The candleshop was small and filled with all sorts of scents, and to Guinevere it was a sort of paradise. Nothing was more mystical than a proper dribbly candle and some of these were smelly, the good sort of smelly. Kotatsu had finally come to town again and THIS time Guinevere could explore it properly. Could. She might just spend all day here. There was a little old man behind the counter looking at her benignly as she wandered through the shop, eyeing everything interestedly. She didn't know what to spend the small amount of money Kotatsu gave her on but she wanted to spend it here. The old man had shown here how you lit a candle while Kotatsu fretted about playing with fire and now Guinevere wanted to buy a candle of her own, even if Kotatsu would have to light and watch it for her. She had seen a lot of them but wanted the perfect, most mystical, most magical one. This might be a problem, for the shop was full of candles with mystic potential. Guinevere inteded to look at all of them and might keep Kotatsu here all day long.

Elf and Mackerel were together, running errands. The child's hand was in the woman's hand, for she kept skittering off. Her other hand was occupied with the bags of food. With a huge sigh, Elf asked pathetically, "Do you think we could go h-"
There was a tearing sound, and then food fell out of the bag quite comically. Elf swore, and let go of Mackerel's hand to deal with it.
Mackerel was humming to herself. When her hand was free.... she shot off with a flash of green glow. Her giggling could be heard.
"Noo..." Elf whined, but her protests were lost... and the object of her protests was gone.
Mackerel turned a corner and opened the door to the nearest shop. Immediately, scents assailed her nostrils. She didn't look around, but stuck her little nose to the glass and looked around to see if Elf was around. The woman wasn't, so the girl giggled happily.

Guinevere looked up as someone else entered the store, blue eyes narrowing at the fact someone could disrupt the silence and peace of this place with a giggle. What she saw was a winged girl like herself, only with white hair and some sort of glowing green stuff. She decided to ignore her. Unfortunately for Guinevere, though, Kotatsu had other plans.
Kotatsu looked up at the little girl and was immediately reminded of Guinevere. It was probably the wings that did it, you didn't see those very often. But in this town, Kotatsu thought, recalling Kemuri and Lind, maybe you did. She went over to the little girl anyway. "Hello. I'm Kotatsu and Guinevere is over there behind a pile of candles. Who are you?"
Guinevere rolled her eyes. Kotatsu says not to talk to strangers and then goes off and introduces herself to one. Typical of the scatterbrained guardian.

Mackerel looked up at Kotatsu with a jump, where did she come from? Was she caught? The child stared with wide eyes. She looked from Kotatsu and Guinevere and then back, visibly relaxing. "I'm Mackerel... you won't tell Elf where I'm hiding?"
The girl looked around, trying to orientate herself. She was ina candle store? Mackerel looked awed and moved into the shop past Kotatsu. She reached up from her small height and picked a random mystical candle.

Kotatsu nodded. "We won't." Who was Elf? The name sounded vaguely familiar but Kotatsu couldn't remember where she had heard it. It could just have been at Christmas. Wherever she had heard it, if this girl felt like she ought to hide from an elf then Kotatsu would keep her secret from any passing by.
Guinevere walked over to Mackerel, in an attempt to broadly hint that that candle, though it didn't have her name on it, was a candle she MIGHT want in the immediate future. She did this in the subtlest way she knew how. "I like that candle." proclaimed the girl in her soft but firm voice.

Mackerel's little fingers skimmed just the edge of the candle. She couldn't get a grip on it, the thing was just too wide. But the little child was determined. Her toes and fingers strained, her face was tight, and the hint of her glowing wings shown brighter. Right when it seemed she would have it, the candle tilted and crashed to the surface!
The girl was spent, she fell back to her feet. Her face was torn, and her eyes watered. "I'm... I'm sorry....!"

Kotatsu gave a little gasp and went over to pick up the candle, definitley not fit for selling anymore. "Oh, that's okay!" She went over to pay the shopkeeper for it, not wanting a child to get in trouble. "I'm clumsy too sometimes." she said in a cheerfully embarrassed voice, trying to make the situation better for Mackerel. "Anyway, candles are very slippery."
Guinevere stared at the candle, nearly as upset as Mackerel. She sniffed once or twice and wiped her eyes, which were tearing slightly. THat was a LOVELY candle and in ONE move, this- this PERSON had broken it irreparably! She looked at Kotatsu scornfully, her treasonus talk filed in the young Herald's mind as aiding and abetting the enemy, or at least trying to tell them what they did was okay. "Kotatsu is VERY clumsy." she said icily, trying to make the guardian feel guilty instead of Mackerel, since she had been taught that was rude and anyway, she didn't feel brave enough to admonish a stranger. Someone as familiar as Kotatsu, though, was easy prey.
