It was a bright, beautiful day in the jungle. The sound of some jungle birds could just be heard over the sound of the waterfall, and the sun was high in the sky without a cloud. And on this fantastic day, Kijibwa was sleeping, curled up contently near the water. He was blissfully unaware of anything in his surroundings, not even trying to sleep lightly. This lion had the confidence to take a nap without worry. And nap he did, snoring quietly.

Oh, if only Siku could've enjoyed this peaceful afternoon with Kijibwa, it would've been the perfect afternoon. Instead, the horrible unease was acting up within her again, causing her to wake from the peaceful nap. Laying by the edge of the waterfall, she watched the rippling pool, trying to forget just how uncomfortable she really was. Eyes falling to her own reflection, she stared for a moment, blinking.
She wasn't that fat before. Had she put on weight? Frowning at her image, Siku stood up, deciding that it was her current position. Turning slightly, she watched her reflection, not able to shake the feeling she was larger. Grumbling, she immidiately set it as a side affect of the unease, turning back to watch Kiji. He'd be able to tell if something was wrong, but... he was enjoying his nap so much. Sighing, her gaze held on him for a moment, before turning back to the pool. Atleast Kiji was enjoying his afternoon.
Some time passed, Siku debating on the situation, whether it was fair to assign the blame to her own discomfort or not. How had she gotten so fat, if she really was?! It made no sense! Sure, she'd been eating a little more lately, but not enough to bloat her this badly! And it hadn't even been that filling, anyway! Groaning loudly, she finally turned back to Kiji, unable to draw a conclusion on her own.
"Kiji!" She called, padding over uneasily, not enjoying the feeling of extra weight. Sitting a short distance away, she continued speaking.
"Do you think I'm fat?"

Kijibwa barely seemed to twitch when Siku got up from her own nap, his tail swished and he sighed in his sleep but nothing more. While she worried about how big she was suddenly, he was dreaming happy dreams and blocking out the sounds and smells of the jungle just enough to keep dreaming these happy dreams. When Siku called his name loudly, though, his ear twitched in response and turned towards her.
His eyes opened and he stared forward at the blurry waterfall in front of him. He'd heard her question, but he hadn't understood it in his half-sleeping state. With a couple blinks to clear his vision, he turned to look at the lioness and tilt his head.
"What?" he asked, looking at her. He hadn't really noticed any change in her physique, behavior or appetite- he wasn't really watching for anything of that nature. Siku had changed a lot in their time together, why would he notice small things like that?

Gesturing toward her stomach with a nod of her head, Siku grumbled.
"Do you think I'm fat?" She asked, watching him intently. She could see easily that she'd gotten bigger, but she wanted to know if Kijibwa could see it.
Or, it wasn't wanting to know, really. She knew he could see it, she could tell. This, really, was to see what his reaction would be when she brought it up. Then, too, she'd ask about her discomfort as of late. He might be able to give her a reasonable answer about that, having been around longer. Yes. Kijibwa would definately know. Smiling softly, her tail flicked, pleased she could ask Kiji about the things she didn't know. He did have an age advantage, and had seen much more of the world.
"Please. Be honest."

Kiji looked Siku square in the eye, almost afraid to look at her stomach. He was smart enough to know, even from the tone she used, that saying 'yes' wouldn't exactly be good. He started to shake his head, but two things held him back- one, Siku asked him to be honest and two, he couldn't lie to her. So he looked down to her stomach, squinting his eyes a bit to look carefully.
'What d'you know,' he thought, realizing she was looking a bit bigger- but only in her middle.
"Y-you're not fat, Siku," he answered cautiously, "You are a bit bigger, maybe.."

Scoffing, Siku glared angrilly to her own reflection, wishing she could assign the blame to the water. Grumbling under her breath, she skulked over to the water's edge, lying down and dipping her paw in. It still wasn't comfy, but, it'd have to do for now. Casting a glance back, she beckoned for Kijibwa to come join her, returning a dull watch to the waves.
"So," she started, in a monotone voice that seemed to lack emotion, "I am getting bigger." Sighing, she closed her eyes, as if lost in thought for a moment.
"And the worst part is, I can't think of any reason why.."

Kijibwa watched Siku growl at her reflection, frowning. He got to his feet and hesitated to walk over to her, until she lay down and called him over to her. The lion settled in next to his mate, licking her affectionately on the cheek in hopes of making her feel better.
"At least it's only your stomach," he murmured, not liking the emotionless voice she was using. Perhaps not getting over all bigger would be better than all of it? Suddenly, he leaned away from her and turned to blink at her stomach curiously- his mind did find it's way back to how he'd been looking there not too long ago.

