Auri paced back a forth, a worried look on his face. It seemed like ages since Jani had realised that she was pregnant, and since then she had just got fatter and fatter. It was worrying, as Auri had never experienced anything like this before, and he just didn't know what to do.
"Are you OK?" He said finally, coming to a stop in front of his mate. "If you need anything at all, just tell me." His tone of voice reflected his current nervous disposition. Could today really be the day he becomes a father?

"I'm fine, Auri," Jani said, a hint of amusement in her voice before her concentration returned to the task at hand; finally giving birth to the babies that had completely taken over her stomach! The thought of actually being something's birth mother had always been a secret dream of Jani's, and now that she was with Auri, well..."We'll be fine. But stay with me, please...I want you to be here when our pups are born."
She had sent Tufani away, and now she was regreting it slightly. For, while Tufani was a very naive adolescent, she was still a female, and Tufani needed to know what it was like to have children of her own. But she had Auri...things would work out fine.

Auri managed to sit himself down eventually, but his front paws continued to fidget around in the ground. "Of course." He replied with a smile. He wanted to be here for the birth of their pups too. He just wished he could be more helpful.
Sighing contently, he leaned forward to nuzzle against Jani's neck, with some firm but reassuring affection. "How many do you think there will be?" Auri secretly longed for a son, as no doubt most fathers did. He would be more than happy with a son or a daughter though.

"Judging by the...umph...contractions...a small...AH! ARMY!" Jani screeched through the birthing pains. Being a mother was extremely complicated, from what she could tell from all this pain and confusion. There was definitely one pup coming out, though...
*plop!*
A tiny black pup fell to the ground of the den, and Jani let instincts take over. She definitely had to clean all this blood off the poor dear, and that cord just had to be severed. After biting the umbilical cord off, Jani noted several things about the pup as she nuzzled it to her side. For one, it had Auri's golden markings, and a back stripe in the shade of green that her markings were. For two..."This one is a boy," she said to Auri before focusing on the sharp pains that had started again.

Auri's legs almost buckled underneath him as he watched the tiny pup drop to the ground. Once Jani had finished cleaning it, he nuzzled it lightly, a wide smile appearing instantly on his maw. "What a handsome boy." There wasn't much time to admire his first born though, as Jani still had a lot to go through.
The black pup with the green streak, who would be named Eusi'johari in the future, wriggled aroun and yelped like there was no tomorrow. He didn't sound as if he was in any distress, it just seemed as though he wanted all the attention.

((I'm just going by the order they are in the PM, because I'm too lazy to invent a new order. ))
Jani could barely hear the voice of Auri commenting on their son, or the yelps of her first-born son, for the pain of giving birth was upon her, and judging from the movement in her stomach area, she still had a long way to go before this was over and the real work began.
She shuddered at one long contraction before the second pup emerged and she went to work at cleaning him up as she had cleaned the first son. This one was another boy, and he was her opposite in color. Black markings that seemed a perfect combination of her markings and Auri's markings covered his otherwise green fur.
"Another boy," Jani said before going back to concentrating on the contractions.
Whatwasthat? This place was so cold compared to what he was used to. Why was it so cold? What was this strange wet thing that was taking the warm stuff off of him? Why was he moving again? Where was he going?
Oh. This place where he had been moved was warm enough, and there was something that tasted good here too. Plus there was another warm thing next to him. The world wasn't so bad after all.

After his second pup arrived, Auri was struggling to make his smile any bigger. Yes, he was still worried for Jani, as all of this looked like very hard work, but he was just so happy to be a father of two sons that he couldn't help but smile.
"You're doing so well Jani." He nuzzled lightly against her cheek, his words full of reassurance, before he moved to nuzzle the green pup towards the black one.

"Thank you," she panted, smiling briefly before the next pup started to make its way toward the world. She was doing her best to seem more comfortable than she actually was, for Auri's sake. But after dealing with the first two boys, she was almost used to this birthing stuff.
Soon, Jani was nudging a little golden pup toward her brothers. A pup that looked so much like Auri, it amazed the mother jackal.
"A girl," Jani said, quite happily. She had been secretly hoping for at least one daughter, and now she had one. But there was still some time to go before this was all over.
There was something that tickled him, and it was moving him toward the other warm thing. He didn't like the movement of being born, but this movement was more gentle, and most interesting.

