Yakuti walked slowly up to Mafa's den, the large elephant skull that he had seen only once before. He stopped a ways away, looking around for the alpha whom he respected so much, wanting to tell her everything that had happened in the time between now and the last time he had seen her.
He wanted to make her proud.

Mafa was dozing away in her den, sleeping off the countless hours she had been awake before. She had been awful busy lately, not that it bothered her. Situations seemed to come in periods. There were times when things just happened right after the other, and other times, where there was no action whatsoever. This was a busy period. As a stronger wind blew into her skull, Mafa's head perked up. Something was up. She stood and looked around, spotting Mabozi sleeping soundly in a ditch in the corner. Nothing would wake him up in such a deep slumber. He was a deep sleeper, just like his father.
Slowly, Mafa stepped out of her den, cold eyes narrowed as they searched for the disturbance. Quickly, her gaze was drawn to a splash of color amongst the gray: blue. It was Yakuti, a newer member of the pack, but was already pulling his weight quite well. Mafa's head rose, the rest of her keeping still as her monotonos voice murmured out into the silence,
"Well Yakuti, what is it?"

Yakuti bowed his head submissively before speaking, "Sorry to disturb you Mafa, but you told me to report to you often, if this is a bad time, I can always come back later." He said with a nod, flicking his tail a bit as he watched the alpha of the pack. He did not want to make her upset by desturbing her, no matter how much he wanted to tell her of his progress.

".... No. No, that's fine Yakuti, what has been going on?"
Mafa had paused for a moment. She honestly hadn't been expecting a report of any kind, but she was glad that he was doing so. Lately, she hadn't been getting news of anything at all, and that made her quite angry. Mafa looked coldly at the young hyena and nodded her head, beckoning him to follow her. She wanted to get away from the den, in case Mabozi did get up, he wouldn't disturb them. After straying a few yards away, Mafa stopped, turned, and sat down, looking to Yakuti inquisitively.

Yakuti smiled and followed, sitting down in in front of her when she stopped, his tail wagging happily. "Well, just a couple days after I got here, I established my own den a ways off, just like you told me." He started, "A while after that, this black lion came around and started climbing around and making such terrible noise." He said with a scowl. "I fought with him, he nearly got me when Tibuka came along and helped me." He said with a smile, "We were really close to getting him and another appeared, after a while I passed out since we were fighting so long..." He said with an embarrassed look on his face.
"Other than that, I've been doing patrols and such, getting my own food, the usual." He said casually.

Mafa nodded as the young male spoke, a far off look in her eyes. Only did she begin to zone in as he began to tell her about the lion. It was then that a bit of a spark flashed in her usually cold eyes. Easy to miss, but it was a rare showing of appreciation and pride for the newer members that she wasn't ready to trust with any other action.
"Ah, yes, Tibuka told me about this fight of your earlier. The bad thing about these lions is that they rarely are alone, so do not think you can take one down on your own, because when you least expect it, another one will pounce out of nowhere and all chances for a win will be lost. Remember, alone, we aren't as strong as them, but with our numbers, our strength will be unmatched."
Icy eyes focused in on the young male, narrowing to prove her point as she tilted her head upward slightly. He was coming along nicely indeed.

Yakuti smiled, though not as widely as he would have if they had managed to actually defeat the lion. "Yes Mafa, I wouldn't think that, but the first one was rather young, not yet fully grown. Yet he said he had been recieving training from someone." He said with a nod, "I just couldn't let it proceed into the graveyard unchallanged."
Yakuti had been wondering for a while, tired of his lonelyness, but he didn't know how to ask permission from the alpha, "Mafa, suppose I found... A creature, not a lion of course, but perhaps smaller, much smaller. Would I be able to keep the creature with me, and train it to help me in a fight and help with duties?" He asked making it sound more like he wanted to train something himself to prove himself rather than have it for the companionship.

Another round of nodding, Mafa wasn't sure how else to react to his achievements. She didn't want to seem like she could care less about what he did, but she didn't want him to know that she was actually proud either. So her solution was nodding, she accepted the fact that he was becoming to be an essential member to the pack.
"Exactly"
Her nodded quickly ceased though, as he brought up the mention of bringing a non-hyena animal into the pack. She wasn't against there being non-felines in the pack, but not as members or anything of the sort. Slaves were acceptable, such as Mafa's own wild dog, which she had no idea where the little mongrel had gotten itself off to.
"A....Slave?"

Yakuti cocked his head, "Like that wild dog, Kelello?" He asked, "Hm, I suppose it could be a bit like that, I was just thinking, that if it was okay, I would be able to train a creature to be even above that." He said, flattening his ears submissively.
"I just really think I could do it, if I found such a creature, to make it loyal and above a slave in time..."

"Yes, like Kelello. Have you seen her lately? I need to catch up with that mutt..."
Mafa mumbled something, barely audible, but seeking out Kelello would be important sometime soon, just to make sure she was complying with everything. And to invoke more fear into the critter of course. Mafa tossed her head to Yakuti's response,
"Train it to be what you wish, but I will not have something that is not a hyena being amongst our ranks. You understand Yakuti? We are superior and it cannot be any other way."

"Yes, I have seen her, only a few days ago." He said with a nod, "not sure where she got to..."
"No Mafa, of course not one of our ranks, just higher than a slave," He said with a nod, "More like a head slave or something?"

Mafa sat quiet for a moment, pondering slighty. Yes, she'd have to seek out that uncouth little heathen soon indeed. Lay down the law. Teach her not to wander too far from her master. Mafa glared at the youngster, she was not please, not pleased at all. But alas, Yakuti was one of her higher ups, even though he was young, so he was indeed allowed to function on his own.
"As a reward for fighting that lion, I will let you keep your slave. Just keep it away from me, after I see what it is. I don't want it causing trouble. Keep an eye on it too, fresh meat is hard to come by around here..."

Yakuti perked up, a smile on his face, he knew fighting that lion would pay off in more ways than one. "Yes Mafa, of course!" He said, wagging his tail happily, though forcing himself to contain the worst of the exitement inside of him while in Mafa's presance. "I'll bring it to you to see as soon as possible." He said with a nod, now thinking of what kind of creature he could find for a companion and helper. He would not refer to it as a slave, even if Mafa did.

Mafa nodded again, this time, not because of a lack of conversation, but to confirm what the juvinille had just stated. As long as she had the inner satisfaction of calling it a slave, she'd be happy. As long as it was clear to her that Yakuti didn't think other wise. And as long as he learned to keep his inner thoughts and emotions to himself, he'd scathe by just fine.
"Well then, anything else Yakuti? If not, I'd urge you to go on your way"
Mafa's tossed her head, flicking her mane out of her eyes. She stood, walking a slow and steady circle around Yakuti, assuring her dominance over him. Staring down at the youngster with harsh eyes she waited for a response.

Yakuti stopped wagging his tail and he flattened his ears onto his head once again, "No Mafa, nothing else, thank you for your time." He said bowing his head respecfully before backing away from the area, not wanting to be disrespectful to Mafa by turning his back to her.