"That's true.." She murmured with a sigh, not looking at Kji, though pleased he was here to rest beside her. Leaning onto him gently, her smile slowly returned, unable to stay angry around him. There was just something so mellowing about the way Kiji acted and spoke that, as she had told him, made her feel at home.
Opening her eyes slowly, she watched Kiji for a moment, a look of confusion passing her face. Pulling back, she stared at him disbelievingly, looking away toward the water.
"Y..you've looked at me like that before, Kiji. What is it?" She asked, desperate to get an answer from him this time.
"Please.. tell me."

Kiji continued to stare at Siku's belly. How could he get to this kind of conclusion before her? It boggled his mind, maybe he was just being crazy! Siku would know, she'd have to know. He thought back to recent events, and to Chachili's explanation. His blue eyes widened, and then he looked up at Siku.
Still, he felt she would know before him. "W-when I saw that Klipspringer, she had a big belly," Kiji muttered, "And she said it was because she had fawns in there.."

Blinking in confusion at Kiji's words, Siku looked down to her stomach, unsure of the word 'fawns'. She hadn't heard it before.. or, atleast, she didn't remember hearing it. Thinking back, she tried to remember anything that might be close to a fawn, unsuccesfully for some time.
Then, she remembered Colche. Eyes widening, she frantically looked over to Kijibwa, the realization hitting her hard.
"O..oh god, Kiji.. you really don't think I..I'm.." gulping, her eyes fell back to her stomach, shifting uneasily as she forced the words from her lips. It seemed too.. unreal..
"..pregnant..?"

When Kijibwa finished muttering, his eyes fell back to Siku's stomach and there they stayed. Even as Siku tried to piece the puzzle together, he stared, trying to figure it out for himself. His mind went over and over what Chachili told him. If it weren't for his fur, he might have turned red. He slowly stood up, though his head seemed left behind as he kept leaning down a bit to be eye level with her stomach.
"C-can't you tell?" he asked, his voice shaky. Surely Siku would know if there were cubs in there, wouldn't she?

Her mind definately hadn't crossed that, but, maybe the discomfort had been cubs? Little lions growing inside of her? Though she had been unsteady before, Siku was definately shaky now, and nearly lost her footing when the vision overtook her.
It was definately her, she soon realized, lying on the ground in her and Kiji's resting spot, a peaceful look across her face as Kiji entered the scene. She watched herself look up and smile happily, murmuring 'All three came safely, Kiji..' then turned to nuzzle the small creatures, only for the scene to fade. Dazingly, her attention snapped back to Kiji.. as he was now.
"...I..It's cubs." She whispered, eyes turning and locking into Kiji's. Standing, she weakly walked over and strained to rest her head on his shoulders, tears rolling down her cheeks. They weren't nessecarily in sadness, more in shock and fear of what was now to come.
"I..I'm having your cubs, Kiji.."

Kiji lifted his head to look Siku in the eyes when he didn't get an answer right away, he wasn't expecting a quick answer so it was more to comfort and encourage her. He gasped when Siku suddenly swooned and moved immediately to steady her, to make sure she didn't actually fall over. When he was sure she wasn't going to topple over, he turned and looked to her face and saw an expression he recognized there. She was seeing something..
"What?" he asked when she snapped out of it, "What was it?"
His expression remained unchanged as she confirmed their suspicions and came to lean on him. He nuzzled against her lovingly, worriedly. He didn't know exactly what to expect from this all. It didn't take long for his eyes to gloss over as well, his mood drew from hers and right now she didn't seem steady or comfortable..

"Kiji.. I.. I'm scared.." she whispered, finally grasping what scared her the most. It was not knowing what to do next. Sitting down, in order to help stable herself, she leaned against Kiji, looking into the waves of the pool absent mindedly. What was going to happen now? This.. this wasn't what she had expected to happen! Sighing, Siku closed her eyes, trying to will herself into relaxing.
"W..what're we going to do, Kiji..? What if I'm not ready for this..?" She asked, frightened of the idea of her own cubs. Why did nobody tell you it was going to be this horrifying..?

Kiji made a soft whining sound and snuggled closer to his mate. He wasn't exactly afraid, it seemed a rare thing for him to be afraid. Anxious was a better way to describe how he felt, he didn't know what to expect and that did cause some anxiety. If Siku hadn't expected it, it was nothing to how little Kijibwa expected such a thing to happen.
"Well, we'll figure it out," he murmured, resting his head on hers gently. His eyes were closed, rather than staring off into space. "Together, we'll figure it out together," he added, leaning bakc and licking her affectionately on the nose. Cubs wouldn't be too bad, right? They're lots of fun, if he remembers right! Of course, it's not him who has to carry them around and then push them out.
