Dear Journal,
I am weary today, as lack of sleep can do to you. The afternoon dragged on, time ticking by so slowly, the sands in the hourglass seemed to multiply by the second with more and more time left in the day. Zaleal comes home tonight, after being out on the fences for weeks, and I have planned to greet him at the gates to welcome him home, oh I have missed him so.

Mother complains constantly that I think of him too much, that I am yet young to have these feelings. She simply cannot understand that I am not a baby, I turned 1005 just last month for Jaku's sake! I am not some innocent newborn, fresh out of the womb. She does not remember when she was this age, apparently, her 5000 years on this earth have clouded her memory. I shan't change her mind, but I still await my love's return, despite whatever she thinks. I must go prepare, he may return early, and I wish to be there to see him.

Dear Journal,
My love has returned, with nary a scratch on him! He seemed as pleased as I that he was home, and greeted me with a kiss so passionate and warm, I could sense the love eminating from him. By the time we untangled ourselves, I realized just how long I had been waiting for him, and I had long since missed supper.

Being the gallant Tsoa that Zal is, he informed me that his parents had food waiting for him, and he was sure that I would be welcome. My ecstasy at the thought must have been apparent, as the smile that lit up his face could put the sun to shame in its brightness and warmth. He assured me that the meal would be delicious as his mother was preparing it herself.

We walked up to his house and he knocked on the door to announce his arrival home, and strangely enough, got no answer to his knocking. It couldn't have been too quiet for them to hear, as he literally banged on the door, I don't know how one could not hear it. We ventured inside and all was quiet, no food out on the table, no note explaining where his parents had gone off to. I attempted to reassure him, insisting that maybe something had happened with a family friend and they had gone for support, but he still seemed shaken.

After searching around the flet for a few minutes, we gave up, and decided that if needed we could search more in the morning while there was daylight, and maybe they would arrive back at his house by then. We parted ways at that point, and here I am, dear journal. I do hope that nothing has happened to Zal's parents, they are a lovely couple and I didn't want to scare Zal by acting worried around him...oh I hope they're all right....I shall have to assist him and help search for them in the morning if no word comes about..

Dear Journal,
It was the strangest thing, I woke up this morning, the sun a quarter through it's path in the sky, to Zal's face above me, tears streaked down his face. My mother had let him in to see me as she had assumed that I was awake, but she was wrong (for once) with that guess. Zal quickly explained that his parents were still missing and that he had gotten no sleep, that he had been thinking about them all night, wondering what might have happened.

Once I got him calmed down I shooed him out of my room to get dressed, and quickly found a tunic and my loose travelling pants and put them on so that I would be able to move about easily, a dress would be too cumbersome for me to wear. I grabbed his arm, let my mother know what was going on, and we quickly left the flet.

The first logical thought to cross my mind was to check at the local infirmary, in the off-chance that something had happened to one of them and they had been relocated to the infirmary to the time being. As Zal and I strode in the healer (a friend of Zal's named Jorako) looked at Zal and his eyes lit up and he rushed over. I hoped that maybe Jorako knew something about Zal's parents' disappearance.

Sadly, it was not so...Jorako was eager to hear of how Zal's training went and how it was at the fences as he himself had wished to become a warrior but instead was urged to be a healer and help where his skills could best place him. Zal quickly recounted his time and then asked Jorako if he had heard word of his parents, to which Jorako shrugged and replied that he hadn't and wished us luck in finding them.

By the time we had done all of this, the sun was directly over us and it was time for us to eat our midday meal, so I offered that Zal could come back home with me to get some food and there we could brainstorm what our next steps would be in finding his parents.

Zal agreed with me, and here I am, journal, writing as Zal sits next to me eating his food...we're both so worried now, but there are still numerous options as to what we can do...so hope still lingers..

Dear Journal,
Zal and I continued searching for his parents this afternoon...we headed down to the smithery where his father works and no one there had seem him all day, or all day yesterday for that matter. It seems that the last day people saw him was on the 11th...something has obviously happened. Zal was so upset, it broke my heart to see the utter devestation written on his face when he heard the news.

I decided that there was only one thing to do, and that was to go talk to the Lady of Tsoacki, or at least try and get in to see her. Few are able to as she is very busy with matters dealing with the ruling of this realm, but I figured that it was worth a shot to try and see her.

We headed to the palace, the large marble pillars glistening in the sun, two guards standing at either side of the entrance. We briefly talked with them and they sent us onwards into the castle, explaining that we needed to speak with the Lady's personal servant, who would then ask the Lady if she wished to see us.

My heart was fluttering with anticipation after speaking with the servant, named Koleja, who expressed her sympathy at the predicament we had found ourselves in, and then bustled off to go speak with her Lady.

