Quote:
Everything was bright. In her memories, at least. Even though her abilities had now stretched to include some limited form of maneuvering and shape identification- details, the details she loved were always lost. So she had to think well to remember the earth as it had been when she had seen. And she remembered it brightly.

It was the end of summer, and it wouldn’t be long before fall came. That would make a year she had been in the woods, and two years since- the female paused and rose her head, carefully swinging it from side to side, getting a feeling for the thoughts passing around her. In spite of such a time, she was looking for her sister. Winter would be coming after fall- and no matter what Phib said, she wasn’t going to leave her to freeze to death. But finding Ryukkii would take some time, particularly when she had to step on eggshells to do it.

So she decided she’d start early. More then likely, she wouldn’t appear until she really needed to...

For now, she focused on the flowers that she couldn’t see, but imagined even though it was past their time. It made everything look much nicer in her mind, and Amélie was glad for that.

------------------

The wind carressed his aging face softly, and Khaliki smiled to himself. The old wolf was laying in a group of fall flowers, the plnts early this year. He could tell that from the chill in the air and then growing of his coat that fall was on it's way. Some of the leaves were already changing on the trees as well.

The wind carried with it the scent of a female, and Khal lifted his head from the ground slowly, blinking as he scnned his surroundings. He saw in the distance a shape, a familar one. He watched her for a few moments, trying to recall her name. I am getting old. He thought to himself, shaking his head as he stood and stretched.

Amélie.

That was it, he remembered the blind wolf now. He called out to her in a low howl of greeting, smiling a little as he watched to see her reaction.

-------------------

Khaliki smiled brightly at her as she ran towards him, and knowing that she was blind he preapred himself to step backwards when she stopped a small amount in front of him. He chuckled at her greeting and smiled softly, "Greetings! I'm doing fine, just fine." He said smiling. "It has been too long. How are you?" He asked, sitting down once again.

Memories of their first meeting flooded his mind and he remembered Phib, the large black wolf he had befriended as well. "I haven't seen Phib in long time either. How is he?" He asked, smiling and cocking his head to the side.

-------------------

“I am very good yes.” She smiled, her body wriggling. So much had changed, and there was always a new crisis almost daily, but she had been handling it rather well. There was a slight nervousness to her brow that might have been detectable, and she looked thinner then usual, but otherwise she hid any worry well. “Always things to be doing, going-“

”Phib is very well. Busy, mostly.” She admitted. “Running pack things, always new wolves coming about and he loves to make himself important.” Right now, there were some plans to actually expand the lands a bit. Thirty-five wolves had never been something even Phib had thought of handling, but he had accepted the responsibility as readily as any wolf could. He was used to managing large groups.

“We’ve been a little more home-bound these last two months.” She admitted. Troubles with Phantom, troubles in the pack, Ryukkii, strange groups- all had given the pair more then a bit to run around with rather then enjoying the time on the freelands. It seemed like a large part of their offpack time was stumbling onto chaos. “It’s good to have things quiet again. It’s good to see you are well.”

--------------------

Khaliki nodded as she spoke. He didn't know much about the happenings of the world around him, since he didn't belong to a pack since he was a pup. He could tell she had a lot on her mind, and he wondered if he could help her at all with that. "I am well, yes. I'm glad Phib is well, too. He seems like he can handle most things." He said with a smile.

"Peace and quiet are lways good." He said nodding, glad that his life had been rather quiet as of late. "If there's anything I can help you with, just let me know. I'd be glad to do anything I can for you nd Phib."

---------------------

“He can.” She admitted, smiling affectionately. Even if he didn’t really think it, Amélie put a lot of faith in what Phib could handle. He was good with those things. Even if she didn’t believe he enjoyed them, she knew he found ways to manage it all. “He likes to do the busy work, so I don’t think he minds it much.”

The omission of help brought a gentle smile to Amélie’s face, and flattening her ears, she nodded her head and placed a few puppy kisses beneath the older male’s chin. “Thank you, I will remember that.” She didn’t think they needed the help- but the fact that he had offered was perhaps more pleasing then anything else that could have been said.

