*EDIT* ******** you, Showtime! I found the episode on youtube.com, in seven 10-minute increments. Here is the link to part 1, if you are interested: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YmerjYfF5zc&mode=related&search=
Hurry up and watch it before it gets flagged. But be warned. The acting is far scarier than the show. And to be quite honest with you, it wasn't nearly as scary or disturbing as I thought it would be (maybe I'm just jaded from all the horror movies I've watched ever since I was a kid.) It isn't for the squeemish, however. It contains incest, child molestation, spousal abuse, torture, murder, a deformed, androgynous midget with a rooster on his/her head, and a talking hand growing out of some woman's head. Oh, and the characters are pretty much up to their eyeballs in aborted fetuses. All in all, I didn't think it was really all that bad. I assure you, I shall sleep soundly tonight. with all the lights on...

Now on to the original post!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I was reading the latest issue of Fangoria recently, a magazine dedicated to horror movie connoisseurs, and there was an article about a show on Showtime called "Masters of Horror." That show was my favorite, I used to watch it all the time...well, until the cable company learned about my illegal black box and I stopped getting that channel. sweatdrop Anyways, This particular article was talking about an episode that was banned in the U.S., and it will only be available on dvd in September. The episode in question was directed by Takeshi Miike (known for such crazy s**t as Audition and Ichi the Killer) and was described by one of the show's creators as, "the most disturbing film I've ever seen." My interest piqued, I realized I couldn't possibly wait until September to find out what was so damned disturbing about this episode, so I enlisted the help of the internet.
Apparently, the episode entitled "Imprint" is about some American journalist who goes to Japan in search of some woman he fell in love with. He ends up on some creepy-a** island surrounded by the fetid corpses of pregnant women floating in the water, and learns from some deformed prostitute that his woman is dead. Thus begins the search to discover how she died while also trying to find out what's going on on this ******** up island. Some of the issues that are dealt with in this episode are incest, prostitution, killing, torture, yada yada yada. The reason this episode was pulled? A disturbing, gory abortion scene.
Does anyone else but me find this to be somewhat hypocritical? On this same show, there was an episode entitled "Jenifer", which has a scene in which the deformed, monstrous title character eats a small child. It's pretty graphic, too. The hero walks into the blood-spattered room to find Jenifer bent over the half-eaten remains of the little girl she encountered earlier in the episode...the little girl was cut in half black Dahlia style, with her organs and spine spilling out of her. It was pretty sick, yet this episode had no problem being aired.
You know something else? "Imprint" was shown in the U.K. without a problem, and it is going to have a theatrical release in Japan. Why is the U.S. so squeemish about this subject matter, especially when you take into account the fact that far more grotesque things are shown on t.v. all the time (*coughflavoroflovecough*)? And why, for that matter, are other countries not so uptight about it? And what the ******** happened to that whole "freedom of speech" thing? Alright, so it's a gross and disturbing episode. Guess what? It's a HORROR show! I don't know about you guys, but when I want to watch a horror movie, I expect there to be gallons of blood, mountains of dead bodies, and s**t so disturbing it gives me nightmares. That's what the genre is all about. scream
Anyways, please discuss how America has a stick up it's a** when it comes to abortion, and how much cooler other countries are in comparison. If you would like to watch a trailer of "Imprint", click here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OyR5xyLuuw
Duuuuuuh!
It's anti-choice here, USA. They'll only care about the kid as long as it's unborn...
Who cares about the poor little girl tortured and eaten alive like that when there's a POOR INNOCENT FETUSSSSSS GETTING ABORTED! gonk I mean, seriously. It's obvious that babies are only 'sacred' when in the womb.
Wait, wait. It was a brutal, gory abortion? Wouldn't they want to show that, to show how "eeeeevil" abortion is?
The teen show Degrassi had an episode pulled from the US stations [it's a Canadian show] because a girl got an abortion. They can show sexuality, pregnancy, rape, murder, but not abortion.
They finally released the episode for the first time [two years after it was originally out] a few weeks ago.
If you want to see some more creepy stuff, see "Dumplings". That's an intriguingly creepy story about this woman who eats "dumplings"....made of .....dead fetuses! It's supposedly this old wive's tale to become younger and more beautiful.
It's creepy and interesting at the same time. I highly reccommend it.
What the ******** hell? Sure, they show a girl getting tortued and eaten with no problem, they show mangled bodies on Court TV, they show guys getting their dicks cut off, and they show the english dub of One Piece (Sorry if you like the show, but I can't stand anything dubbed by 4Kids) with no problem, but when abortion's in the plot of a really good show/movie, they don't allow it. I can see the conversation now.. (WARNING: Contains The Hills Have Eyes references. Very gory, according to my sister.)
Producer of film: "This movie has girls being tortured and raped..."
FCC: "Good, good."
Producer: "It has men being castrated by mutants, then burned alive."
FCC: "Sounds cool."
Producer: "It has birds having their heads ripped off and the guts being eaten."
FCC: "Ooh, we gotta see that!"
Producer: "And one important part in the movie is the abortion--"
FCC: "ZOMG!!!! NOT THE BABIEEESSSS!!!!! We're not showing that horrible movie! Gee tee eff oh, n00b!"
Producer: "But it cost 21 million dollars to make--"
FCC: *unleashes the hounds*
I let my imagination get the best of me at times...
Dead fetuses in dumplings!? But the lifers always told me they went down the garbage disposal! xp
Seriously though, if you recommend it then I'll have to go rent it. I read about Three Extremes in Fangoria, and wasn't really interested. I've watched quite a few Japanese horror films in my time, and I must say that they haven't exactly wowed me. But if you say it's good, I'll trust you. 3nodding
See, in America the majority's beliefs supercede Constitutional rights (except those of the majority). See: pretty much all censorship; South Park; Degrassi: The Next Generation.
Comedy Central? Y'all are a bunch of ******** pussies. You can air a talking piece of s**t, Courtney Love rambling her intoxicated a** off, and giant talking DOUCHES, but when some Catholics start pissing and moaning you're sucking the Pope's c**k. Thanks a lot, jerks.
What really annoys me? This is on SHOWTIME. So, now people are PAYING for censorship! ******** cows...
I actually did my senior thesis paper on Takashi Miike's "Gozu" and Freudian Dream analysis.
Did pretty well on it too. Heh.
I would have to say that "Three Extremes" was very well done. Make sure it's subtitled by someone who is more "true" to the movies. The three of the stories have some cultural references in them, and I was quite impressed with all three of the stories in "Three Extremes".
Also, I suggest "Visitor Q" if you really want to see some extreme violence and sexual perversion. Also, "Audition". Amazingness.
Your tellin' me. I love the horror genre. I've been fed heaping helpings of horror ever since I was five years old thanks to my dad and his love of the Friday the 13th, Halloween and Nightmare on Elmstreet films (much to my mother's chagrin), and I feel that horror is supposed to scare, disgust and disturb you. That's exactly what Miike intended to do with "Imprint", and I don't like the idea that Showtime's horror-loving customers are shelling out good money so their favorite shows can be censored. Thankfully, the episode will be available on dvd, but it's still not right.
Oni-Angel: I went out and rented 3 Extremes, and was thouroughly impressed with "Dumplings." Does the fact that I was getting hungry while watching that woman eat the fetus-filled dumplings make me a bad person? sweatdrop
