The meals in the cafeteria suddenly had very little appeal, but after a meal she'd more-or-less had to force down, imagining it was a lot more freshly killed and horrifying herself for the thought, Cassidy had retreated out to the jungle, and coiled herself up on a sturdy low branch of a favourite tree of hers. Suddenly, it seemed a lot easier to climb, despite her lack of hands, and a lot easier to get comfortable, without legs and torso to get in the way. She had settled herself with her wings folded, birdlike, against her sides, and part of her in the bright, hot sun and part in the cool shade. She was more than a little dozy, as she tended to get after a meal, and gazing blankly and unblinking off into space, thoughts roiling around in her brain.
Occassionally her tongue would flick, and that was almost the only movement she made.

Amaya had been panicking around he duplex for long enough, and decided that the only cure she could think of for her... "scale condition" was basking. The patches around her eyes and on the back of her legs, arms, and back seemed to be getting more and more yellow. Yet she still had no idea what was causing it.
She felt fine! Peachy even. Though tiny things had been getting on her nerves recently. Maybe this was some kind of weird iguana PMS? Oh she hoped it was that simple.
She wandered through the dense jungle brush nude and all fours, having found it rather comfortable. More comfortable then standing upright. Her huge frame shoved through the foliage loudly - the side to side swaying motion her body and tail made doing nothing to hide herself. But she was thankful that her camoflauge helped hide her regardless of this fact.
... Wait, why did she need to stay hidden? Predators. Ugh. What?
In her breif lapse of human thought she stopped and shook her reptilian muzzle, looking like some huge dinosaur straight out of Jurassic Park.

Cass's tongue flicked again, and this time she tasted a new scent on the air. She stirred, raising her head to look around, her coils shifting. A weird urge to flap her wings drifted through her mind, but she managed to suppress that and kept them folded.
It was a familiar scent, though before she could place it, Amaya came noisily crashing through the underbrush. She let out a soft, warning hiss without thinking about it, checked herself when she remembered that the chances were good it was just another islander, and peered curiously in the direction of the noise.
"Who's there?" she called, unsure she was seeing the figure properly.

Hm?
Amaya stopped her movement at the hiss, staying stark still until a familiar voice called out. One she hadn't heard in awhile. She sat up, head poking up between a couple of leaves nearby.
"Cassidy?" She called out in her quiet voice, tongue flickering as she looked around for the snake woman, though she neglected to look up at any of the trees.

The voice, at least, was familiar, and with that, the scent fell into place. "Amaya?" She could hardly believe what she was seeing; it would seem she was not the only one to be so far along.
She slipped down effortlessly to the branch below hers, flapping her bright wings a few times to attract attention. "Over here," she said, forgetting for the moment just how strange and alien she looked.

The movement easily caught her attention, the teen's head tilting to the side so she could see her. "Cassidy?" She uttered in equal surprise. She stood on her hind feet, wavering slightly until her tail balanced her out. Going from one position to the other made her dizzy.
Once she had regained her composure, she walked over. "Guess they got you too." She frowned, looking as sad as her reptilian features could manage. Strange brown and yellow eyes looked up at her as she stood underneath the branch Cassidy lay on.

"Just a couple days ago." She shook her head mournfully. Folding her wings, she slithered down the trunk again, head-first, to coil herself around the trunk at the base of the tree. "I hadn't seen anyone else as far along as me... but I guess I've been out of the loop."
There was no expression on her face, but Cass's voice carried more than a hint of sympathy, despite her own troubles. "How are you, all considered? You doing okay?

"Yeah... apparently I was the first." Amaya frowned and rubbed one of her arms nervously. "They didn't drag you to the labs or anything, did they?" She hoped they had only done it with her - it would save everyone else the panick and hassle.
"I'm... good, surprisingly. It's been awhile since I changed last, so I'm starting to get used to it. Y'know-" She shrugged her small, almost non-existant shoulders. "-getting used to the fact that this is how it's gonna be." The lizard cleared her throat, not wanting to dwell on herself too long before she poured all her worries out like she always seemed to.
"What about you?" She asked, looking over at the huge snake.

"No, no labs for me. They just pricked me in the night, and in the afternoon I changed, and shed my skin, and that was... er. Interesting." Cass's wings fluffed indignantly.
"I'm getting used to things. Slowly. If someone decides to close my duplex door while I'm out here I'm stuck until I find a kind soul." She flicked her tongue thoughtfully. "I suppose I'll live."

"You can always come to me and ask me to open it for you. Number 22." The girl gave a headbob but then stopped, one "brow" raising. "... Shed? We shed? Did you... change colours like this?" She pointed to the yellow around her eyes, different from the healthy looking green of the rest of her.

Cassidy gave Amaya a long look, and said at last, "I don't think so. But to be quite honest, I was more or less blind right before I shed, and I could have been purple for all I know. I know that earlier in the day I looked sort of... sort of shabby. Dull."

"Oh... ah well." Amaya scratched at the side of her long muzzle. "At least you got out of it okay. Sheding all at once has gotta be hard. Especially after changing." She frowned, showing her sympathies.

"Bit scary," Cass admitted. "I could have used a heads-up, but, well. You know what they're like about these things. I think they like having us in the dark all the time." She hesitated, her tongue flicking again. "But, hey. You and me, we don't have to worry about any more injections. Probably."

"Yeah, I think they enjoy it." Amaya frowned before looking back up at her, head tilting to the side so one eye could see her. "That's always good. They said they wouldn't really bother us once we're finished. No experiments or anything, which is a plus. Also found out that they won't kill us because we cost too much."

"Well, it's good to hear that," Cass said, a bit sardonically. Feeling fidgety, she shuffled her wings and adjusted her coils around the tree. "At least we've put them out a good amount, whatever else we've gone through."
She did, however, stare piercingly at Amaya's yellow patches for a moment. "I don't know, though... if those don't go away, or shed, or something... I'd ask. I'd hate to think you'd caught... iguana pox or something."
