He'd been able to obtain three different poisons from his search among the students. They had his thanks for being such good sports about it that was for sure, donations in exchange for little trinkets. It had been a good plan it would seem.
He'd gotten first a test kit from a Labtech to test the purity of water it would be doing the same job as what Etain would be attempting. At least half of it. The other half of the class was the boy finding the poisons that needed purifying.
He had on the table before him ten cups of water, labeled 1-10. In a couple of them were the poisons a few drops of each to cotaminate the water so that he would have to actually chose which one he believed they were in. Six cups had the poisons in them and four were poison free and pure. It would be up to the boy to figure out which was which using the powers that were inate to his species. Then once that was done he would then be able to try to purify the ones that had the poisons in them. Should prove to be an interesting class.
Just in case though he had antivenoms on hand.

The uncompromising, linoleum surface of the hallway's floor was a little off putting. Etain scuffed at it with the soles of his sandals as Tovar half-led, half-dragged him down the hall.
"Tovar, can't we just go to the park instead?" He asked, crooking back his head to peer up at the man.
"No, you're -- don't you want to take a nice, fun class? It'll be like coloring but...better!" Tovar, in actuality, had no idea what on earth was planned for Etain. He looked at the little boy a little crookedly, from the corner of his eye. Ah, here they were.
"What about the creek? Just the creek? That's just behind the house," Etain persisted, eyeing the door suspiciously.
"No, Etain," Tovar said with a sigh, nuding open the door gingerly and pushing Etain lightly inside, sliding in after the little unicorn.

Orpheus looked up from what he was doing, scribbling down some notes on the clipboard in front of him as the two arrived. He pushed up to his feet from his chair and walked over towards them, "Great, I just got everything set up for you." He said, looking down at Etain, giving him his normal, happy smile.
He then turned his attention to the one with him and held out a hand to Tovar, "Orpheus Solon." He introduced himself, "Skills teacher."

Etain hedged nervously but managed to offer the teacher a slight smile before his attention waned and wandered to examine the layout of the room, particularly the cups. Looked suspicious - he hoped he didn't have to drink alot of stuff or something. He'd just had lunch, and wasn't really thirsty...
Tovar took Orpheus' hand with a rote, but firm grip of his own, shaking it with the feeling of a man who was only just getting used to shaking hands quite as often as he found himself doing as of late. "Tovar Badeau. It's nice to meet you, isn't that right Etain?"
Etain shifted, still peering around Orpheus' hip toward the cups. "Yeah-huh -- hey, Mr.? What're those?"

"It is good to meet you and Etain as well, you can stay for the class if you like or take the time to do as you like. It won't be a really long, drawn out class and hour at the very most so it is up to you." He told the man.
Orpheus looked over towards the table, "Those cups are going to tie into the skills that we are going to work on today. Do me a favor though and don't drink any of them. I fear it wouldn't turn out well." He said to the unicorn boy before walking over towards them motioning for him to follow.

Nodding, Tovar loosened his fingers from around Etain's vastly smaller hand. "In that case, I'll go ahead and go then; errands to run, and all that. -Etain, you'll be alright if I leave, won't you?" The little boy didn't particularly seemed to mind the room, and he hadn't taken an obvious dislikie to Orpheus like he did to some people (Tovar still hadn't figured out quite why...).
Etain nodded, chewing slightly on his lower lip as he let his hand fall back to his side. He immediately began tinkering with his bracelet. "Okay, b-bye Tovar."
Smiling, the man quickly excused himself, leaving the two alone in the classroom.
Etain fidgeted, eyeing Orpheus and the cups sideways in turn. "Not supposed to drink 'em," he repeated quietly, more as if to remind himself than anything else. "What are you supposed to do with 'em then?" Maybe they were super secret stuff to put in magic potions, like what Michael used. Michael didn't usually drink out any of those cups, so maybe this was the same thing.

Orpheus looked at them, "Well I was reading over the skills that unicorns have and can learn. The ones that we decided to work on toward were 'Detect Poisons' and 'Purify'." He told him, "In front of you in some of these cups are the poisons, some are just water. Its up to you to decide which are which." Since it was an innate thing with Etain's kind he wouldn't be able to exactly describe how he was supposed to tell the two cups apart. Maybe it would something he would just feel?
He had the cups labeled and written down on his notes which number went to which poison or if it were just water. The best that he could do was watch and see whether or not Etain could pick them out. The more he found that contained the poisons in them without mixing up a water the better. That meant that he knew what he was looking for instead of guessing at random.

Listening carefully,Etain eyed the different cups on the table warily. Poison? That...didn't sound like something he should really be messing with, but he guessed if this guy said it was alright... - He glanced sideway to Orpheus, long ears flicking thoughtfully back and forth, his poof-ended tail swaying in a similar fashion. "Alright," he said at least, before moving to the table. His fingers found the edge of it, followed by his chin.
Etain spent some time eyeing the different cups and their contents, peering over the colors thoughtfully. Some of them didn't look too nice, and some of them were weird colors, but he had the feeling that Orpheus had probably done stuff to the water so it looked suspicious too. Otherwise, it would have been easy to guess what was water and what wasn't. "Er," he said, lifting one of his hands in a habitual manner. He chewed briefly at the side of one of his fingers. "W-what should I do? Just...look at 'em and tell you the numbers or somthin'?"