“Are you heading someplace Khal? Or just roaming these days?” The grey female questioned, her head tilting to the side. It would be good to know what their old friend was up to.

Khaliki smiled at the puppy kisses and held back chuckle at how they tickled. "Not a problem." He said with a smile to her, then thought for a moment at her question. "Just roaming, really. I've been roaming around these parts for a while now. It is rather lonely, though." He said with a solemn smile. "But that's what I'm used to, so it doesn't bother me anymore." His normal smiled returned and he laid down, setting one paw atop the other.

"What have you been up to? Aside from helping Phib, I assume."

Amélie frowned. “You should come visit sometime, and not be so lonely. Phib can be busy,” she admitted. “But I’m always not doing much of anything. I have been hunting crabs though. I am thinking I’m not much good at it, but it is a very yummy hobby. I like the beach, but swimming can be hard sometimes. I-” She paused for a moment, retracting the statement that would have followed.

She hesitated to admit to people what she was. Mostly because there was a level of fear regarding what she was. She had been working very hard on her talents- careful not to infiltrate too much into other people’s minds, while learning to have a kind of second sight. It wasn’t very good- but it did help her from ramming into things. Sometimes.

“-I suppose I can’t say I’m really doing much of anything interesting. But I like when I am not of doing much.” She replied, her voice light. “I am looking for my sister though. Although- please do not be of mentioning that to Phib, if you are seeing him.”

Khal smiled a little to her, then raised an eyebrow at her. "Crab hunting? I've never been crab hunting before. I would lvoe to try it sometime." He said smiling. As she spoke, he noted that she seemed to want to speak to him about something else, but stopped herself. He pushed the thought aside for future contemplation.

"Your sister?" He asked, cocking his head to the side again. "Perhaps I've seen her in my travels. What does she look like? And don't worry, I won't tell him." He smiled a little. "Sometimes doing nothing is more fun than doing something." He chuckeld softly. "What's your sisters name?"

“Hee- it’s somewhat painful, but that might be just me.” She spoke, her tail carefully wagging. “But I enjoy it a lot. I’m a little bit of a picky eater.” That was a bit of an overstatement. She didn’t eat anything that she felt hadn’t been ready to die. Mostly she ate fish and crabs, who’s mind lengths were too simple for her to really understand. It made eating a lot easier.

“My sister...” She paused, and lowered her eyes. “If you met her, it would be best to walk away. She...she looks a lot like me, but she is very ill. You’d know her if you saw her, she’s...” She paused, and lowered her eyes, trying to think of the words. “Disfigured, you would say.”
PostPosted: Wed Aug 30, 2006 6:25 am

Khal smiled at her words, lughing a little. "I suppose you would have to be careful around them." He said smiling. "Ah, I'm not picky at all. Though I do usually eat only small animals, like rabbits and mice. Can't catch large prey by yourself." He said with a small grin.

Watching her as she spoke about her sister, an expression of concern fell over his face. "Oh... am sorry." He said, unsure of what else to say to her. "I don't believe I have met her, but I would be glad to help you look for her." He said smiling, wanting to cheer her up.

The talk of siblings brought back a few memories into the dark eyed wolf, and he tried to shake them away, but they wouldn't budge. Memories of his younger siblings and older brother... And the day he left the pack. Khal shook his head harder, trying to rid himself of the memory.

"Would you care to go catch some crabs then?" He asked, a smile in his voice as he changed the subject.

Amélie shook her head. “I don’t think I’d be asking that of you. My sister is sick, and she says things she doesn’t mean. She’s very cruel- although she isn’t really dangerous now. I want her to be happy. I don’t want her to be that way anymore.” The small female spoke, veiling her eyes. But would there ever be a cure for Ryukkii’s poison words? She was a most disturbing form of wicked... but Amélie could not look away. There had to be redemption in it all. She didn’t believe in impossible tasks.

She was thankful for the change of subject, although thoughts of her sister still lingered in the back of her mind. Her brushy tail wagged excitedly, and she took a few steps forward. “I would like that very much. It is a good time of day to look for them- it should be nearing dusk by the time we get to the water. The crabs come out around then.” She spoke, her deadened eyes wide.

