I'm actually pretty new to Grey's Anatomy and read about most of the episodes I haven't seen, so please bear with me. sweatdrop
I know there's a lot of nicknames starting witn 'Mc' like McSteamy, McDog, and McVomit and stuff.
Also, I know that Christina first came up with Derek's nickname McDreamy - how did this come about?

uh..
I think it started around "In to you like a train".
I remember the male nurse calling him mc steamy in that episode.
i don't know that they every explained why they feel the need to MC' everthing. xp
hopefully someone else has a clearer answer. confused

Well I think It all started with McDreamy which Christina started in the second episode of the first season. Derek Sheppard = McDreamy because he is absolutly dreamy... hes been in one of my dreams actually... Mark Slaon = McSteamy because hes absolutly steamy and that is all i say... sorry i'm a loser. and i don't know why they have to start nicknames with Mc it confuses me

Shonda Rhimes How did you come up with the idea of "McDreamy?" Here's a question I can answer. Patrick Dempsey was on the set shooting the pilot of our show. Every day for fourteen hours a day, Betsy Beers and I sat on set watching him. And we like to add "Mc" to things. McTired, McBossy, McSilly. And there was one phrase we kept saying when looking at Dempsey - McDreamy. The man is McDreamy. He is. Look at him. Just look at him. There isn't another word for that kind of sexy gorgeousness. McDreamy.

It was in Season 1, episode 2; The First Cut is the Deepest.
Christina and Meredith were talking, and Meredith told Christina that she kissed Derek, and that she was having a bad day. So Christina turned to her and said, "So what do you do on your bad days? Oh, I make out with Doctor McDreamy in the elevator."

Thats exactly it..I knew it was when Mer and Cristina were talking, and it was Cristina who named him McDreamy...I just couldnt remember what episode, but I knew it was early on....After that everything became Mc...
He is very McDreamy.... heart heart

He is so McDreamy it's not even funny....I mean, even if you had never seen him before in your life, or even heard of him, but you saw him wlaking down the street one day, you'd start drooling! He's smexy in a realistic way, instead of the hot-doc-actor-on-a-soap-opra-way. And he is such a merciless flirt!
Derek: "I almost died today...yep. Came that close." *gestures*
Meredith: *gives him a look*

I agree so much!
Everyone I know is like "He's so old!" and I'm just like;
"Girlfriend, you have no idea what's old and what's so not!"
He's so egotistical too. It's only until he stands next to Mark and you're like "OMFG! Derek's incomparable to Mark!"
But, I do agree he's hot. Hotter than most guys his age and profession! redface 3nodding xd

alright Meredith told Christina that they did it and then they saw Derek outside and Christina looked at Meredith and she was like so hows McDreamy and thats how it all started personally I think that they overuse that "Mc" thing they used to say it like all the time 'McDreamy' 'McSteamy' 'McVet' 'McDog' 'McLife' 'McGnasty' 'McHottie' 'McBastard' 'McMarried'
