What's your stance on horror movie remakes. Good Idea or bad? There are some that should have been left alone, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Hitcher (in production), Psycho etc.

I beleive that the GOOD originals should be left alone, aka: all the ones you've mentioned but along with the other good horrors. Now if it was the remake of a crappy horror done BETTER, then the whole remake thing would be a good idea. It all depends on what is being used to remake.

Yeah, I definately agree with Vinessa, they can be good and they can be bad. For instance: I probably wouldn't see a remake of The Shining, because I mean seriously, Jack Nicholson is perfect as Jack and it would just be wrong without him.
But sometimes there can be really good remakes. Not that I've seen one, but I know they must be out there ...

Movies that should have been left alone - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Haunting, Night of the Living Dead, House on Haunted Hill, House of Wax, and others that I can't think of at the moment.
I have recently learned that they are making a The Hills Have Eyes remake. With that movie, they could make it better as the original wasn't that good.
Another remake (sort of) that I learned abotu is a prequel to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake. I hope no one ever sees it.

The Fog is getting a remake. It'll probably get a PG-13 rating.

I know that nobody is going to mention this, but uh.... Good remake, no? I do agree though that right now the horror remake trend is getting out of hand. By the way, does anybody know if this guy is still the top choice for the role of Ash in the planned Evil Dead remake?

*chimes in with the general consensus* Good movies should be left well enough alone. Bad movies should be remade.
The one movie I would really like to see remade isn't horror at all so I won't start ranting about it.

My oppinion on horror remakes is the same as my oppinion about sequals and regular remakes. I am all for them. Sometimes they are good and sometimes they suck. Thats the luck of the draw...but if they do suck it isn't like they "ruined" anything.
Everyone is always complaining about how this sequal or this remake has ruined the movie. Which makes no sense at all. Just because the remake sucked a** doesn't automatically make the original crap.

I don't think remakes should ever be made. If the original is bad, let it be bad. It should be left well enough alone and people should just concentrate on making something original. If they really have to remake it they should just have a new title for it. It's obviously going to be different if the first one was bad. I hate remakes with a passion.

I believe those films that are being transferred from one culture to another could be remade for western society if they thing it will work. So far, my experience of such - that experience being the Ring movies - imply that culture crossovers should not be touched because they end up as crappy dumb downs. I have yet to see Battle Royale western style, but I don't think it could ever be as good as the original, unless they get cooler weapons.

Imagine a world where George W. Bush declares himself Emperor by 2008, where the leader decides to destroy all chances of the youth developing a sense of unity and trust by creating a program which forces the children to betray one another in order to save themselves......avoid the MPAA and hope the film could get a few screenings in art house theaters..... It can be done; the only real problem is the dialogue from the original film. Read the subtitles aloud someday; the lines sound really bland, don't they?

Texas Chainsaw Massacre at least gave a little of that as did Dawn of The Dead, however I totally agree that the 1998 version of Psycho was a total waste of celluloid , I mean , why not Colorize Hitchcock * screams in terror at his own thought lol * I just think that if you want to re-do a film , make it good. btw Everyone know about George Romero's new one Land of The Dead ..

I think Ichi the Killer may be considered as well.... doubtful though.

Just remembered this one, too: I don't care what you say; David Cronenberg is cool (not as cool as David Lynch, but still pretty cool)
