............................................Descriptions of Species
Wyvern A creature with two wings and two legs. Often the Wyvern is shown with claws on the wings and having a sharp tail tipped with poison. Wyverns are sometimes called "dragonets" in England because of how closely the resemble dragons. Wyverns typically live in caverns which are readily identified by bones and jewels sprawled about.
Sea Serpents Sea Serpents live only in water, fresh or salt, were once confused as being gigantic squid or huge masses of sea kelp.
Basilisk A basilisk is reproduced by its own kind, rather than a rooster laying an egg and it being incubated by a toad, like the cocatrice. This creature has no legs, instead it slithers about on the ground. With a red-scaled body (upper portion) and a crowned head, the basilisk is a strange sight. Deadly and cureless is the basilisk's poison and with just their gaze they turn things into stone. The only way to destroy a Basilisk is to trick it into looking at itself (through a mirror), thus turning itself into stone. There are, however, three things that are immune to its gaze and noxious breath.
Drake Drakes have legs and no wings. Fire-drakes, which breath fire and are a reddish color and Cold-drakes which breath snow (cold stuff) and are a light blue color are the two types of Drake. These dragons do not fly and their size ranges from 4'-40'.
Ashrays Known as Water Lovers or Asrais, these creatures are both male and female. Their bodies are very translucent, giving them the appearance that they are a sea ghost. They cannot live on land and are completely nocturnal. They can be found underwater.
Banshee Originally spelled bean si by the Irish, a banshee is the spirit of a beautiful maiden who died before her time. Banshee's wail, not screech, just before the death of someone. Banshee's have gray or green cloaks, eyes reddened from the weeping that they do and long streaming hair.
Boggart A boggart is a mischievous brownie. When a brownie is teased or misused it turns into the boggart. They are described as having long, sharp noses that have only two little nostrils.
Centaurs Centaurs and a hybrid. They have the upper torso of a human and the legs of a horse. In Greek mythology most were drunken followers of the god Dionysus. However some were kind and taught humans.
Dryad Also known as a tree nymph or tree spirit, these Celtic creatures are closely tried with trees. Unlike Hamadryadnik, Dryads can move their spirit from tree to tree. They can be playful or helpful, depending on their mood.
Elves In the olden days in Scandinavia faerie people were called elves. They were divided into light (liosalfar) and dark (svartalfar) elves. Dark elves have dark hair and black eyes while light elves have blonde hair and blue eyes. Generally tall and thin, these creatures have sharp delicate features (i.e. pointed ears). In legend the Scandinavian elves were said to fight on the side of the gods against the evil giants.
Goblins Goblins are evil and malicious spirits who love to frighten and hurt humans. These omnivores tend to be small, hideous, and avoid sunlight. These creatures live in gangs. Sometimes they are dressed in crude leather armor and carry with them primitive weapons such as spears. However they posses great strength and generally reside underground or in other uninhabited areas. Goblins do occasionally take up residence in human houses. The results are disastrous.
Hamadryadnik These creatures are a little more harmful than their "cousin" the Dryad. Looking like foliage, these creatures can easily disguise themselves from humans, whom they loathe. At night they are bound to the tops of their tree/home and can't leave because touching the earth at night will cause them to vanish forever.
Imp An imp is basically a goblin or bogies. They are little black things full of malice. "Impets" is another name for them.
Pixies Pixies are merry, mischievous faeries of Somerset. They appear the size of ordinary humans thought they are generally about the size of a human's hand. No matter the size, however, they always have red hair and up-turned noses. Their eyes always squinting and mouths wide open. The clothes upon their bodies are green.
Alicanto Spending its time searching for veins of silver and gold, this nocturnal creature cannot fly due to its diet.
Phoenix a vibrant red and gold bird. This sacred bird of Heliopolis resembles a heron. The phoenix lives on an obelisk outside of the sanctuary in Heliopolis where it is worshiped alongside the gods Ra and Osiris. Sometimes considered a manifestation of Osiris himself (sprang from Osiris' heart), this bird is said to have created itself in the fire at the top of the Persea tree. The phoenix symbolizes rebirth with its rise from the ashes.
Griffins The griffin has the head, fore legs, and wings of an eagle. The body and tail is that of a lion. Sometimes depicted with horns and huge ears, the griffin is a symbol of vigilance and strength. In Greek mythology griffins belonged to Zeus, king of the gods. The griffin is also known by the names Gryphon, Gitto, and Griffith.
Slyphs The Slyphs are small, winged creatures. They have vague human features and appear transparent. They are so light that they float in the air for long periods of time. While doing this they barely use their wings so it is believed that they may be vestigial.
Chimera the Chimera is a fire breathing creature that has the body of a goat, the head of a lion and the tail of a serpent. Some have said that the Chimera has three heads, but the popular myth tells of the single, fire-vomiting head.
Devil Whale When it is sleeping, or as part of a deliberate trick, the Devil-whale can be mistaken for an island by sailors, but if they land and start a fire, the whale will wake up, and attack the ship or drag it under the water. Sometimes these legends claim that the monster is a huge turtle.
Werewolf A person who changes into a wolf- generally werewolves are ravenous, wild, and difficult to kill
