Ever now and then I hear the UK people around here mentioning something called "Blue Peter". I have no clue what that means. Would anyone care to enlighten me? xp

It's been going for ages. I think it's called Blue Peter because of the ship they use as a sort of logo (which I assume is called The Blue Peter - though I might be talking rubbish here).
It's mentioned a lot around Doctor Who because they've always done pieces on Doctor Who and some of their old presenters had bit parts on Doctor Who as well. Lots of the Doctor Who DVDs have extracts from Blue Peter (like when Jon Pertwee drove his Whomobile round the studio).
It's an OK show as far as kids shows go. Lots of overly cheery adults embarressing themselves etc etc. I stopped watching quite awhile ago.

I miss Sesame Street! That was an awesome program. I dunno if it's still on over here... they re-did it I think since I watched it or something. And then they had all these weird spin-offs...

As has already been said, Blue Peter is a children's show over here in the UK. It was first broadcast on 16 October 1958, making it the longest running children's show in the world. The name came from a flag which was raised 24 hours before a ship left port, the thinking being that by watching the programme, children would be taken on a voyage of discovery.
I am the proud owner of a Blue Peter badge, as well...

Blue Peter is a children's show in the UK. Sort of like Sesame Street.
