I want 3 GOOD SOLID reasons why you don't like Gerard Butler as the Phantom (aka: Gerik).

1. His singing is bad.
Granted, for a man new to singing, he did fine. However, compared to anyone else in the movie who had years of professionalism under their belt, then he did badly.

2. His attitude
While Schumacher is responsible for the major sexified attitude of the film, he carried an attitude most of the film as if he wasn't deformed and was basically some cocky guy in a mask for show.

3. His acting
Not just in this film, but in a great number of films he has been in. He seems to wear the same expression--a cocky smirk--and traipses around like he is the god of sexiness. Now personally, I don't find him attractive so that atribute just makes him intolerable to me. And with the role of The Phantom, he oozed that poor acting trait which just made it all the less believable that he was a pitiful creature of a man who had been abused and hated all his life.

I don't have that much of a problem with Butler... buuut 'phans' saying that the Phantom/Erik is hot then it drives me crazy. xd

Yes that tends to be irritating. I personally thought Butler's perfromance was very good...considering the amount of time he had to train for it.

Yes that tends to be irritating. I personally thought Butler's perfromance was very good...considering the amount of time he had to train for it.

I am a regular on the official thread in the Entertainment Discussion and we get a lot of people who say that. Debates/Arguements occur too. sweatdrop

You gotta realize that's NOT Gerard Butler's fault though. That's the stupid "phans" talking.

I find I can't hate him, why? He was the first I saw. Do you know why else? It's ALW's ******** fault he turned a perfectly good book into a smut fest. (He did it pretty much from square one in The Mirror).

It isn't his fault. It is the director's (I can never spell his name...) fault making it sexy and the Phantom hardly had a deformity.

hm... it technically would be Joel Shumacher's fault. I saw what they originally had in mind for the Phantom's facial deformity, and it looked WAY better than the one they used in the movie. I wondered why they changed it.

The truth is that HE IS NOT A GOOD ENOUGH SINGER FOR THE ROLE. His singing is full of rasping and he can't hit all the notes. If he were a rock star, this would be fine. But Erik is supposed to have a marvelous voice that people love as soon as they hear it. Boo to Gerry.

Why don't I like Gerard Butler? I can't really name one thing that puts me off entirely. It's more an assortment of little things that just grind my nerves...

We do not like his voice so rough
