...
For those who don't already know, Steve Irwin was killed in tragic circumstances on Monday 4 September, 2006 in Batt Reef, Cairns, Australia. The legendary crocodile hunter was speared in the heart by the barb of a sting-ray at approx. 11:00am whilst filming an underwater special for his 8-year-old daughter, Bindi. His death was practically instant. His wife Terri and their two children were hiking in Tasmania when this occured and could only be notified late in the evening of his death. They've now been flown back to the hospital in Cairns to be with their husband/fathers body.
Despite first thoughts, this is not a joke or hoax.
I suppose everyone was lead to believe in some unrealistic way that he was untouchable and would always remain as one of our great Australian icons. Those of us who thought that were right in one way... He will always remain as our icon and one of the prominant faces of Australia. It doesn't matter what opinion some people had of him, there's no denying the positive impact he made on animal rights and treatment, as well as the amazing work he did with individual animals. His legacy will always carry on and his efforts will never be forgotten.
If you wish to post your own memorial to Steve, please post it here. Any other personal memorials are also welcome here...
