what do you guys think about how the different kinds of astrology interact (ie Western, Vedic, Chinese, Native American, Mayan, etc) with each other? i haven't studied much besides Western, although i have some experience with Chinese and a little with Mayan. what about situations where they seem very contradictary (ie, i'm a Fire Tiger/Cancer)? do you think there could ever be a universal astrology that combined major concepts of all of the "important" astrological systems?

I read somewhere that western astrology is your personality. Eastern is your soul. I'm a Pisces/Snake... don't remember my element.

Oh, that's interesting. 3nodding I never heard that before. --- MST3Kakalina what do you guys think about how the different kinds of astrology interact (ie Western, Vedic, Chinese, Native American, Mayan, etc) with each other? i haven't studied much besides Western, although i have some experience with Chinese and a little with Mayan. what about situations where they seem very contradictary (ie, i'm a Fire Tiger/Cancer)? do you think there could ever be a universal astrology that combined major concepts of all of the "important" astrological systems? I don't know much about other Astrology types except Western and Chinese. I'm an Earth Snake/Taurus. That's the power of TWO earth elements. It makes me sound so boring(being mellow or subdued(can't think of the word I want)) even though most of the time I'm hyper. But after exploring my Natal Chart I've found out I have a Leo Moon, so I thank my Leo side for my hyperness. biggrin (yup, I got off-topic again. razz ) I think that when they contradict you get a mix, or just some parts of what the true sign is.

Aries/Fire Dragon/ 2 Ozomatli 1 Itzcuintli I possess traits from all of them to my knowledge. Triple Fire. Fire Dragon and Aries. I guess that would lead to my short-temper.

I personally think Chinese astrology is a bunch of crap. Most people math up perfectly with quite a few Chinese zodiac signs. Don't know much about other kinds of astrology though.

Sister Daedra I personally think Chinese astrology is a bunch of crap. Most people math up perfectly with quite a few Chinese zodiac signs. Don't know much about other kinds of astrology though. Me too. It basically says that everyone born in the same year is the same sign, and if you look around, there is just too much of a variety. confused My chinese sign doesn't suit me at all.

I'm a fire tiger. Tigers are meant to be outgoing, and fire is supposed to make them even more so. Yet, I'm one of the least outgoing people I know. I haven't looked into Chinese astrology too much, but the Chinese signs don't seem to correspond too well with their western 'equivalents' - the traits of each sign are completely different.

Chinese astrology, i read somewhere, was actually a personality study done by Confucious. He noticed that each year certain personality characteristics showed up and gave them each an animal to represent what traits were seen. But, he probably never took into account the nature vs. nurture. If ur a fire tiger, tiger being active and fire adding to that yet you experienced things in your life that sub dued you, then you're going to act in the way you've been grown up to act. I enjoy chinese astrology and years ago I would have said it was a bunk of crap too, but now that i'm a bit more grown up and breaking my shell I can see the traits that a tiger can posses. I have also have known that the western and eastern signs can influence the other's influence on a person. example: I'm quite serious when it comes to work (capricorn trait), but when I have free time to do whatever I want I becomed bored and desperate for action (tiger trait).

I agree that what happens in a person's life can have an effect on them that can't necessarily be predicted by astrology, but there hasn't been anything notable in my life to have made me particularly introverted. My chart in western astrology shows a great number of reasons for it, though (pisces moon and ascendant, four or five planets in the twelfth house). There may be something in Chinese astrology, I just haven't found it yet. I'm a fire tiger, but there just doesn't seem to be any tiger in me at all. I'm not a leader, not courageous, I don't seek control, I'm not magnetic, self posessed...the list goes on.

Well, do you know the hour of your birth? Or perhaps you have the positive attributes of your western sign yet the negative habits of ur eastern sign?
But as to the nurture part, I remember nothing of my childhood that was bad yet my mother tells me that she and my step-father fought often and I would escape to my room. I never remember fighting, but that would explain why I was so possessive of my room. So even though you may not remember an experience, it could still affect you.

I really don't think you should go around calling something crap if you don't know how it works neutral . It's nice to know that people go around ignorantly insulting your cultural heritage.
The chinese year animal sign thing is sorta like the horoscope stuff that you find on newspapers, it's been generalized. You can't exactly sum up 1/12th of the world in one short paragraph, same goes for everyone who was born in the year so and so.
I'm chinese, so I have a little knowledge of this stuff. I don't know much though, since I'm not really into chinese astrology myself.
Basically, there's this thing called "Ba Zi", which literally translates into "Eight Words". You have a string of 8 characters that symbolize the time of your birth, like the year/month/week/day/hour/minute and something else I forgot. Like western astrology, you have to be very precise with the time of your birth. Each year/hour/week/thing is "ruled" by a different animal and element and so on. As you can see, it actually DOES go beyond those stupid yearly zodiac descriptions :'D.
Also, you have those chart things as well. From what I've seen, the charts are in the shape of an octagon. You have the stars lined up on different sides I think O.o~ there is also an aspect system I believe. That's all I know gonk .
My mom was really into this thing a couple years ago, and she was looking at charts for everyone else, though I didn''t really care since I didn't know what she was doing xd . I might have to get around to asking her about this when I have time.

could you? that would be really interesting!
all i know about the chinese zodiac is from my feng shui book, which only went as far as to explain the year signs, as well as the different element cycles (ie, Metal Dragon as opposed to Wood Dragon). other than that i really have no idea.
