As May said, BRD/NIN is an amazing tank if played correctly. Mazurka pulls a nice chunk of hate wether you're in a dungeon or not. BRD/RDM I can't see being a better tank. Yes, theres alot of dmg-%, but a BRD without shadows gets hit HARD, and you can only take so much away from a high number by subtracting percentages.

RDM isn't really a great sub. I had to level it for my BLM because I guess that's what all the cool kids are doing these days and Phalanx doesn''t seem too exciting at sub level. I have not yet tried it as sub for my BRD but it seems impractical.
Bard does not become a powerhouse. Even with Joyeuse at 75 it will take forever to kill anything.
But if you throw /nin at anything it can tank. That's not the question here. MNK, with its paper thin DEF suddenly becomes a tank with /nin.
Mages Ballad I + II still just equals refresh rate, and the songs take awhile.
Generally seems pointless to do BRD/RDM for anything but messing around. It doesn't add a thing for pulling either, because you need your /na spells to stay self-sufficient enough to build up the big chains.

Bard are and probably always will be a support character first and formost. Because ofthis they are rather weak, lack defence, and have low-ish hp. Red mage is also mostly a support job lacking defence without spells, low hp. Combineing these doesn't look good in terms of tanking, infact I can only thing of one combination between rdm and brd and thats rdm/brd at lvl 50+ for manaburns. Refresh + mage ballard 1 = 4mp per tick plus they have elemental threnodys to weaken mob to selected element.
To sum up, brd/rdm as tank, no.

@Silvyee That hurts right <3 <----there. My monk does fine with takeing damage and i have nt even unlocked NIN yet.

Alot of you seem to think BRD can't tank because they can't do dmg. I don't quite understand your logic here... Tank does not equal damage dealer. The only requirements of a tank is to hold hate (Mazurka and other songs) and take as little damage as possible (/NIN) for as long as possible (Songs take 0 MP and cannot be interuppted). For these reasons BRD/NIN is an excelent tank (end game anyway). I have tanked my share of HNMs and gods as BRD/NIN. If you can't get a song finished intime to get a new set of shadows up, while the mob has slow and elegy, then you're probably doing something wrong. I also exp as BRD/NIN mostly. At end game your healers should be experienced enough to not need the brd's /WHM help. and pulling with elegy, with shadows up, means theres virtually no down time. I normally pull 3-5 mobs at a time and lullaby them until the pt is ready for the next one.
