Somewhere in the Scorpio constallation, revolving around the star Antares ((don't tell me that this is impossible or some other astronomy stuff that would denounce this, it is a fantasy story )), there is another planet unknown to most of the universe. This planet ((for lack of a name, help!!!)) is home to the saijin, the elemental guardians ((I looked up somewhere that saijin meant guardian deity in Japanese, if I'm wrong please tell me )). The saijin are the souls of those who were strongly connected to a certain element. There are twelve known saijin: water, fire, wind, thunder, earth, mist, ice, battle, time, dark, light, and soul. Legend speaks of a thirteenth, but no one believes that there actually is one, for if it did exist then it would have shown itself. Everything in the universe is connected to a saijin. If a saijin is destroyed, then everything connected to that saijin will die along with it. Luckily, only a released soul can kill another released soul. Though every living thing has a soul, many never release their soul. This is what keeps the saijin alive.
Though the saijin know the consequences of their deaths or the deaths of other saijin, the elemental balance is not stable. The saijin constantly battle each other, trying to be more and more powerful. The soul saijin, Daiya, has always been the most powerful, for all the saijin are souls themselves. Nephilim, the dark saijin, had been trying to overthrow Daiya for many eons. Finally, the dark saijin did something that would put the existence of all the saijin on the line. Every soul has a darkness within it; no one can escape that. Nephilim tried harnessing the darkness within Daiya, who was overtaken by the power and became corrupt. Daiya began to attack the other saijin, destroying the land. There were people, powerfully influenced by the magic the saijin had, who also lived on the planet. Because the people knew that if Daiya succeeded in her rage they would be killed, they created what is known as the saijin pendant. This object, created by the purest souls the people could find, would harness the powers of all the saijin to attempt purifying Daiya. The only problem was that only a truly pure soul could use the saijin pendant. Even though the task seemed impossible, the people decided to search for such a soul. But before the search even began, Daiya came and destroyed the city that held the saijin pendant. During the destruction, Nephilim appeared and was able to encase Daiya in a crystalline substance, taking the soul saijin captive. Those who were left after the destruction either stayed or used their powers to teleport themselves to the planet Earth, where the matters of the saijin would no longer be their problem and they can forget their pasts. This is where the story begins...
The story opens eighteen years after Daiya's capture, on Earth, with Ryuu ((don't tell me that this is a guy's name, I know that)), a 22 year old girl, having visions of someone calling to her for help. She does not remember her past and knows nothing of her origins. The only thing she does have is a pendant, which she sees in these visions over and over. Also, there are Tori, a 23 year old boy who bears a deep scar on his back which he has had ever since he can remember, and Kitsune, a 21 year old girl who lost her parents when she was very young. When the three meet, a cataclysmic event occurs. Windows shatter, everyone is thrown to the ground, and the sky is filled with light. When the three look up they see the person of Ryuu's vision, who happens to be the last of Daiya's soul untouched by darkness calling for help. When the light clears, the three find themselves on the planet of the saijin. Kitsune, being a ditz, runs into a man named Sora, who listens to their story. Through him and another vision from Daiya, they discover that the pendant that Ryuu has had all her life is actually the saijin pendant, and that her soul is the one that can use it. Their quest: travel through a world that is trying to rebuild itself, use the saijin pendant to capture all the saijin, get past Nephilim, who is slowly rising to power, and purify Daiya.
