Awesome, I don't think I could follow a Kaolla group leader that didn't look just like her xd
Hehe, well as for Ed/Kaolla similarities, there are several; kid geniuses, skinny, "blushing", hyperactive... But I've given it some thought in the past and decided they're still pretty different.
Kaolla made friends with anyone and everyone, while Ed was a loner pretty much, and also much better with animals. They both know a lot about technology, though Ed is more of a pure hacker, whereas Kaolla is great with engineering. Ed seemed to be more of a tomboy also... at least in her choice of outfits, Kaolla usually wore distinctly feminine clothing (though if you count a school uniform, I dunno how much difference that makes). Also as a personal p.o.v. I thought Kaolla expended her energy in a much less annoying way... running and jumping around, and Ed was constantly singing poorly or otherwise being a tad annoying. sweatdrop
How about one of my favorite Kaolla moments... my first experience with Love Hina was a fansub I downloaded several years back... and during the first "Magical Girl Kaolla" episode.. I think ep. 10 or so, Keitaro and Naru come running into her room at night, and Kaolla wakes up (sleeping on a tree limb) and said something like "Oh... Keitaro... did you come here to jump me? If so, I don't mind." blaugh Hopefully I don't sound like a complete perv, but I totally cracked up at that.
