Share your favourite artists and why you like them and what sort of art do they do, be it fine art, japanese, cultural or whatever smile
Mine are: Jackson Pollock (Abstract expressionist) - I love his work, having studied him for a Fine Art course, because of the vigour and zeal that goes into his work. His paintings reflect the frantic, energetic movements that he uses when painting, and it creates a lively mood. Plus painting in his style is SO much fun blaugh Art should be enjoyable, and his paintings are enjoyable to look at as well as create. 3nodding
Rene Magritte (Surrealist) - I love the tricks on the eye that his paintings play on you when you look at them; they're realistic yet..not. I love his combinations, such as the man whose head is made of light ("The Pleasure Principle", or the man with an apple for a face ("The Son of Man").
Salvador Dali (Surrealist) - To me he is the best surrealist. I love his paintings because they contain a very realistic appearance yet they are painted totally from within his mind, and it amazes me how he can paint an everyday item in a weird shape or create something new from it.
Wassily Kandinsky (Abstract) - I like his paintings because I love the way he's made scenes into shapes, totally abstracted them until you can't really tell what they are anymore. I love the compositions and how the shapes correspond with one another, because I think it's also hard to acheive.

hmmm....let's see... MC Escher is definately up there. surrealism, right? i always get those fuzzy genres mixed up (surrealism, abstract, psychadelic, you know, those that aren't straight forward). i just really love how he worked with greyscale and really brought it to life, even though it wasnt realism. if we were talking about genres of literature, Escher would definately be in the speculative fiction section. i'm all about "what ifs" and craziness. Claude Monet (impressionism) he just had a way of manipulating color and form to be close enough to realistic one could tell it wasn't just a blob of paint (a problem i have with many impressionists), but still preserved the forms in their raw entirety. Ursula Vernon - (fantasy) she is a modern artist. Ursula comes up with spectacular ideas and pulls them off with a certain smoothness that just really grabs my attention. She has an elfwood page, too. and jen beirola (abstract) she's not a professional artist, i dont think, but she's awesome. you can find her artwork here she works with pastels and acrylic with such a flow and attention to value...it blows my mind. endlessdark, i love salvador dali. just...awesome.

Ummm.. Well, let me see: Out of the "classical" artists: Da Vinci and Michaelangelo. Even though they were utter rivals. xd
More recent artists: Gene Franks, Jim Hardin (local watercolor artist who is awesomely good. I've looked him up, though and he doesn't have much that's published via internet crying )
Manga: Kosuke Fujishima, Watsuki Nobuhiro, and Yu Watase
Digital: jiuge, ox-of-ice, tobiee, zeiva (all of whom are on DA)
Other: Moermaru (who is also on DA and has gotten me interested in woodburning art biggrin )

woodburning is basically where you take a woodburning tool (a very hot metal thing with a handle) and burn cool designs into planks of wood. (right?)

It was $175 for shipping and all. That's really cheap cause the dollar's so low. biggrin And it looks even better IRL.
Oh my favorite manga artist is Ray Omishi. He did Sorcerer hunters, the art and the story is just great and funny.

chemiechan: with the page stretched out, i saw the painting before i saw who made the post and i was like "OMG, THERE'S A FREAKING AWSOME PAINTING OF CHEMIECHAN!!!"
