According to Brian at the Q&A at the book signing the artist who painted this beautiful picture had never read or seen Dune. So when he painted this picture it came out looking like a sceen from Moby d**k instead of Dune. So they altered the ending of Dune alittle bit because of the picture. What I don't get is this; Earlyer in the Q&A Brian said that the part that the Lynch film totaly screwed up was the ending sceen where he had it rain. He said that would ruin the eniter ecology of Dune. So one can only admagine what this amount of water would do.

Drayakir Okay, it's official. I want for Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson to get AIDS and die. Dude chill out. You never know how it will actualy end. Also you should let one finish posting before jumping to clames like that. It wasn't Brian and Kevin's doing. It was the artist that had no clue about Dune.

well in later series such as chapterhouse dune. The surface of arrakis has changed to grass and rain. the old dune and desert is dying as are the old fremen and worms. so that book might be right after chapterhouse.

Honestly? With the screw-ups BH and KA already did, I wouldn't put it past them to write something along the lines of..>
-Scytale grinned with his feverish Tleilaxa smile. "Your witch worms are a thing of the past! I do the true work of the Prophet!" With that, he gestured to the large chmaber filled with murkish green water. He rubbed his hands, as the smile faded, and turned into an ugly, malicious grin. "We Tleilaxa always suspected of the way you witches keep memories of each other inside you. Let me speak to Ordrade." Sheeana gulped, and nodded. The Tleilaxu master continued "Remember, Reverend Mother, when you showed me the worms you grew on Chapterhouse? When you thought that all my cards were up? Well, now it's my turn." He walked over to the wall, and flicked a switch. Several projectors came on, and a shrill whistle, sounding like the one Scytale killed Idaho with, blared throughout the no-palace. And out of the depths, a creature so familiar to Sheena rose up, and crashed through the surface, like the Leviathan of the Old Bible. "A sandworm!" Miles Teg exclaimed. Scytale barked a short laugh. "A water worm, actually." -
I would so not put it past them to pull something like that. And then, different breeds of worms that can live on any planet.

Well I haven't read Herritics or Chapterhouse. Those are only ones I don't have. Sandworms and Hunters are the same book but they were split into 2 because of leanth Aproxementaly 1400 pages long together. This book is commenly refered to as Dune 7. Frank Herbert actualy wrote the majority of the book in note form. Brian and Kevin just followed his notes for the majority of it.

That is a true statement. This might not be Arrakis or it could be. Wel'll find out everything when it comes out. Mind the old saying, "Never judge a book by its cover."

One last thing for you nay sayers. No one could or can write the Dune series as well as Frank Herbert. This was his last work. It was still in progress when he died. No Brian might not be able to write the series as well as his father but you should be greatful that he picked up where his father left off. Without Brian Dune would not have its ending nor would we have been able to see what happened in the great war with the thinking machines finaly and have everything finaly explained to us.

No. He messed it up. There were three independent machines: Erasmus, Omnius, and Seurat. Several others were mentioned, but not by name. And the whole point that the Orange Catholic Bible referred to was that the machines were like men. Not because of Omnius who was A thinking machine (singular), but the fact that the thinking machines- there were many of them.
And they have always missed the point of the original. Dune wasn't science fiction. It was a philosophy treatise on the neccessity of evil when controlling people in any shape way or form, not lasguns and cyborgs. Why do you think FH didn't accent so much on technology?

Well I do agree with you on this point. But remember the Legonds of Dune series needed to be more Sci-fi for the fact of what they were about. Also remember Kevin is a sci-fi writer who loves to blow up worlds. Like I said no one can write as well as the original creator. You have to give room for the different styles of peoples writings. I think you are missing the point I am trying to make.

I'm not missing the point. I see and understand what you're saying... but there's a reason why all continuations of a great author suck. What they did was write fanfiction. The best person to continue Dune would've been a philsopher, not a science fiction writer.

I've not been able to bring myself to read their works yet. I'll admit it freely. I personally want to read the origonals six or seven more times through before I venture off into theirs.
Hopefully that is a picture of them slaying the worms by drowning them. Perhaps creating massive ammounts of Spice Essence?
