Yesterday I was looking at some info about Judaism due to a post I saw in one of my Christian guilds (Firefall). I found that a lot of my belief systems fall under Judaism rather than Christianity. So I was wondering if anybody here practiced some Judaism or knew anything about it. I think I'm gonna look into it a little. I'm not sure if there's such a thing as being a Jewish-Christian but who knows..I don't!
Anyway, anyone know anything?

The closest thing to a Jewish Christian is a Messiahnic Jew. All I know about them is that they have beliefs that are similar to most other branches of Judaism, but they differ on the Jesus issue. Most Jews believe that the saviour has yet to come, and that "Jesus" was a false prophet; they believe that Jesus has yet to come. Messiahnic Jews believe that Jesus already came.

Also, Jews are supposed to be good with money... xp

That episode was so funny.

Anyway, here are a few sites I found on Judaism, they appear to be rather credible.

http://www.nextbook.org/books/categorypage.html?cat=religion - Appears to give good books for those interested in Judaism.

http://www.jewfaq.org/ - Appears to be a good place for those new to Judaism.

http://www.torah.org - Appears to be another good place for those interested in Judaism.

http://www.sacred-texts.com/jud/index.htm - Gives some Religious Texts from Judaism in online book form/Amazon Link form.

http://www.hermetics.org/ebooks.html - Check out the Kabbalah section - all books are in E-book form, you will need Adobe Reader for them.

You know what, you made me interested in Judaism, now I'm gonna have to add that to my list of things I'm studying. (Not that that's a bad thing, I personally love studying religions, all of them.)

I study the Qabbala, which is a branch of Jewish mysticism. Because of it's occult nature, it's looked down upon by many Jews and most Christians. But anyway, it was founded by some apocryphal books of the Torah (books that weren't included in it but still claim to be of divine influence in that religion). In the middle ages, a sort of Christian form of Qabbala emerged as well, though I find the purely Jewish form much more appealing.

I believe Christ was a man. I haven't seen miraculous things connected to his religion.... not like I've seen connected to Jewish Mysticism.

Thanks for the links, I'll have to check them out smile And you would add it to your list razz
As for the Qabbala, would that be the same as Kabbalah?

That's funky. No wonder Microsoft Word couldn't tell me how to spell it when I was using it in my scholarship. Hmmmm...

The difference between Kabbalah and qabbala would be the k/q and h.

The word has many different spellings, but no matter how you spell it, it is supposed to be pronounced "Ka-Ba-La". The reason it is seen spelled so many different ways is because of the way it is written in the original Hebrew words: קבלה

Back when the word first appeared in English, there was no standardised way of translating Hebrew letters to English letters. Sounds alone were translated. For that reason, the first letter, ק, could be written as Ka, Ca or Qa. And so on.

Another example... The Hebrew name of God is written: "יהוה" From these four letters can be made any of the following names, which are all names for God:

YHVH YHWH Yahweh Yahveh Yaveh Yaweh Jehova Jehovah Jahova Jahovah Yahova Yahovah Yahowah Jahowa Jahowah Yahavah Jahavah Yahowe Yahoweh Jahaveh Jahaweh Yahaveh Yahaweh Jahuweh Yahuweh Jahuwah Yahuwah Yahuah Yah Jah Yahu Yahoo Yaohu Jahu Yahvah Jahvah Jahve Jahveh Yahve Yahwe Yauhu Yawhu Iahu Iahou Iahoo Iahueh Jeshua, Yeshua, Yeshuah, Yehshua, Yehshuah, Yeshouah, Y'shua, Y'shuah, Jeshu, Yeshu, Yehoshua, Yehoshuah, YHVHShua, YHVHShuah, Yhvhshua, Yhwhshua, YHWHShua, YHWHShuah, Yhvhshuah, Yhwhshuah, Yahvehshua, Yahwehshua, Yahvehshuah, Yahwehshuah, Yawhushua,Yahawshua, Jahshua, Jahshuah, Jahshuwah, Jahoshua, Jahoshuah, Jashua, Jashuah, Jehoshua, Jehoshuah, Yashua, Yashuah, Yahshua, Yahshuah, Yahushua, Yahushuah, Yahuahshua, Yahuahshuah, Yahoshua, Yahoshuah, Yaohushua, Yaohushuah, Yauhushua, Iahoshua, Iahoshuah, Iahushua, Iahushuah, YAHO-hoshu-WAH

I bolded the ones you may recognise. Now you know their origin.

