Introduce yourselves. Tell a little about yourself, how you go into Dune, if you're into Dune, and just whatever you'd like us to know. 3nodding

I am known as Godon in the intraweb, Infaerinus Dominus or just Infaerina on World of Warcraft, and Michael in real life. I'm almost twenty, about six feet tall, and a Chemistry major in college right now working on my B.A.
I used to be a book worm. I read Dune one summer. I was thirteen I believe. I read the entire Dragon Lance saga, Death Gate Cycle, and some of Anne McCaffery's novels. I didn't much get Dune. I had to read it with a dictionary. I zoned out a few times and lost track of who and what was going on and eventually put it down about five-sixths the way through the book. I picked it up again a bit later and got it better, then they came out with Dune 2000 the miniseries, which was lovely. I read it a few more times and got into it more. I'd say when I was seventeen or eighteen I decided to read theough all six the first time, then about a year ago I got the audiobooks and put them on my MP3 player. Both of them. I listened to them all day at work and such for a few months and I've been through the series about... six times now. emo
I love Dune for all of it's innovations. It really has something special going for it. The Benegesserit, the Mentat, the concepts of everything in the book just blow me away with their insightful glimpses into the society that is so deep it is hard to fathom. Frank Herbert absolutely made a universe that is beautiful in it's depth and complexity.
Anyway, other then that... I'm not real interesting but I have MySpace and AIM on my Gaian profile if you want more.

I'm Adam, and got into Dune sometime last year.
I just happened to notice it in the school libary and the title sparked off some memory. (I think my dad had the book years ago)
Anyhoo, I found it really interesting and went on to read all the sequels up to God emperor. (I think the next one I need to find is Hereticts of Dune)
I have also read "The Machine Crusade" by Brian Herbert and Kevin J Anderson. It's set after the book "The Butlerian Jihad".

I got into Dune because it was referenced in the Alpha Cantauri game manual. I read it, loved it. Then, I read up to God-Emperor. I love God-Emperor, it probably is one of my favorite books overall- how evil is necessary if you're omniscient. Then, I read everything else. As for the new stuff... I dislike what Brian Herbert did. he should've just published the notes his father left him, and just commented on them- like Christopher Tolkien did with "The Tales of Middle-Earth."

I only read the one Brian Herbert book.. What did you dislike? I found that the story seemed a bit tacked on. "Hmm, it's getting near the end..I'll kill off you, you, you aaand..you. Just like that."

Several things. Firstly, their writing skill is very bad compared to Herbert. Second, the plot was as predictable as possible. Third, it didn't invlude any philosophy at all. Fourth, the characters were... not even 1 dimensional. They barely had dimension at all.

Ah..Dune. Well I first noticed Dune when I saw part of the movie years ago on SciFi. And every year afterwards I would catch glimps of it whenever it came on. The movie was so long I never sat down to watch the whole thing through. But anyways, the thing that drew me first were the blue within blue eyes that the people of Dune had. I found myself wishing that I could have eyes like that rolleyes ..(what can I say...I was like 13). Then one day I happened to notice a book titled Dune in the bargains section of my bookstore. I bought it and it turned out to be Dune:the Butlerian Jihad. Since then I've read the prelude books in order. I am currently 16 and have just started reading the Dune Chronicles. This year I was able to catch the movies on SciFi and watch it. I believe they cover the first 4 book of Dune??? question

(By the Dune chronicles, do you mean the Frank Herberts books?)

They were okay. Pretty well done, but also lacking in some aspects. Although I've heard people respond both very positveley and negatively, so I think it varies from person to person.
