I know there is a pregnancy thread, but I thought this was more for everyone, hope it's ok. I'm almost due and people keeping giving me ideas on how to go into labor. Some of them are down right funny. I was wondering what sort of things people had been told or had tried (not that I'm going to be trying them). I just thought it might be fun. So far my sisters have told me to, walk four miles, eat eggplant and pineapple. have sex and then hold my butt in the air as long as possible (this ons is atleast some what true). I've also been told that take a really hot bath it will start labor. I will admit to trying some of this... after all my husban was gone for a year, and who doesn't love pineapple. smile

xd I got told to eat spinach, parsely and rasberries and yarrow. Have sex, go for walks, dance (gently). Get a massage with orange and ylang ylang oil. xd But hey- even if they don't work, it's a damn good excuse to have sex, eat rasberries go dancing and demand a massage! Good luck Angie- hope it's a quick and easy birth. heart

spicy food, kegals, talk to the baby about how much you want to meet them. the last one is stupid but sometimes it is fear that stops your body from doing it.

Drinking castor oil is supposed to do it too. So far, the walking thing hasnt worked for me. My mucous plug has been gone since Monday, been passing "bloody show" for about 4 days, and still no baby! Trust me, they come out in their own time... at least mine. He wont run on my time!

Walk walk walk! Every time I would walk for a mile, I'd start contractions - bad during month 6, great at the end of month 9!

my fiance and I are gonna try sex to get things going if need be xd it sounds like the best ignition to me smile ... I have been walking lots to try and settle the head down into my pelvis but that's not working. my mum told me an ice pack placed on the top of your belly near your ribs and a hot water bottle the other end is sometimes effective ?!?!?!... then again my mum is a little loco smile either way you only have 20 days to go ... it's not long at all ... I am so excited razz

I asked my mum, and her best advice is invite a bunch of people over for a few games, and as soon as your playing something that has even the remotest possibility of being embarassing the baby will decide to show.
My friends with Ayla really didnt tell me anything to try that I can remember but Ayla was a little early anyways.
(Apparently its what I did, she had people over to play cards, they were sitting playing and her water broke on go fish)

In my case, have someone tell you you're not in labor or, that you won't give birth for another 6 hours. Both came nearly instantly. lol.

I had the castor oil suggested, but I didn't feel like throwing up and having diahrrea yuck!
What, I think anyways, really did it for me was having the doctor check my cervix cause they never did it before. Within the next day my mucous plug was gone.

I actually tried the raspberry leaf tea. There are actually warnings on it that it can start preterm labor. Too bad it didn't do s**t all for my week late baby.
I think I've read somewhere that all these ways walking, tea, castor oil, cohosh, etc aren't proven ways of starting labor and that really they just help your natural labor progress.

My OB scraped the membrane and said that had like a 40% chance of sending me into labor and still nothing... my daughter was ten days late.
Before that however she had told me the four "S"es. - Sex - Stimulation (n****e stimulations--apparently naturally produceses pitocin, which is part of why breast-feeding is recommended post-partum to help the uturus contract) - Shopping - I looked at her funny and she said it's an easy way to remember to walk around. - redface I can't seem to remember the last one.

On the sex topic...I was 3 days overdue with Alexis when my doctor suggested that so we tried it...let me tell you, it was so ridiculously funny that both of us ended up laughing so hard it was difficult to ummm "finish" but finish we did and she didn't come for another 10 days. I also tried taking black cohash (an herb that is supposed to stimulate the natural pitocin production). I was told to try the following but didn't - riding on a very bumping road, laying on my stomach for extended period of time, walking a few miles, jumping jacks (this one was from my great Aunt - cracked me up) and drinking cod liver oil. Once induced a second time (cervix issues with the first induction led to them sending me home thinking that I would be back later that day instead I stayed in labor for a week until they induced me again), I went into labor just fine but even with the maximum pitocin drip my uncooperative cervix kept me from delivering until Lexi finally started pushing her way out. They come when they come- early, late or right on time. Best fo luck for a quick labor and delivery angie!
