I was hoping someone would know of a resource I could use to learn how to make puppets like the ones in Avenue Q... There is a book I know of but it is like 30 dollars so preferably an online resource... Thank you!

Get a job working with Jim Henson. XD Sorry, but I don't know. My advice is buy the book. I don't think there's an online resource anywhere...

I freaking LOVE puppets. I'm kind of an amature puppet-maker (mostly marionettes), but the puppets I've been taught to make my puppets with heavy foam, like the kind of foam from a mattress(If you've ever heard of Amalgamated Puppetworks/Puppet News, that's the lady I learned from). There are some okay websites and pretty good books out there to learn from, but they can't really show you the full on 360 that you're going to need if you want to make really excellent puppets. I'd suggest a video or a DVD of some kind. They're usually cheaper than books and most likely, you'll get more out of it.
Good luck!
(I'm BACK, by the way! XD ...at least part way.)

If you want to learn how to make them like that, it will take several things: time, money, and practice.
To do it right, you really have to spring for the good resources, otherwise they'll end up reallly crappy.
This is the best advice I can offer to you.

Puppets are scary, but Avenue Q is awesome. Sometimes the AQ puppets scare me.
