Do YOU think there's enough proof to confirm Jesus's existence?
  Yes
  No
  Proof enough for me
Wait, I'm still thinking . . . this is HARD!

No, I don't have a doubt in my mind that Jesus did, in fact, exist. This subject just came up in another forum, and so I transfered it to this new location where it fit better. So, c'mon people, throw your doubts at me. Join either side if you wish, and have a good time! So who's up for a heated debate?

If you could also direct any disbelievers here, that would be greatly appreciated. After all, the more the merrier! Let's have some arguements!

Thallus and Phlegon
Both were ancient historians and both confirmed the fact that the land went dark when Jesus was crucified. This parallels what the Bible said happened when Jesus died.

Mara Bar-Serapion
Some time after 70 A.D., Mara Bar-Sarapion, who was probably a Stoic philosopher, wrote a letter to his son in which he describes how the Jews executed their King. Claiming to be a king was one of the charges the religious authorities used to scare Pontius Pilate into agreeing to execute Jesus.

Josephus
Josephus was a Jewish historian who was born in either 37 or 38 AD and died some time after 100 AD. He wrote the Jewish Antiquites and in one famous passage described Jesus as a wise man, a doer of wonderful works and calls him the Christ. He also affirmed that Jesus was executed by Pilate and actually rose from the dead

Also, this should probally be in the debate area... hmm?

Yeah, I considered that, but I thought it would be easier for others to find it here. (Y'know, where it's RIGHT THERE. 3nodding ) Remember that I directed others here, so I want to make this as easy as possible. As I said before, this began as an arguement elsewhere (where it didn't fit the subject). I told the others I would move it here. Besides, I don't want anyone who doesn't believe Jesus existed to have to search all over a Christian guild to find this. It might be uncomfortable for them. (Please understand this . . .)

That's a great arguement, but remember, I believe Jesus existed. This room was set up for a previous debate that occured in another room where it didn't belong (in the entertainment forum). Still, I like that one . . .

Good point.. but if we accept that the stuff around is is real, and forensics work.. (and let's face it, this certainly seems the most likely.. and besides, tons of philosophers have wasted tons of time debating it, so I don't see the point in an amatuer philosopher like me wasting any time on the subject) then yeah, I say there are ways to prove Jesus existed.

And people have, haven't they? I dunno. I saw a show on it. Good old TV. There's enough evidence for me. I mean, it's more likely then the idea that someone just made him up one day.;; What with the huge following he gained and all. It's not like media was mass-produced back then, so a fictional character would have had a hard time of it.

I guess just seeing how 4 people (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) who wrote about the same timeline and the same person confirms that Jesus did exist.

the real question to people is that was jesus really the son of god like he claimed to be. like everyone i know that isnt christian knows that he was real but say he was just a normal human. there was even a course at my brothers old college about who was jesus was historically.

What does it matter if he was the 'Son of God'? Aren't we all Sons (and Daughters) of God? I don't really care if he was different in that way. It's not that that grabs my attention; it's the fact that he had an amazing understanding of God and His creation.

Although I believe that Jesus existed, I must add this: What does it matter?
Even if all us Christians have been believing in a hoax, it's for the better of the world. Why would someone bother to fashion this complete religion? They wouldn't benefit themself, but others. The ways of Jesus are good for mankind and the soul, hoax or no. And even if there is no Heaven or God waiting for us, I still would still feel that I made the most of my life if I lived to be a good follower of God.

Here's an argument for God's existance, which when we prove God's existance, pretty much means we prove Jesus' existance.

Try this on for size razz (I mean that in a holy way, not in a bad way!)

According to science, and more importantly, our own observations, there had to be an original creator because nothing here, whether you believe we live in a temporal reality or anything else, lives forever. Science, and once again, observations, prove that everything dies in some way. For instance, an atom does not remain the same for it's entire life. At some point the atom splits and forms two more or four more or any number more depending on the reaction. The original does not still exist, it was split in however many atoms you have. So, there must have been a creating force of some kind because nothing could have just lived forever. Evolution is not instantaneous, it takes millions upon millions of years and repetitious behaviour to change some part of any given animal. So, nothing we know about lives for millions of years. What if there were an animal that could live for millions of years? What would that prove? I could have said ten million, the fact is it still dies which mean it couldn't have "Always existed." The only force that can "Always Exist" would have to be that creating force, or God.

I'll answer arguments to this.

Part Two:

In answer to the person who asked if we exist or not and for us to prove it. That is another topic, and one that really has no bearing on this subject. Your proposing that we don't exist and that this "Reality" as we know it is a figment of our imagination. What you can't explain, is that if this is a figment of our imagination or if we don't exist really, where are we? We, the person, intellect, will, mind, soul, and expression filled human being must be somewhere. Whether or not this is our real life, the fact that we die still backs-up my above point. So i ask you, if we don't exist, where are we?
