Have you ever cosplayed Deidara?
Do you one day hope to do so?
Planning a cosplay for an upcoming con?
Well, this thread is for Deidara cosplayers! The newbs, the pros, the observers, the link-givers, please, post here!
Any tips, tricks or hints old Deidara-cosplaying-pros can give us would be appreciated mightily!
If you've got questions, someone probably has answers, but you'll never know if you don't ask!
And every random bit of advice helps!

Hey, wassap? razz Yeah, I'm a newbie, and so glad to be here!
Okay, my story: I'm planning on going to Anime USA, a con located in Vienna, VA. On Friday, I plan on going as Deidara, then SnJ (Sexy no Jutsu) Deidara on Saturday for the Naruto cosplayer photoshoot! heart
So, for those of you who've already cosplayed as Deidara, how did you pull off the following:
1. His hitai-ate (I've heard using an aluminum plate, fabric, rivets, and snaps works. How'd you do it?)
2. His "hawkeye" (That's the name I've heard for it, at least)

Hmmmm. For the hitai-ate, my dad's going to use aluminum, or something along those lines, and do a bunch of things to it, in a process I don't really understand. O_<
Which offers, like, zero help, so my bad.
Plus, my dad's basically Oober-Handy-Man, so that's not much help either.
I've heard of people ordering them custom made online by people who do that sort of thing.
I'm cheating and skipping the little scope thing. >.> <.<
Now that I think about it, dad hasn't done any work on it, yet. he hasn't even taken it in to work! Hey, dad! -walks off to annoy said father-

I've cosplayed as Deidara a few times and will be going to Metrocon: Amano's World on Day 1 as him.
Hitai-ate: I made mine out of an aluminum toaster plate thing. One of those things you put toasty cakes on or something.
Scope: I made mine out of an egg carton. Yes, it sounds weird, but it worked well.
Just for the hell of it, I'm bringing my own clay and making a bird in the car on the way there (3-hour drive).
But I'm sorry to say that unlike a previous cosplay, I will not be cosplaying on day 2 as Deidei. I actually have to cut my hair in the hotel room so I can go as Larxene on day 2.

But, I have a question. How did you get the village symbol, and the slashing over it, onto the metal? Did you scratch it in, draw it on, paint it, draw it on another piece of paper and tape it on.. what? That part of making the headband has been confusing me sooooo much!! If you can, please help!

..I'm going to get shot for this, but....
Buy your headband. Seriously. They are REALLY hard to make on your own, with them looking good and NOT risking falling apart.. I got my sound ninja headband from morlockenterprises.com It is an amazingly good quality accessory. I wear it all the time. I'm pretty sure they have a stone headband too. Now, you'd have to cut the mark yourself, which would be wear it got tricky. But, if you e-mailed them, you could probably see if they could make a stone headband with a slice through it, like their Itachi band.
If someone doesn't want to use their own hair for a Deidara costume..I'm cosplaying him sometime, so if I EVER get started on the wig, I'll see if I can get a tutorial going. Deidara's hair is hard if you want to get it right, because his hair is kinda thick, and his topknot also has a lot of hair, meaning wefts and extentions are needed and..its some complicated crap, I'm thinking.
Edit:..Okay, they don't have a stone headband. Hm. Dx

Well, I talked with a guy fom that Morlock Enterprises when I was at AnimeNext. I didn't have enough money to buy a headband that my sis wanted, but said I'd like info on ordering it for her, and asked if they had the Rock Village one. The guy gave me a card, told me to e-mail them, and said I could get it special ordered- that they don't normally make it, but they could 'put it on the end of an order'.
Well, I've sent them 10 e-mails since June, first asking about comissioning both the headband and eyepiece, then after I got fed up, just the headband. Still got no reply. So I don't know... Which e-mail address of theirs did you use? They have quite a few, maybe I haven't tried every single one like I thought. But yeah, I wanted it made by professionals!! *sob*

And another problem: the Sei ring.

I am having next to NO luck finding anything vageuly resembling it. I mean, I know I'll probably have to have the character into the stone myself, but I can't even find a decet ring! =O
Heck, I can't even find a decent blank setting! >=O

Well, we couldn't find one either.
They only sell Itachi's ring, and the style of ring that Akatsuki has isn't exactly common, even in a jewelry store- I know, I've looked.
At first, I was going to buy the Itachi ring they sell on E-bay, then just put blue-green background and the symbol Dei has over the red and Itachi's symbol.. hadn't decided how to do that though. But who knows if those rings will fit right, ya know?
So, my sis and I walked 5 miles to the craft store, and bought some off-white colored 'Sculpey'. Supposedly, though I'd never heard of it before some nice peeps on cosplay(and I think PhilsophicalCheese too) told me about it, it's sold in like every craft store, and it comes in every color imaginable. My sister sculpted two rings for me out of it(in case one breaks), then carved the symbol into the round piece she put on top with a sharp end of a scissor. After that, we baked it, and I carefully painted it with blue-green acrylic paint, then put in the black for the symbol with ultra-fine Sharpy.
Really low-tech, I know, but it was wayyyyy more fun for us to make it ourselves, and much cheaper too!

I have to make two Akatsuki rings...well, wait, no. -thinks for a minute- I have to make five, maybe six. Zetsu's, Kakuzu's, Tobi/Sasori's, Hidan's, the leader(maybe), and the unknown/supposed female member(I WILL cosplay them, no matter WHO it is. >__<; )
I'm only getting paid for one of them, at that. Oh well...x3
About the morlockenterprises....I'd have to ask my friend. He e-mailed them about some sort of headband, I don't remember what. I've never e-mailed them. You might be able to find a stone headband on Ebay..I think I saw one before. You'd have to carve the slice in yourself though.
