Of course, in my opinion they are SO because they formed in 1983 & had many "classic" hits. But recently i've been hearing a lot of people, lots of them classic rock junkies, saying that they aren't classic rock!! Grr! scream That gets me frustrated. But seeing since this is a Bon Jovi guild, what are your guy's opinions on this?

I never really thought of them as classic rock either. Don't really know why. I guess cause they're still on the top of the charts today....I dunno.

I always did think of them as classic rock, but I did start listening to the old stuff first. If you asked me what was on the charts today I wouldn't be able to name a single song. I got into most of the bands I like because my dad collects records and I've heard so much stuff from the 70's and 80's over the years.
All the classic rock threads seem to have a rigid set of rules for defining classic rock, but I always just thought if it was old, it must be classic rock.

Bon Jovi isn't Classic Rock.
Their genre is dicussed and debated upon 1 of 2 possibilites.
1. Hair Metal
2. Arena Rock
I am one who believes they are Arena Rock...they started Hair Metal...or at least was a large contributer of it's formation. I guess I think they are both genres. However, Classic Rock as a genre or category, it is not a adjective in this form. Just because a song is a classic or it's a classic hit...the song itself or the band itself is not then considered a Classic Rock or whatever genre they are in, group. Classic Rock is Bruce Springstein, The Rolling Stones, etc.

It is true, they made a very VERY smooth transition from classic, 80's rock, into New Rock, and in the case of their Bounce album, they even started to lean into Hard Rock. Having said that, the transition was really hard to notice, because they are... well they are just good at what they do razz But listen to say, Without Love from the Slippery When Wet album. And then listen to Undivided from their Bounce alum, there is a difference smile It isn't a bad thing.

I hate it when people think of Bon Jovi as "hair spray music".
Pisses me off.
But I have thought of them as Arena Rock from time to time.
In my opinion, though, they're classic rock.

I grew up being taught it was classic rock so that's how I see it. I also believe that they have been in different genres from time to time.

I've never thought about to be honest... I suppose because they are still in the charts these days you don't really think of the as classic rock...
I dunno though...

Long_Away I've never thought about to be honest... I suppose because they are still in the charts these days you don't really think of the as classic rock... I dunno though... I've thought of that too but alot of bands from the "classic rock" are still making music. Ozzy just released a new album, along with Tom Petty & Eric clapton. Alot of the older artists. 3nodding
