The sun had set on the lands of the pride, though the small golden cub couldn't sleep. She was currently tangled in a large mound of lions - her father, mother, brother, grandmother, grandfather, and aunts and uncles included. She was tangled with her brother, and slowly pried herself apart from the group. Walking silently to the dens entrance, the small lioness sighed heavily. She was happy to be home and out of the desert, but she was lonely this night. She had wished the celebration of their return had lasted a bit longer, even though it had lasted late into the night. But the young girl wasn't tired yet, and she trotted out of the den, into the night that called to her.

Tui'lian padded into the night, her paws folding the grass beneath her. As she walked to the large rock she had seen her grndmother resting on earlier, she realized it was much larger than it had seemed at first. "Wow..." She muttered, and she tried to climb up onto the stone. Stumbling a few times, the determined little cub finally wrenched herself top the rock and smiled brghtly at her accomplishment. She was only about five feet off the ground, but to her it looked like a very long way down. She smiled and laid as her grandmother had - one forepaw over the other - watching the stars.

Phib had once scolded Jaden for being a bit too free with his feet and a little too absent minded to ever settle down in one particular area. It was odd to remember that on this particular night- for his uncle was right, Jaden never did settle. He walked with an endless optimism that there was always something better one mile away, and a mile after that- but, even with those thoughts, he was not a naive creature. He played the joker fool to a tee, but the private him knew a bit better. And it was starting to warn him that he had just crossed onto lion territory.

The rather large leopard paused for a long moment, the low moon casting an odd tint to his obnoxiously red coat. He liked lions, but there were strange varieties of them- and hopefully, his reputation had not spread to this particular region. As it was he preceded with caution, but was arrogently unable to change his path for sake of his own dedication to moving.

As the long creature strolled- he became faintly aware of a large stone in the distance. At first he thought it might have been some kind of small game animal resting upon it- but within a few feet, it became apparent that it was a small female cub. Unusual- her eyes seemed open, and hardly asleep.

“Well well!” His voice called pleasantly, and he slowly approached. He had the tone of a showman, and it was obvious he enjoyed his own voice. “What are you doing out here at night?”

The leopards scent reached her before his voice did. Tui's pale eyes followed the red creature, and she gulped loudly. I should've stayed in the den... From what she could tell from her very small memory, he was some kind of large cat, but definitely not a lion. She smiled meekly at him, pushing her head close to the rock and her ears closer. "I-I'm just l-looking at the s-s-stars..." She spoke softly, her tone more grown up than it seemed it should have been for one so young. She was trying to sound not as afraid as she was, but her body language and expressions gave away her fright.

Jaden quirked his brow as the female managed to articulate words out of her mouth which seemed adult like in fashion, all while slinking slowly downwards. It was an unusual effect- he couldn’t remember the last time he had scared someone- oh, no. Wait, he had scared someone recently. And if he counted that wild dog he had run into- well, he’d probably scared the last two people he’d encountered. Ironic, actually.

“Kinda late to be out looking at the sky.” he remarked, glancing upwards. “The stars are not going anywhere. Little girls should be asleep this time.”

The red creature stretched, his tongue curling against the roof of his mouth in the movement. “I doubt your parents would appreciate it.”

Tui watched the red creature, still a bit afraid of him, though ehr confidence grew every moment tht passed and he didn't attack her. He seemed friendly enough, but she made sure to stay on top of the rock, and glaned to the den where her fmaily slept. Hopefully if she called out for help they would hear.

"I-I'm old enough to come out b-by myself." She said, a bit of pride showing through her timid voice. "My family is r-right over there.. So I'm s-safe.." She said softly, watching him with wide eyes. As she spoke she got a bit braver, and lifted her head a little higher to get a better look at him. "Who're you..?"

Jaden blinked his wide eyes, and glanced to the side. “Oh?” He remarked. “If I had kids, I wouldn’t want them running around in the middle of the night.” The leopard’s sly voice spoke, and effortlessly, he hopped up onto the stone besides the cowering cub. He was a bit oblivious to fear- and although he had scared the last few people he’d met with, he was still rather convinced he was not a scary individual. Or so he hoped.

“My name is Jaden.” He spoke, the J rolling off his tongue with an ‘H’ sound. “And who are you, little thing?”

She staggered backwards as he jumped onto the rock beside her with ease. She was a bit awed by the simple feat, since she had struggled so badly getting up there herself.

"I'm Tui..." She said softly, still pushing her small body against the rock as much as she could, looking like she was trying to sink into it. Although, he hadn't eaten her yet, so maybe he wasn't that bad... "I couldn't sleep, so I came out to watch the stars." She said with a weak smile.

“Tui?” He questioned. Was it short for something? But it was an adorable name all the same. Had she been a bit older, he probably would have gone into great detail about it- but instead, he curled his tail and purred pleasantly. “That is a nice name.”

He’d never been a man for kids. If he had any of his own- he’d never heard of them. But he did have a kind of affection towards them all the same. There was something simple about them that he liked.

“The stars? Were they doing something unusual tonight?” He questioned honestly, and looked up. They seemed normal...

Tui smiled, her strength returning. He seemed very pleasant. "Yeah, I suppose it is a nice name..." She said with a small smile. As he asked about the stars, she looked up at tehm and giggled. "No, not really. I just love them. They seem very distant, and yet so close..." She said, wise words for such a small cub. "Don't you like them?"

“I don’t know.” Jaden remarked. “I never really looked at them before. They always seemed just like little lights in the sky, you know?” He blinked and watch them. “Maybe it’s because leopards have spots. We don’t tend to get too distracted by other spotted things.” Although even he had to admit, they were bright out tonight.

“My uncle- he’s a lion, you know- he sometimes gazes of like a senile at the stars. But I don’t know if he’s actually looking at them, or if his brain shut down.” He chuckled.

Tui laughed along with him, easily picturing that sight in her mind. She sat up a bit higher, getting more comfortable around this leopard. "Your uncle is a lion?" She asked, tilting her head to the side. "How does that work? Are you adopted?" She said, seemingly nosy, though really just curious.

Jaden laughed the question off pleasantly, flattening his ears. “Yeah- I was. Not like I think I’m a lion or anything; but they took me in when my mother gave us the boots. They’re really the only family I have.” It might have been a depressing statement, but it said it with a grin that would have done a Cheshire proud. “I annoy the hell out of them.”

“But- they’re good fellows. But you?” He questioned. “Happily settled with your parents, yes?”

Tui smiled as she heard him swear, and couldn't help but giggle a bit. Her parents never allowed her or her brother to do that. "Yes, I live with my mom, dad and my brother. And my grandmother, and my grandfather, and my three aunts and three uncles, and my great aunt and uncle and my cousins." She said with a grin. "We got back from the desert not long ago." She said with a nod, " scary lion led us here, and then my dad told me all about our new fmily. Before it was just me, my mom and my brother and dad." She grinned again, her sudden outburst of talk contradicting to her prior shyness.

Jaden furrowed his brow. “That’s a lot of family! I’ve only got my mum, and my aunt and uncle. Although I’ve been hoping they’ll spawn little midgets so I can have some cousins, eh?” It didn’t seem like that was going to happen any time soon, but he did drop hints about it to them. A lot, actually.

“It’s good to have a big family. But- ah. Desert is not such a good place to be. Why were you there?”

Tui shrugged a little as he asked. "I'm not sure. My daddy says he'll tell me when I'm older." She said with a sigh. "Being little isn't that great. I wish I were bigger." She said, looking back up to him. "Do you have any babies?" She asked with a smile and a tail flick.