“They can make owches though-“ She warned, “But I think it’s worth it. They’re very good.”

Khal nodded a little to her, and smiled weakly. He felt badly for her, though wasn't sure what else he could say. "I believe you'll find a way to help her. Don't give up on it." He said with another smile, hoping his words may comfort her a bit. The prediciment reminded him of his older brother and himself, and the way he had saved the large wolf from being driven out of their pack. At the expense of never seeing his family again.

"Lead the way then." He said with a smile, standing up. His tail swished back and forth happilly behind him. "Hopefully beginners luck will help me here." He said, chuckling. "I don't want any ouchies."

Amélie nodded her head softly, although as much as her deadened eyes could display, there was a kind of tiredness in them. She tried, and she tried- but perhaps... no; she didn’t allow the doubt to enter her mind. But it was there. She knew her sister’s mind about as well as she knew her own, and it was hard to separate what was her own voice, and the dark thoughts she occasionally absorbed from the other female. It was not that Ryukkii was particularly cruel and violent that made her wicked- it was the fact that she was logical. And logic was hard to shake. It wasn’t fair what she was born into- Amélie agreed. But oh how such a mind could be used to help others! Instead, she let it rot away in her own self pity.

Moving distracted her thoughts from her sister, and she was glad for the reprieve from it. Perhaps Phib would be about- she was sure he’d like to meet up with Khal again. She made note to speak to him when they got a bit closer.

Once onto the lands, the smell of salt was much more pungent, along with that of other wolves. She curved a bit to the south- following a kind of mental trail she had memorized thanks to her echoing mind. It kept them out of the direct contact of the other wolves- as she had picked up that Khal might have had an apprehension to suddenly being greeted on all angles.

She stopped just off of the lowlands, freezing for a moment to carefully ‘ping’ her mind about. As she got closer to the water- there were less and less living things for her to grasp, and slowly she faded into darkness.

“Hee-“ Amélie spoke, wagging her tail softly as Khal approached from behind. “I can’t really tell which way to go now. You should be able to see the direction from here-“

Khaliki watched as the female made her way towards the ocean. He was fascinated by how she could find her way around everything, even though she was blind. He thought perhaps she came here very often, and didn't need sight to find her way.

As they walked, Khal trotted beside and a little behind her, letting her lead them. Soon the scent of salt water filled his senses to the brim, and he stuck his nose into the cool breeze that flew to them from the open ocean.

As they finally made it to the water, Khal glanced to her as she spoke and smiled little. "Yes, I can see it. It's beautiful." He said, though regretted his words, folding his ears back against his head regretfully. He figured apologizing would be even worse, since the female didn't seem to mind her blindness anyway. Khal shook the thoughts away and began to walk towards the waters edge.

"You'll have to teach me how to hunt for crabs, I've never done it before." He said with a smile as they walked along the sand, sniffing around to see if he couldn't pick up the smell of one.

She had been somewhat concerned with out...unusual it might seem to others that she could find her way around. They probably deserved an explanation- and yet, she couldn’t mouth the words. She was too afraid to find out what kind of people would change towards her, thanks to her abilities. As it were, there were only a handful of people who had any idea she was what she was. Would she have even told Phib, if Phantom had not?

Amélie had been somewhat distracted with her thoughts when Khal spoke, but a smile that crossed her muzzle implied she did not mind. She did miss not being able to see the sunset- but sometimes she did get glimpses from other wolves’s sight, and that pleased her. Her blindness- even before all of this, had never given her cause to feel slighted by fate. Although there were times when she longed to see the world-

But for this! She had become a kind of expert. “They burrow underground, so you smell for them.” She walked forwards a bit towards the surf, and nosed at the earth. “Phib says they also make pinpricks where they breathe, so you can look for them too.” Carefully she rounded around a mound in the dirt, and began to dig. Sure enough- an angry crab walked out, brandishing his brightly colored claws.

