Why I like Naruto x Hinata.

Honestly, I didn’t give a damn about Naruto pairings at the beginning. The only pairing I shipped was NaruSaku because I thought it was the obvious pairing and I loved Naruto and supported what he wanted. I didn’t pay attention to a lot of the characters besides Team 7. Whenever I did see Hinata, I knew she had a crush on Naruto and I thought that was sweet but I didn’t care whether Naruto returned her feelings or not. That and I pretty much was rooting for Naruto and Sakura to get together. When I actually started to like NaruHina was during the chuunin exams.

During the Naruto vs Kiba fight, when Hinata was saying that unlike herself, Naruto had more self-confidence and believed in himself I thought about her ‘theme’ that was to change herself. What I love about NaruHina is that Naruto pushes Hinata forward even though he doesn’t notice her or how much he influences her. I believe that Naruto is Hinata’s light that guides her and because of him she will one day become the person she has always wanted to become and will be able to confront Naruto about her feelings for him. After the match, I found myself beginning to ship NaruHina more and more and because Hinata wasn’t shown that often, every scene she did appear in it was most likely important for her character development.

Still, I continued to be a NaruSaku shipper who didn’t mind the idea of NaruHina. Around this time from what I can remember, Ino was my favourite kunoichi but when Hinata fought Neji, all I can say was I thought Hinata was amazing. Sure, she lost the match but in terms of how willing she was to change herself in her own way. But why did she even end up fighting at all? Because Naruto had encouraged her to because he related to her being called a dropout just as Hinata had related to his pain of seeking acknowledgement. I think these two have a bond, although not as strong as the bonds between Team 7 it creates a base for the NaruHina pairing, somewhere where it starts. There is room for development and I think Naruto and Hinata have a relationship that can be developed beautifully and that could possibly turn into romance.

After the Neji vs Hinata fight and all my thoughts on how NaruHina fitted nicely, I still continued to ship SasuNaru. Damn. I forgot to say somewhere in the middle that I converted to SasuNaru. Anyway, NaruSaku still held the place as my favourite het pairing. I seriously don’t know what the hell I was thinking back then, I knew that I liked the concept and the idea of NaruHina more but I shipped NaruSaku for silly reasons such as I wanted Naruto to succeed in his ‘goal’ if you want to call it that, for Sakura’s love. A bit later though, I think I became a hardcore SasuSaku shipper and when I came to NarutoForums I saw how utterly popular NaruHina was and thought that was quite understandable but I later started to lurk around threads related to NaruHina because I sometimes questioned why it was probably the most loved pairing there.

Reading NaruHina-er’s reasons for supporting the pairing and re-watching scenes carefully that included Hinata, I think it was then that I began to ship NaruHina over NaruSaku (which I started to dislike). I think it’s safe for me to say I don’t ship NaruHina for ‘cute-ness’ because if that was the case, I would have shipped it from the start. I like NaruHina because of its potential for a relationship between the two and because I think Kishi has set it up nicely in the manga since he hasn’t forgotten Hinata’s feelings whether you think its romantic or just admiration. The fact that she still has some sort of feelings for him and that she’s still nervous around him (I wonder why? >D) means that Kishi has kept Hinata’s feelings for a reason. Just because she still faints around Naruto, doesn’t mean she hasn’t developed as a character, I think it means that something still needs to be settled between Naruto and Hinata which leads me to believe NaruHina has a big possibility.

I understand that even if Naruto finds out about Hinata’s feelings, who’s to say he’ll return them? I think Naruto is capable of loving Hinata back because of “I like people like you” line. There’s nothing necessarily romantic about that line but it tells me that Naruto is capable of loving Hinata because of the person she is and not because he can’t get Sakura. It’s just that Kishi has developed NaruHina from Naruto thinking she’s a weird and dark person to Naruto respecting Hinata while Hinata is slowly changing herself because she was inspired by Naruto. They balance each other out perfectly in my opinion. The “opposites attract” and “Like Night and Day” fit NaruHina.

And if Naruto and Hinata were to get together, people claim that Hinata would do nothing but agree with Naruto and never do much. That’s not the case in my opinion, I think Hinata will gain confidence to confront Naruto and confess so she won’t be stuttering around him and she will begin to feel more comfortable around Naruto. When Naruto told Hinata that he only acted tough around people and he wasn’t really that strong like Hinata thought, Hinata told him that wasn’t true and that Naruto made mistakes and learned from them which made him strong and that is what she thought, she wasn’t agreeing with Naruto at all but telling him what she thought and by doing so it gave Naruto more confidence to face Neji in the main matches.

All of that put together makes me love Naruto and Hinata’s relationship. Naruto has a bright and loud personality while Hinata is calm. There has been development between these two despite what others have said and I believe this pairing is indeed ‘patient’ because Hinata is slowly but surely developing into the person she wanted to become and will be able to confront Naruto but right now from what we have seen, she is not ‘ready’ to do that. I therefore think Kishi has plans for these two.

A very well written essay. The way I see it Naruto will fall in love with Hinata and Sakura will start to feel for Naruto but it will be too late, and she will see that she wasted her affections on Sasuke, who only wants revenge.

I meant it as it can happen I didn't say it would happen, You always have to keep your mind open to all possible ideas.

Great essay Cherrihan! You put in alot of good key points and it was well writen. In my opinion I think they would make the best couple in the whole series because it would be both sweet and heart wrench too. I found myself nodding alot with some the points you mention.

That is after I re-write it. This was more of a rant because I was pissed at people saying NaruHina has no base, no evidence, no development and I simply ranted everything out into this sort of half-essay.