The little mass of golden fur rolled over once gently nudged by Jani. Where was she now? Whats this place...its so different from before...it was colder! She wanted to go back. Scooting around as best she could she nudged herself between her two brothers...which she just referred to as 'the soft warm things.'
But she wasn't scared.
Something about the scent of the others here calmed her. Soon it would etch an image in her mind that these were her siblings, and her mother and father were here too. Squeaking almost silently she nestled herself next to Jani. So warm and comfy. Yes, this place was nice. But she also wanted to be able to nudge the other one here...her daddy. But he was too far away for her to snuggle by.
So she lay comfortably next to her mommy. As happy as she could be. Squeaking in a way of saying 'hi' to Auri then she was silent. Almost falling asleep...she was so tired.

"Adorable." Auri whispered as Jani revealed that his third born was actually a girl. And she looked just like him, which pleased him greatly. No doubt she would be his little princess, just like Malaika was to Mahiri.
Smiling, he licked the little girl, and nuzzled her between her older brothers.
The black pup continued to yelp and squeal and cry as he tried to crawl on top of his green brother in an attempt to get more attention. He still didn't sound as if he was in any distress, he just wanted some affection and reassurance, as he still wasn't sure about the new enviroment he had suddenly been brought into.

Jani nuzzled the little black pup back to her side. Sibling rivalry already? Motherhood was going to be most interesting. More contractions? How many pups was she expecting?! Jani closed her eyes and concentrated on this pup, her fourth. It was a bit of a struggle this time, but soon she was tending to a pup that had markings like Auri's and her own, but had the distinction of being light brown. There'd be no danger of mistaking this pup for one of his siblings. "Another boy," Jani said as she pushed this pup to her side.
Ouch! The little green pup yelped a little as the little warm thing tried to get on top of him. But the big warm thing was quick about getting it off, so it didn't hurt too much. Besides, the big warm thing was giving him something tasty, so he wasn't going to complain. Except about the little warm thing if it came too close again.

And suddenly the veil came away and behind his eyelids shimmered light instead of endless darkness. He rolled sideways suddenly and then found himself being nudged sideways, his face coming into contact with a warm wall of fur.
Mother...
He nuzzled his face against her stomach, breathing in her comforting scent and rolled over to bump into his siblings.
It was then that his small chirping squeaks sounded, the sounds high-pitched but faint to the ears as he tried to right himself and reach the meal that was waiting for him.

Auri chuckled as the black pup tried its best to scale his brother, and smiled as Jani quickly moved to put him back at her side where he would hopefully begin feeding. Surely all that yelping had made him thirsty. As his mate struggled to deliver the fourth pup, he moved to rest his body beside hers, incase she needed to lean on him for support. "I'm right here dear, don't worry."
The fourth pup was very handsome indeed, and seemed to be a mix of both parents in markings, and in the darker colours of his fur. Auri couldn't be prouder. "Three sons and a daughter." He said out loud, voicing his thoughts. "I couldn't be happier." Of course, that wouldn't be true for long, as he was unaware that another pup was still to come.
The black pup yipped as something large and warm moved him away from his brother towards an area that was warm all around. Finally, he started feeding, which shut him up for the first time since he was born.

Jani blinked in surprise as the birthing pains started once more. It wasn't over yet? She could have sworn that the brown pup was the last, but she was clearly mistaken. "The last one is coming," she told Auri, before turning her attention briefly to her brown pup, doing her best to nudge him back to the proper position for feeding.
It wasn't long at all before Jani was cleaning the last pup, a girl with most unusual markings around her legs. "Three sons, and two daughters," Jani said, before closing her eyes for much-needed rest.
The green pup yawned and stretched as best as he could given the abundance of warm things around him. Being born was hard work, and he was quite tired.