“And- then catching it is the hard part.” She admitted, and started to chase after it; Which being a blind wolf, even with seer powers, was somewhat a mixture of lunacy, as she ran circles around the crab that was no longer there- heard it to the left of her and ran that way, the crab had gone right– and so forth.

((*got the most funny image from that* xDDD))

Khaliki watched her as she explained, and sat down to watch a pro in action. But as she began to circle around the crab, looking rather... well, crazy, he bit down a laugh. As she continued to chase it, he couldn't control himself, and he burst out laughing, almost falling over from the sheer pressure of it.

As he finally calmed down, still chuckling, he spoke in an apologetic, yet amused voice, "I'm sorry, it's just... you look very funny when you do that." He grinned, though put his ears back a little.

"Oky. I'll try it out..." He said, and he stuck his nose to the sand, then started sniffing around happily. His tail wagged bck and forth behind him as he searched, and when he cught the scent of one, he quickly started to dig deep into the cool snd.

A large crab flew from the hole and ran roight at Khals face, obviously not happy about being disturbed. Apparently he ld wolf had gotten a crab with a bit too much testosterone, 'cause it latched it's largest claw onto the wolfs ear.

Khal cried out in pain and began shaking his head violently, and rubbing the crab aginst the earth. "Get off me you crazy thing!"

Amélie giggled in good humor as she circled, pawing at the offending crab in tight concentration- although her movements were perhaps scantily accurate. Although she was too focused to respond- she did note it wasn’t the first time her antics had brought about laughter. Phib attempted not to laugh; and he was rather good at it, but he couldn’t hide the smug smile on his face- which she impishly picked up on.

Carefully she began to hinge her mouth at an angle, knocking the crabs shell with her teeth when it ran by. Although her methods were somewhat far too laborous and inaccurate- within a few moments she seemed to be getting somewhere when all of a sudden Khal shouted.

At once Amélie winced at the reflected pain, and turned around towards him- giving the crab ample time to run away. “Oh no! Don’t shake it, let it drop on it’s own or it’ll bite harder–!”
PostPosted: Sun Sep 03, 2006 7:08 am

Khal listened to her words, but he wasn't sure if he could do what she said. How it hurt! He finally pulled himself rogether, and setting the crbs legs on the ground, he stopped moving, wincing in pain.

Finally the angry crab let go, and bcked away from him, moving from side to side and snapping it's claws together. Khal glared at it, watching it with a disgutsed face as he put his paw to his ear to see if it was bleeding,. It was.

"I don't think I like crabs very much." Khal said with a shake of his head, glancing to the wolf beside him he smiled a little. "Well... it was rather funny." He said with a chuckle.

The crab meanwhile, dug back down into its hole, escaping the strange creture and very hppy with itself.

Amélie giggled pleasantly, and nodded her head. They’d both ended up mostly crabless, but at least it hadn’t ended too painfully. “Let me try to catch one. They’re made of clippers, but if you eat them they are very good.” The pale grey spoke, and slowly started to nose back around the mud. It was thick and somewhat sloppy around this portion, but unfortunately, that was how crabs liked it. Clams too she had found were very good, but she had a hard time deciphering which round objects in her mouth were clams, and which were rocks- so she decided to save herself that embarrassment and not show that ‘talent’ off.

As she fiddled about, a faint pang fluttered across her head. She paused for a moment and looked up, her pale eyes blinking as she deciphered what it was. But if she seemed surprised for more then a second, her head returned back towards the ground, and a smile crossed her snout. She hadn’t doubted it would take long for him to find his way over.

“I hope she didn’t convince you into trying that escapade.” A low male’s voice spoke slowly as the black wolf slid out from the woods behind them. He paused for a moment to glance behind him out of habit, before craning his neck and pleasantly approaching the two. “I’ve been trying to talk her out of it, but it hasn’t worked yet.” Phib remarked.

Amélie giggled sheepishly, and then jerked back in surprise as a crab ran out of the hole. She began the awkward chase again- something which Phib averted his eyes to. “Hello Khal.” He spoke, nodding his head pleasantly.
