Our assignment for comp. was to read the introduction which is 23 pages....oh...my...gawd. BORING! Its reading about reading. gonk The print is a little small and single spaced and no pictures so it feels like 50 pages. crying Geology wasn't that great to read either. stare
So how about you other collage students (currents or past), what are your book woes...SHOOT...I just remembered I have to get another TWO for The Art and Craft of Theatre. gonk
So anyway, how about it?
Oh and my cost was about $160.

I nearly made a post about this the day before yesterday. I spent $600 on books at the college bookstore. gonk
But my books for my major (English) are Norton anthologies and others like those, so I'm pretty good. I can't say I'm too fond of the math book, but I can't complain when I'm FINALLY in college algebra. It only took me four prep courses ...

Reading a book on Bush's foreign policy is absolute torture. Wrist-slitting is less painful.
I've kept a lot of my textbooks over the years. My favorites are probably Abnormal Psychology and Ancient Egyptian Magic.

dark_elf With one of two of our comp books we payed $15 and can sell it for $2. gonk I know. It's ridiculous. You pay around $100 for a book and when you sell it back to the campus bookstore, all you get is $20. The most amusing instance of this was when I had a paperback copy of The Decameron (most boring book ever). I think it was like $12, but it only sold back for 25 cents!

It truly is "effed up" to spend all that money in addition to pay for school as well.
I read a newspaper article about some college or university opting to provide free or low-cost textbooks to their students that are paid for by the ads printed within its pages. I don't know if I like having a Starbucks ad in my history book. We get enough advertisements thrown in our faces so I'm not sure if that's a worthwhile investment.

That's one thing I hate about going to the movie theaters now. Instead of wonderful film trailers, we're getting advertisements as well.

If I ever purchase a Stephen King novel and find some lame advertisement inside it for soda pop or some other nonsense, I swear I'll throw it across the room.

By the time I finish my course I will have bought a grand total of 2 books. Of course, I have to buy a bunch of other supplies so I suppose it evens out.
(I am a college student of course, but I'm taking a technical course so there isn't much reading)

Another thing I thought of. When I read a book for pleasure I read it fast. But with an assigned reading like from a textbook I read more slowly, and its not because I want to get the information. MAybe its like when you are excited about something or like doing something you move fast, but when you have to do something you dred, washing dishes at home for me, you move more slowly.
Speaking of washing dishes...in my cooking class I would happy wash the dishes. And for my TACO hours (Technical Area Credit Opinion) Heidi has me washing dishes before we put them away, and I don't mind. But at home I'll do most anything to get out of washing them. (this was off topic but its my thread so bleh to anyone who doesn't like it xp )
