Well I weigh around a hundred pounds, and freeze arrows kick my butt. sweatdrop
My friends told me when I started playing DDR a few months ago that it's because I'm so light the pad won't register me as well (I also get this problem with arrows not registering when I'm moving really fast). Now that I'm starting to learn and play Heavy songs, the arrows-not-registering and freeze-arrows-not-freezing factors are starting to affect me a lot more.
I play at my Uni's student union where I've observed people stomping the crap out of the pad gonk but my heavier friends seem to have no problem getting the arrows to register. So I'm wondering -- is it the pad, or should I learn to apply my weight better? And if so, any tips?

I have a problem with freeze arrows too. D:
It could possibly be that the machine you're playing on is worn out (from all the stomping, I'd imagine), so it's not registering your steps as well.
I can't think of how you'd apply your weight better. I mean, I weigh more than you, and even when I press down on freeze arrows as hard as I can, then they still usually flicker off and I get an NG.
This is probably an obvious tip, but if you just play in your socks, it might help to wear shoes.
Stomping on the machine wont help, especially on Heavy songs. It'll just tire you out, and wear out the machine.

Have you noticed if it's a particular arrow that's giving you trouble? Maybe the up arrow or left arrow. If it is just one then it might be that there is a bad sensor.
A good way of checking is between songs push on each corner of the arrow and see if it lights up. If when you press on one corner and it doesn't light up that means one of the sensors is bad.

One time I tried playing in these faux-converses that had fuzzy cloth on the bottom instead of a regular You're probably right about the pad being a little worn. I'm glad I'm not the only person who has that problem with freeze arrows. ^^"

Weight can play a factor on worn out sensors. A lot of times people who are very small or just very slender don't cause that extra force needed for the sensor to go off. That can also be a reason why the people you've seen play just don't step regualarly on the sensors (although this can be Stomp syndrome as well). I'm a pretty big guy (6'2'') so my weight has always been enough on worn out machines, although I do still notice the performance hit. Take the advice from others first, check to see if you and others are having problems with certain arrows if not then maybe wear a backpack with a book inside.

Well, since it seems this sucker is getting the crap pounded out of it, and that you're a light girl, most likely. If I was you, try hitting the arrows just a bit harder. Experiment with pressure until you find something that works.

An idea just came to mind. This can wear down your legs a bit and its a solution for two freezes or jumps but if you can try shifting a majority of your weight into the leg you need to come down. Start off easy on this as it will keep you off your center of balance. Should take care of your weight problems until you put more weight on or until your sensors get repaired.

Sometimes when I play at home, the censors in my mats have shifted so I'll be technically doing a perfect job but I'll like get an extremely low score because of the stupid censors!!

If you play at the arcade you could use the bar to help out. Although......I use it to keep myself lighter on the arrows to be able to move quicker....As everyone has said so far, it's most likely the sensors. They just need to get replaced. At your Student Union? Where is this? eek

Well...I have the same problem with freeze arrows...and I also weigh like in between 100-110 pounds. Freeze arrows I normally disable. That's what I would do if I were you.

I have the opposite problem... I am perhaps too heavy lol. As a result I am a bit slower than my twiggy-figured counterparts, but I make up for it in coordination smile The freeze arrows are usually not an issue for me, except when my legs are getting tired and I step with just my tiptoes.
