Tweek

A couple days had passed since Tweek's surprise encounter with the Forgotten Library, and the new guardian had gotten a quick a crash course in life with a child. The crib had arrived, the toys had been bought, the baby gates had been set up around the kitchen, and her small imitation of an office had been turned into a temporary bedroom.

At the present moment, Tweek was lazing behind yet another new fixture to her life, the spacious three wheeled stroller that Mungo had brought to her house the other day. The woman sighed as she wheeled the jogging stroller along the paved asphalt path that winded through the spacious local park. The pram had been much more expensive than she'd hoped, and although Mungo had claimed it was nothing -- in the breezy benevolent tone that all those with money can fall back upon -- she was going to have to find a way to pay her friend back for his generosity eventually.

A gurgle sounded from below the half drawn canopy, and Tweek cricked her neck to see her daughter glancing up at her with her merry blue eyes, curled up comfortably in her shawl upon a soft lambskin seat liner. Renewed was perched on Sonya's chest, his pointed snout leaning against the stroller's rim as he surveyed the passing landscape. The pine martin daemon seemed unusually sedate in his Forgotten's arms and Tweek found herself thankful for that much.

It was a wonderful day. Sunny, but enough shade dappled the trail to keep either Tweek or her charges from becoming too hot. The new mother congratulated herself. An afternoon stroll had been the perfect idea.

Raya gently brushed a few loose strands of dusty brown hair from Fray’s eyes, a matronly smile spread across her face. The girl had been busy between work and studying for the past few days so she figured she owed Fray and Lavender some outdoors time. Well, Fray at least. Lavender didn’t care much for the out doors (or anything for that matter.) Immediately after she had discovered a new and somewhat secluded park trail she knew that it would be a lovely place for an afternoon stroll.

Fray was happily peeking his head out of his dark blue stroller, his light purple eyes surveying the scenic surroundings with every attentive bone in his body. The whistle that seemed to be attached to his lips let out a small chirp every time he exhaled, signifying he was quite contented. Lavender was snuggled up in Fray’s scarf, as usual, a little discomforted by the warm weather. Her dark little eyes peeked up from the shadows with a murky glare at no one in particular.

The scenery was certainly something to be admired. Sunlight broke through the leaves that swayed in the wind, cascading a dance of light and dark on the trail. Raya closed her eyes for a moment, breathing in the crisp and fresh summer air. Her moment of peace was interrupted with a crash, as she had accidentally collided with another stroller. Fray let out a sharp whistle in surprise and Lavender scurried up Fray’s hair to perch on her Forgotten’s head, tail and ears erect.

“Goodness, I am so sorry!” Raya exclaimed, backing up the baby carriage with a hand on her face. “Are you and your baby alright? I’m sorry, I closed my eyes for a second and…” she drifted off, looking at the baby in the other stroller. Sonya’s bright blue eyes held the same mystical quality that Fray’s did. These children were out of the ordinary in the most fantastic way imagined.

"Ah!" Tweek jolted in surprise at the gentle collision, she'd mistakenly judged the distance between the two strollers and the hit had caught her unaware. As a ruffled Renewed began a short, indignant siren of squeaks and chutters, Sonya sat up in question at the slight motion, and trained her large blue eyes on the other girl's face, letting out a soft, curious "Bah?"

"It's quite alright!" Tweek said hurriedly as she gently corralled Renewed into the corner of the space to try to calm him down. "Don't mind him, he's all bluster. He'll go off like that at the drop of a hat." She shook her head, frankly somewhat embarrassed by the pine martin's protest.

"This thing supposedly has built in shock absorbers, anyway. Strollers these days, eh?" Tweek smiled amiably at the younger woman, her eyes drifting to the other's charge. "Your brother is gorgeous, by the way--" she started to say, but suddenly caught sight of the boy's tail and spiky furred companion. Glancing at the child's dreamy purple eyes she put a hand to her mouth. "Oh! Oh, um--you aren't by any chance a... I mean, is he a... are you a guardian?" The words shuffled out in a jumble and Tweek found herself grabbing the back of her neck sheepishly. s**t. Okay. Think, quickly. How was she going to respond when the other said 'What are you talking about?'

As Renewed let out his noises of displeasure, Lavender instantly jumped off Fray’s head and nearly flew to the end of the stroller. Her tail was erect and her hairs bristled hatefully as she let out a sharp hiss. Her coal black eyes stung like daggers and her jagged little teeth peeked out from her pointy face. Fray, on the other hand, rubbed his eye with his sleeve gently as if he had just pleasantly been awoken by a nap. He pouted slightly at Lavender’s upset state and chirped a few whistles in her direction to get her to calm down. Unfortunately, attempts went in vain, as the rat still seemed to want to jump out of the stroller and attack everything in sight. Thankfully, she refrained from doing so in her protective nature toward Fray.

After Raya had finished spurting her scatter-brained apologies, she was lost in Sonya’s eyes and Tweek’s question managed to sink in. The child in the stranger’s stroller had shocking, glacier blue eyes and a beautiful complexion, as well as a birthmark on her cheek similar to Fray. Not to mention the small furry rodent (?) that accompanied her. His ferociousness rivaled Lavenders! Slowly, her hand unwrapped around the stroller handle and lifted up to cover her mouth. She gasped gently, a smile leisurely forming upon her face.

“Yes, I am,” Raya said, looking at Tweek with glimmering eyes. Her voice could barely contain her joy. She adored meeting new Forgotten owners, not to mention Fray wasn’t what one would call very well socialized. “This is Fray and Lavender, and my name’s Raya!” She basically skipped to the side of the stroller to extend her hand in joy. “Thanks for thinking he was my brother, by the way. Everyone else seems to assume that I’m some teenage single mother who made a couple of wrong turns in my life!” She said with a large chuckle. Raya tended to make bad jokes when overly excited.

Fray, after fully assessing his surroundings, peeked over the cart to maybe catch a peek at what was making all that weird noise. He caught sight of Renewed and let out a large, bubbly giggle. His eyes caught Sonya’s and he let out a soft, friendly whistle and gave a charming smile.