Waiting around seemed to last forever, blood pounding in my ears, I had never been that near to the Lady before, knowing that she was just in the other room. Koleja returned and said that the Lady would see us but that we couldn't linger for long as she had work to do. We stepped eagerly into the room and saw the Lady before us..

Oops...mother is coming...I shall have to depart and continue this later, dear journal.

Dear Journal,
Phew, mother left after speaking for a few minutes, so I shall continue with my tale from today.

The Lady stood before us, radiant as the sun, and my breath caught in my throat. I had never seen anyone who portrayed such a sense of power and wisdom, something I had truly never seen before. She looked at us and she seemed to be on a level higher than us, a being too proud for this earth..

She smiled at us warmly and spoke, her words flowing smoothly from her lips as she said that she knew why we were here, and she wished us luck in finding Zal's parents. Admitting that she couldn't help us all that much seemed to pain her, and she said that all she could tell us was that she had a vision on the 11th of a group of Neinian that she didn't recognize pulling away from Tsoacki, with a large covered cart behind them, gliding off into the forest with nary a sound.

The Lady must have noticed Zal and my confused looks when she mentioned the Neinan, so she gave us a brief explanation, that the Neinian are very similar to Tsoa, with a few differences, their skin is pure red compared to the skin of a Tsoa, which is a pale blue colour. Another difference is that Tsoa all have dark blue eyes, whereas the Neinian look rather disturbing with white eyes...they have a black ring, then white inside that, and then the pupil.

Also the history is different. While the Tsoa came and settled in what became known as Tsoacki, a vast peaceful land with many trees and an abundance of sunlight, the Neinian chose a different path. The Neinian delved deeply underground, building vast caverns underneath a dark, dense forest.

Many of the Neinian were friendly with the Tsoa, and the Lady knew their people well, but there were a few who harboured resentment for the Tsoa for reasons yet unknown, and the Lady seems to think it was some of these Neinian that might have something to do with the disappearance of Zal's parents.

Now all Zal and I have to do is figure out what to do about it...well, we decided we would have to sleep on it and gather up food and clothing, prepare for a possible trip to Neina.

Dear Journal,
I'm really nervous. I've never left Tsoacki before, and I've never talked with any of the Neinians in my life. Yet Zal came to me this morning and insisted that we go to Neina and find his parents, he's so worried for them..

Not that I'm not...I've just never left Tsoacki...I don't know what awaits us..

Yet I must go with him. I shall bring you with us dear journal, but I must take my leave to finish packing my goods for the trip, the preparations are almost complete and Zal is talking with my mother now and explaining it all to her. I do not look forward to talking with her after packing, I am sure to be smothered...

Farewell, dear journal, and goodbye to Tsoacki.

Angos 14, 4324 S.A.
Dear Journal,
Well, we travelled far today, and a guide from Tsoacki went with us to show us how to get to Neina. Mother was the one that charged him with that task, although I have a feeling that she probably was doing it also to make sure that Zal and I had a chaperone on our little escapade. Whatever the reason, we were grateful to have him along. Kadske, I think his name was.

We reached the outskirts of the Neina forest without anything happening, but pulling up to that forest just filled me with a sense of utter dread. I couldn't believe that we were actually here, so far away from Tsoacki and so close to Neina..this would be an experience, that was for sure. I looked around and saw naught but a mouse skittering across the field, and for some reason that calmed my spirit slightly, and with a deep breath I was ready to plunge into the forest.

Zal, Kadske, and I went into the forest, each of us laden with heavy bags containing all of our provisions, food, flasks for water, our clothes, and as many weapons as we could carry and conceal in our bags. I had a small curved dagger as well as a short sword, and Zal and Kadske each carried a bow, curved dagger, and long sword. We were, hopefully, prepared for any small ambush by animals, although we were unsure as to what would happen if we were attacked by any of the Neinian.

As we trudged through the labyrinth of trees, shrubs, stumps, and many roots sticking out here and there, we came to the occasional signpost pointing the direction to Neina, for which we were grateful, as otherwise we would have been hopelessly lost.

Now we are sitting in a small clearing in the forest, which actually appears to be quite pleasant, birds flying around and chirping as the sun streams in through the treetops, and we're eating our prepared lunch before continuing onwards. Kadske thinks we're not too far from Neina, although he says it has been a long time since he has visited there.

Well, we're off again, so I'll update again tonight, journal.

Dear Journal,
We arrived in Neina today, and we didn't get the welcome that I had expected. I was so afraid that we would be shunned and scorned when we arrived, that they would automatically hate us when we stepped into their domain. It apparently had slipped my mind that the Lady said that the majority of them were nice and a lot like us, and it was only the few that hated the Tsoa.