"I'm not exactly sure. Innate abilities are things harder for me to help my students to learn since its not something I can show them how to do." He explained, "Swimming, climbing, running, that sort of thing I'm good at. Now magics like this... are a little above me. Maybe you will sense something, a feeling that something isn't quite right?" He suggested.
Maybe there was something that the unicorn would feel was different between the poison and the water?

Etain blinked at him for a few seconds before slowly turning his lamplike brown eyes back on the cups. He poked one of them warily, in no way indicating it was poison or water - just to poke it.
Hmm. This was...weird. It was just cups of stuff - how was he supposed to tell what these things were? Sure, the colors were different and the thickness of the liquid varied, but... Frowning hard, Etain hooked his chin on the edge of the table and stared at the cups, eyes squint, jaw jutting out forward in a marked sense of both determination and utter confoundment.
Maybe it was the green ones... -- No, he told himself, the colors probably don't matter. Etain squint his eyes shut for a few seconds, fidgeting slightly and drumming his fingers on the edge of the table near where he'd propped his chin.
Come to think of it though, something did feel a little wrong. Not quite the itchiness or the skin-crawling sensation he got when there was a wrongness about people, but still definitely... Off. Etain poked open one eye, looking up and down the row of cups.
"That one?" he asked, jabbing his finger uncertainly at the fourth cup. "A-and...maybe that one on the end, too."

Orpheus watched closely as the boy worked wishing that there was more that he could do more him then just offer up suggestions. Maybe this sort of class would have been easier for someone like Raven? He shook his head not wanting to admit to himself that maybe she would have been a better choice, that would make him seem a bit useless wouldn't it?
He watched as Etain sudden decided what he believed to be two of the six tainted cups. Orpheus lifted the top page on the clipboard to look to see the numbers of the cups to see what they contained, "Alright! Nice. Number Four contains the venom I got from my son and number ten contains some dragon acid." He said as he moved those two cups out of the way.
Remaining were still eight cups, four of which still containing poisons.

Etain straightened slightly, puffing up in a small, almost unnoticeable fashion. Pride, and a little excitement that he'd guessed it right. Some little part of him said it wasn't guessing, not really, but for the most part that was all he could equate it to. His ears pricked and his lion-like tail flicked absently in pleasure. He was doing good; Tovar would be proud of him, at this rate! Etain kept his chin carefully hooked on the edge of the table and made an attempt to replicate whatever it was he'd done before that had made him see -- sense? -- which cups had been poisoned and which were just plain old water.
There. Maybe those two... "What about...uhm," he paused, counting them. "The second one, and..." Oh bother, pointing was easier. Wordlessly, he indicated two other cups: the sixth and the seventh, respectively. He hesitated slightly, tail swaying uneasily back and forth. "And that one?" He pointed out the third cup.
"I-I think that's it." Carefully, Etain removed his chin from the edge of the table, looking to Orpheus expectantly.

He reached out to the second cup to pick it up and set it aside, "Ladybug venom." He read from the list that he had in front of him, as Etain couldn't see it he was sure that the boy was picking of his own accord. Deciding which cups he thought were the right ones through whatever sense that unicorn used, "Cobra Venom." Was in the sixth cup, "Dragon Acid." He said pointing to the seventh cup and then the final cup... he blinked almost surprised that he'd gotten one wrong, "This one is water though."
Maybe he got them mixed up since it was pressing against another of the cups? He looked at his list, the one it was leaning against did contain poison so that could be it.
He moved those cups out of the way which left four cups, one of them being poison the last other ones being water.

Etain looked alarm, eyeing that cup of water hard. Wait, it was...water? He could have sworn if felt a little off... Biting his knuckle uncertainly, he backed a little from the table. Maybe he'd just been guessing on all the other ones too? Maybe it was just luck? He looked uncertainly back at Orpheus. This was serious, he thought. While neither of them seemed likely to go drinking anything in the cups... it was still dangerous to have poison disguised as water just sitting around! Or...or vice versa. Etain's tail lashed uneasily, back and forth, back and forth.
"Oh...so...so not the third one," he murmured, a little confused as he looked between the reamining cups. None of them really stood out in any way. He continued to nibble uneasily at his finger. "Uh...m-maybe it's that one, right there?" he offered uncertaintly, pointing to one of the few cups he hadn't motioned to before. "The one with a five on it. Er. Maybe."

Orpheus nodded his head as he picked it up, "I think that it leaning against the other cup might have thrown you off a little in your picking." He said as he looked over the last cup that had the last bit of poison in it, the Lady Bug Venom. He set it with the other cups leaving behind the three that had water in them, "You did pretty good, only one mix up that was partially my fault." He should have spaced them a bit better.
He wrote something down quickly on his clip board, a note about the mix up and what he thought the cause of it could have been resulted from, "Now lets see. The last part of the class ties in with an ability to purify." He said, checking his notes over, "From what I gather your power to do something like that ties in with your horns." He said, clearing all of the cups out of the way aside from one that contained venom, "Touching the tainted water with the horn it says is what is supposed to get rid of the poison."
This information he'd taken from a book he read on that subject, again not something he could help with persay but had his kit from the lab that he could use to test the water after the boy tried to rid it of the poison to see if it worked.
