I've heard it as Aerith. I've heard it as Aeris. I even heard it as something completely out there. So now I present to you the question: Is it Aeris, or Aerith? Vote, reason, and/or opinion please. I know all of you are intelligent people. heart 4laugh heart

Facts as in it was originally supposed to be Aerith, but it was typoed upon transfer into English, but it doesnt really matter because its pronounced the same way in Japanese at least so it only really annoys us here in America? Cause thems the facts I know. I accept both but I always use Aeris since thats the one I saw originally.

It's Aeris, because back when the game first came out, I was in Japan and saw an interview with Nomura (in Japanese, of course, I translated it). Anyhow, the names appeared in katakana, and it read "Aerisu." Therefore, it's Aeris. Maybe someone had a lisp and pronounced Aerith, I have no clue. However, it's in the game guide as well as the official website, if you're STILL convinced it's Aerith.

Aeris was her original name, I agree with squeezedlemon! Some people call her Aerith MOSTLY because of KH o_o

Actually, I'd like to agree with Shuyin.
You see, in the original Japanese version of Final Fantasy 7, her name was 'spelled' Aerith. However, in the Japanese pronounciation of the name, since most words cannot end with a consanant, the name was pronounced 'Aerisu.'
Because of the pronounciation rather than the spelling, American translators made it Aeris. This is now the universally accepted way of spelling her name, and is often the name you want to type if trying to find pictures and/or fanfics of her. However, there are still the occasional times when people, even myself, will type her name Aerith and put it up on the Ineternet.
So, I go with Aeris, but it was originally Aerith.

Again, Shuyin and Jhay-R are right.
Many a dispute I've seen over the name. Just like how the translation of many names are misrepresented in other games, Aeris or Aerith are both correct. I prefer the Aeris way because I played the game with Aeris, not Aerith.
Even in kingdom hearts, as metioned before, have there been errors in name translation. In KH: CoM, Lexeaus' real name, Eleaus was mistranslated into Eleus, making his name Lexeus. Also, in the popular Manga One piece, the main character Luffy, is actually Ruffy in Japan.
Becuase of different speech in Japan, many of the names are confused. For instance, the name 'Kyle' pronounced by a Japanese would be 'Kye' due to the lack of L pronunciation.
So really, it doesn't matter which way you use, both are correct.

Both names are correct.
I think Aeris came first.. and then in her later appearance in different games like KH, she got her name Aerith.

Personally i prefer to use Aeris because it is pleasing more to my ear. but i accept both, i find it annoying when someone only accepts one and has a cow if you don't do things their way, but that's just me.

jestiferjames ff 7 is very near and dear to my heart and i grew up calling her aeries. thats her name, thats how its spelled and as far as i'm concerned thats always going to be her name. I don't give a crap how it was spelled in japan, i live in america, and here in america its godzilla, not gojirra, thank you, not domo, and AERIES NOT AERITH. square has no right to go back and change a beloved character's name years later. besides, aerith isn't even how its pronounced in japan, its actually closer to aeries anyway. so square-enix basicaly lied and made up a reason to go back and mess with our heads. i blame enix, because the squaresoft i know would never do such a terrible thing. if you love America you pronounce it "Aeries", anyone who says "Aerith" is a commie! I'M NOT A COMMIE, ARE YOU?I do not mean to flame you, but that has got to be one of the most racist things I've ever heard concerning Aeris. You do realize, it's spelled Aeris, not Aeries, right? God.... Making fun of Asian people you do not know the Americanized spelling of the name... bah, i agree with jhay-r, being an asian brought up in america, that's horribly offensive; it's a completely different language, and so that makes it bad? how does spelling a name make you a commie?