We were greeted warmly at the gates to the caverns, which slowly sloped down until they were completely underground. Then two guards showed us to the location where we would be able to speak with their Lord, and tell him the reason that we had arrived in his realm. I swallowed nervously, but the guards assured me that the Lord was very pleasant to be around and wholeheartedly welcomed Tsoa visitors.

I breathed a sigh of relief and we headed into the Royal Hall, and the Lord appeared before us. I curtsied as well as I could considering the fact I was wearing pants, and Zal and Kadske bowed before him. The Lord motioned for us to get up and come sit at the table, so we did, and he asked us for our reason that we strayed into his realm.

Zal summed up the reason and explained our predicament, and the Lord nodded sadly. He shook his head and told us that he knew that none of his people had done it since no one had left for Tsoacki within the past few days, but that he had noted the cart that the Lady had spoken of travelling on the outskirts of the realm of Neina (yet still within the Neina forest) carefully avoiding the border guards and going deeper into the forest.

He requested that we stay the night and get some rest, and said that he would tell the chefs to prepare some travelling food for us that wouldn't weigh down our packs but would provide a good meal, some waybread, and some pieces of meat.

So now here I am, in the caverns of Neina, and I must say that I miss my home...I miss my mother. I miss looking out from my flet and seeing the trees, hearing the gleeful tones of the nightingale.

This is a worthwhile trek and I must stay strong though...so tonight I shall get a good night's sleep so I can be refreshed for the morning.

Dear Journal,
I slept so well last night, it was unbelievable. I was out like a light as soon as my head hit the soft and fluffy pillow. I woke up refreshed this morning and eager to continue on with the journey.

Once we had packed up all of our provisions, we continued on in hopes to find out what had happened to Zal's parents. Today's trek has been uneventful as of yet, and that is pretty much all that I have to report.

Although I must say that the Neinians gave us some yummy travelling food. Food is good. That is all.

Dear Journal,
I am getting worried. We have stopped for the night as the sky has grown dark and cloudy, but I do not think it can be that late as it did not feel like we had travelled that far. It is raining now, and huge gusts of wind are blowing through the trees, as well as the crackle of lightning and the boom of thunder evrey few seconds. The sky is lit up in turmoil, the same turmoil I have in my head at this moment.

This cave we have found for shelter does not give me the feeling of security that it should, I do not feel safe here. It's almost an impending feeling of doom, I keep worrying that we will be found by the ones that took Zal's parents, that someone will take us too.

The cave is cold and clammy, and we are all huddled together for warmth. Luckily the Neinians had the foresight to pack some blankets for us, although they are not that heavy as they had to fit in our packs. They are what is keeping in the little body warmth that we have. I cannot believe that the weather could change this quickly over such a short period of time.

The lands around here are so barren, I haven't seen any animals at all this afternoon, everything has been silent. The trees are starting to thin as we get deeper into the forest, which gives me the opinion that maybe the trees are just a ring around a barren center.

We hope to arrive at the outlaw village tomorrow, although we are, as of yet, unsure of a course of action once we arrive there. The hope is that we can just try and negotiate for Zal's parents, yet I think that is probably a very unlikely situation. Most likely we will be captured ourselves before the day is over tomorrow.

If I can, I shall update tomorrow..

Dear Journal,
They found us last night...huddled in that cave, near frozen, and took us to their village. We are now in an underground cavern, and I don't know what is going to happen to us.

Every few minutes there's this unnatural growl coming from somewhere in this cave, I just can't distinguish where, it gets closer everytime. I would run away, but my feet are chained to the floor. They took all weapons from our packs and then set them just far enough away so that we could not reach them. We are trapped here.

There are bones everywhere, and I think my feeling of doom was a righteous one...

Well, in a while we'll know what happened to Zal's parents, the outlaws said they stood where we now stand, and that they died the same death we will..

Please, outlaws, send this home to Tsoacki for me...send a message to my mother for me...she must be worrying and I don't want her to come looking for me...please...

It's getting closer..

WARNING

To the good citizens of Tsoacki:
A message was recieved today from the outlaw Neinians, stating that they have sacrified five of our good citizens recently to Akocka, a violent beast that they found when they delved underground and that they now keep in their caverns to deal with captives. This is a warning to all citizens not to venture out to the forest, and if you must go visit Neina, go there and come straight back. Our hearts go out to the families of these five Tsoas, may Jaku bless you. We think of you constantly. Zaleal, Shariel, Kadske, Michenti, and Torkan will be remembered in a ceremony tonight, all are welcome to attend and express their sorrow.

Signed:
The Lady of Tsoacki