Very interesting. Can you tell me why Kabala is always pronounced the same but the various names of god are not? Just curious...

Wow. That's very insightful. Thank you. So, are there any practicing Jews in this guild? I recently checked out a book called "What I Wish My Christian Friends Knew about Judaism" and it's very interesting. I just found out there's about four different types of Jews (I think, Conservative, Orthodox, Reconstructionist, and Reform). It's pretty basic language so anyone just learning about Judaism could read and understand it without getting lost or confused. So far it seems like Judaism has some beliefs I wanna pick up on (despite my church hating me for myself already. They'd be thrilled(!!) to know I'm "going against" the Scriptures rolleyes ).
But I guess...well I think...I might be looking for the wrong thing. See...maybe this is wrong, maybe it's not, but there are certain beliefs in the Christian lifestyle that I just don't really wanna live by. Such as everyone being hypocritical and saying it's about love while they go out and persecute everyone else. Or...don't get all upset at me (I hope no one will) like, with the issue of sex, I think that if two people are strongly committed to each other and share a deep love for each other it's different than sex outside of marriage. Cuz the Bible always claims that to be lust. I disagree. Two people can have sex out of marriage with it being love instead of lust. It's just as possible as it is to have sex within marriage and it being lust instead of love.
There's a lot of things I do and don't believe. But I can't find any belief system that agrees with me. Anybody able to help?

Well, I would first like to tell you, that you should not sitch religions simply because you don't feel like living up to one religion. You should switch religions if you feel that what the religion is teaching is wrong, or if you are not filled with a sense of happiness.

If you find no one religion that fits your beliefs, then you might have to do what I do. Mix religious beliefs.

Also, if you need any type of help, don't be afraid to ask, I will certianly try to help.

Well my main reason for searching is because I no longer feel what I supposedly believe in is right. And being surrounded by people who profess the belief and then act against what they profess yet condemn those who don't act like them to make it all the worse. I'm not happy with "my" beliefs at all because of the way people are treating it, because of the way I feel more empty than complete by believing it, and because it's being forced upon me. So I would have to say that I really am not filled with a sense of happiness at all.
Thing is, I still believe there is a God. I still believe He forgives us. I just don't really think that He's really watching out for our best interest. I don't believe He's there when He's supposedly "trying" people because I know a lot of people who fall due to these trials and if God wants to test us and make sure we're stronger in Him why would He try us to the point of leaving the faith? Why, if He's so good, does He let Satan corrupt the lives of His children and doesn't get them out of the struggle when they need help? I've been going through a crapload of pain and bad events for the past three years, two of which I've been Chrsitian. But I find that since I became a Christian things have just gotten worse. And when I pray I feel like He's shutting me out on purpose, like I don't belong.
So I just wanna find something where I can feel like I'm not shunned. Where I can believe what I want and be happy. Knowing that the people with my beliefs won't shun me and feeling like I'm finally on the right path with God. Cuz the longer I stay a Christian the more I feel like everything is wrong.
Maybe this all sounds idiotic. I don't know.

As a Gnostic Christian (Perticularly Valentinian) and a Student of Jewish Kabbalah and Jewish/Christian Mysticism, I would recommend looking into Jewish Kabbalah and Jewish Mysticism. The Books of Enoch and The Sephir Yetzira and the Zohar are all great works of Jewish Mysticism.
