For the past few weeks I've been making an attempt to avoid caffeine completely. I'm quite addicted to it, I suppose, as I used to drink a lot of coffee and tea. Since quitting I very often feel like I really need to sleep in much more than before and get some symptoms of low blood pressure (guess I should drink a lot of water now). Has anyone done this while turning vegan (or any other opportunity), and had similar difficulties? How long did it take you to adjust?

Hehe, I totally agree, it IS evil!
I quit comsuming caffeine over a year ago, around Easter. I remember when because I had to skip the family Easter dinner because I had a HORRIBLE headache. Before I quit, I would routinely drink about two cups of coffee in the morning, a 20oz bottle of Pepsi or Mountain Dew in the afternoon, and another Pepsi or caffeine-laden drink in the evening. I decided to quit cold turkey, and drink nothing but water. Oh my God, like I said before, I experienced the worst headache I had ever had. No pain killers would make it cease. After a couple days, it eased, and I found myself to feel very tired more often than normal. A few weeks after adjusting to that, it's amazing how much better I felt. I don't urinate near as much as I used to, I have about the same amount of energy, I have less bad moods and am more optimistic, and whereas I used to wake up around 10:30-11-12 when I slept in, I find myself awake and refreshed at about 8:30.
You never realize how bad it is for you until you get it all out of your system. Once you do, however, and decide to go back, go back in moderation, as you'll find your sensitivity to caffiene is very much heightened. Looks like it's been a while since you posted; how is it going for you so far?

Caffeine is not evil. Addiction and temptation is lol. I love my caffeine and sugar. Everything is good in moderation. I have to tell myself that daily though. lol

Just because you asked and I do not know, I will find out. I know caffiene is found naturally in certain foods like tea, coffee, and cocoa. But as to where they get the caffiene from in soda, I do not know.

There are tons of sites on caffiene. I got this answer from here. Quote: Caffeine was first isolated from coffee in 1819. It is also found in tea; in cacao pods, and hence in cocoa and chocolate products; in kola nuts, used in the preparation of cola drinks; in the ilex plant, from whose leaves the popular South American beverage yerba mate is prepared; and in guarana seeds, an ingredient in some soft drinks. I knew as much that the cola bean was used to make sodas at some point but I did not think they still did. I have had cola made with cola nuts once before but never found the soda again. Anyway, I hope you like your answer; it was fun reading about it.

Around the time I went veg*n, I also gave up most of my food vices (potato chips, chocolate bars and other fatty desserts, sodas and other packaged drinks), and started replacing most of my drinks with water or occasionally fruit juice. This worked out well, I had energy, and my acne went way down.....
... Then I went to college. I picked up the soda and packaged-drinks habbit just 'cause I need that caffiene kick to get through boring lectures and long study nights (And Arazona RX Stress and Energy drinks are some good stuff!). At first, soda made me sooooo hyper I couldn't drink more than a little bit. I think I've got my tollerance back now. Maybe one day I'll give it up again...

I drink a lot of tea. XD I don't think I'm addicted to caffeine but I am more tolerant of it at times. When I go on vacation, out of state, I don't drink as much tea, and don't get withdrawls or even notice. But when I come back and drink some tea again, I get more of a reaction to it then I was getting previously (a little shakey, mostly).
Pop and coffee have too much caffeine for me. Oh, and once I took exedrin migraine with caffeine and the straight concentrated caffeine made me SOOOOOO sick. Ugh. :/

I used to be totally caffene-free: herbal teas like peppermint and chamomile all the way!
About a year ago I was getting really disturbing nightmares and I was scared to go to sleep. I started drinking black coffee to keep me awake dispite hating the taste - now I'm totally hooked on it stressed
I drink about six or seven mugs of coffee a day usually. I do know it's not healthy but I actually like the taste now and I feel like s**t without it!

I've read from several sources that 2 cups of coffee per day are actually healthy and can prevent cancer and heart diseases.
If you do want to quit, however, I'd suggest drinking green tea instead for a while, and then when you're comfortable with that, switch to caffeine-free herbal tea. It should be less of a shock to your system that way, since green tea still gives you caffeine, but without the extreme rush you get from coffee.

all i have to say is DO NOT take away huge quantities of caffeine at a time, you will suffer things greater than some headache, you will be VERY irritable too
happened to me when i had to skip my coffee in the morning thanks to swimming practice
