Dassan's Lair
What can be found in the lair of the Death Dragon? Only those bold enough to search may know
Dassan's Lair is no easy place to find, as would be expected of an evil dragon who does not want his wealths discovered. You must go all the way to the exact center of the Shadowdome (excluding the arena grounds, of course) and then search for a secret panel that will reveal a hidden staircase. This staircase, like so many before it, is made of bone, but instead of a wooden handrail, something that looks strangely like rope made of Drake hair substitues for the handrail.
It spirals upwards like the iron staircases of old and the air gets darker and danker with each upward step. Finally, a single purple flame begins to light up your surroundings and you find yourself in a large, black chamber.
To your immediate right is a cauldron over a low, steady fire. It contains a sick-looking green potion that bubbles with tension; it looks almost like acid. There is a fireplace in his room, on the wall off to your left, but it is blocked by a few baskets, the contents of which are ominous enough to possibly be left unsearched. A large bookshelf takes up part of the back wall of the room. Very few books are actually on the shelves, but the ones that are are encased in black leather and have acid imbedded in the cover; no one but Dassan will be reading these.
Instead, bottles of many different things are found on these shelves. One shelf is almost entirely dedicated to rows of jars with a sickly liquid and a single ball in each. If you look closely, there is an eye in each jar. Upon even closer inspection, you may find that each jar is labeled with a name; one eye from every victim he has killed.
On the shelf below, there are other parts of the victims . . . a lock of hair in the case of a beautiful female, or, in the case of a dragon, a tooth or claw. They are kept for potion making or casting of some sort. The number of victims is almost countless.
The bed is by far the masterpiece of the room. It is carved exquisitely out of dark walnut. Gargoyles are carved into the four posters that rise to the ceiling, guarding the bed from any unwelcome visitors. An eye is carved into the top of each of the four posts, as if to give the sentiment of always being watched. Sheer black cloth hangs from circlets around the four-poster bed, encasing the bed in an eerie darkness that wavers with the slightest breeze. Candle holders are present all along the walls and are lit with the now familiar purple flame, the origins of which are best to be left undiscovered. They cast strange shadows on the bed, and dance over the headboard. The headboard itself depicts a mural, all carved into wood. Dassan is present, but around him are hordes of slayed creatures, dragons, Drakes, and humans alike. There is a small river of blood, and he is depicted flying from the scene, leaving the corpses to rot.
There are other mysterious places that can be inspected, perhaps under the bed, the fireplace itself, the mantle, the bedside table . . . so many places in this dark and evil room . . . so many surprises . . . so many ways for the Death Dragon himself to catch you in his own lair . . .
