I came up with this idea during our heated discussion about how to revamp/revive the quality of the guild. maybe it's been done before. I don't know. can't say I've been here as long as virgil or wally but hey! let's give it a shot!
basically as the title of the thread says, I'm curious as to why you people chose to pretend to be the hero/villain you are masquerading around here as. Is it favoritism? Is it style? Or is their a more personal, visceral reason for you being who you are here in this guild? and perhaps your avatar doesn't quit match the character you portray. this could be explained here, as well.
That being said, I may as well kick things off.
...Marc Spector is not the most heroic man in the world. He's not the smartest, richest, happiest, or even the most socialble. And in many ways, unlike other heroes such as, oh...Colossus, for example, I don't know entirely idolize him to the point where I would like to say "look, guys...this man is my inspiration".
No...Moon knight certainly isn't one of the shining stars in the public eye.
So why be him? why be someone who can't laser eye things to death or shoot webs? The answer is because Moon knight, and all his many personas, are not some one I look up to or aspire to. Nay, it is because Moon Knight is the most like me. I love the fact that Moon knight is mentally unstable...violent, morally and conceptually confused yet adaptable. It's almost like looking in a fun house mirror whenever I see moon knight. I see vestigle traits of myself in him: split personality disorder, schizophrenic tendencies, paranoia, loneliness, anti sociability. I see a man who's willing to fight for what he believes despite the odds against him (and there are many). Some one who, in the end, when he finally does what everyone has told him he could never do, he proudly wave his middle finger in the air and say something to likes of "where's your god now" while feeling remorse about it all at once.
alas...I could go on and on about how much I'm like moon knight...but I must go...perhaps an editted post after lunch...perhaps not. I may have explained myself enough.
so that being said, post why you're you in this guild...maybe we have more in common than we realize.

It really came down to the fact that when I was still using Grendelrose, I didn't see a Lex Luthor in CD, and I wanted a handle to apply to Kapow with. Given that I enjoy the role opf the villain, I decided to come correct, and pick the Big One. So to speak.
The fact that (at least in the movies) he's shown as being fond of wigs, I can use him to portray other characters fairly seemlessly. Jay . . . Raistlin . . . other characters that hit my fancy.

As for my other accounts that I fade in and out from time to time . . . .
Danny Ketch . . . . Danny was Ghost Rider for me. The Johnny Blaze series ended long before I started reading comics, and even with him back, I like ketch better.
David Conner . . . the thought of a harsher version of Superman amused me, as did the thought of confronting a certain boy scout under the guise of his (former) replacement cool
Eric D Raven . . . . The Crow is, I think, the greatest of graphic novels, and I thought he needed some representation.
Hamato Raphael . . . really more of a whim than anything else, but I'm growing quite fond of the comic Turtles as I read more of their adventures.
Warrior guy Gardner . . . . I like the idea of Guy. A good guy who makes no effort what so ever to try and act nice . . . but isn't dark and gritty and rip-your-face-off angry. I think he's fun and funny.

I use Jaeger because Finder is my favorite comic and NOBODY reads it. This is my advertising ploy.
That and I know there will only be one writer and she won't screw up the character.

You know, I'm not completely sure why I picked Spider-Man 2099. I just ... did.

I really don't care who I portray, as much as what. I could be Green Lantern Richard Simmons for all I care. Green Lanterns are the most inspiring to me. Their only limitations are their willpower and imagination, and I like the idea of inserting this into my real life. They have extremely powerful weapons, but they still are only really doing what real people do. If someone wants something badly enough, if they're willing to devote all their time to it, there's a good chance they can acheive it. This clearly isn't the case in everything, but in jsut a few, it's enough.

Clark~Kent - Superman, how could I not leap at an opportunity like that? As soon as I heard Denike was getting rid of him, I pmed him and was able to attain Clark for myself.
Eobard Thawne - Much like Lex, the thought of having an eviler or darker version of Wally or Barry really jumped at me, not to mention Eobard quickly grew to be one of my favorite villians.
Jason Macendale - The second Hobgoblin. I initially joined Kapow with Johnny Gallo aka Ricochet. I was a big fan of Spider-man at the time I joined so I wanted a goblin, I even polled kapowians to determine which Goblin they would most like to see here.
Dmitri Smerdyakov - A shapechanger as much as I was a mulechanger, I thought The Chameleon would help me contain my sporatic mule switching. I also liked the idea of the moments between Mystique and Chameleon.
Prof. Charles Xavier - My breif X-Men phase in Kapow, I noticed we didn't have a Professor... So, tada. Charles being my favorite mutant may have also had something to do with it.
Alexander Luthor Jr. - the thought of the look on Lex's face really amused me, as did the thought of confrontations that might occur, seeing as how he did it to me first using The Eradicator.
Uncle Sam Wilson - I blame Infinite Crisis for this one, I also thought the idea of having Uncle Sam in the guild, if played correctly, would be interesting.
Aunt May Parker - Aunt May, pervayor of evil cookies everywhere. Lovable Aunt to Peter Parker. Me being a Spider-fan, I couldn't help choose this character when people started bugging me about not having a female mule.
Buried Alien - a tribute to Barry Allen
Jay Garrick. - Just another passing fad I joined in, easily destroyed by my confrontation with the other Jay Garrick on the boards.
Reep Daggle - My legionaire from the LOSH trend times in Kapow. I used him as an updated Dmitri Smerdyakov.
Vril Dox - I had recently seen Brainiac attacks. I love animated Brainiac. Also, I have top say that I may have created him for the smae reasons I created Eobard and Alexander.
AshJ.Williams - The Chosen one. I had hopes he would be accepted into Kapow! However, this was not the case. crying I love all three of Sam Raimi's Evil Dead movies, and I think Bruce Campbell is great. So, becuase I love all those things I have to figure out how to throw in a movie quote.... Oh well, I guess... "I'm not that good." or the line that replaced it "Good, Bad, I'm the one with the gun."
Crispus Allen - I have been reading about this Spectre since I first saw Crispus Allen in Infinite Crisis. I enjoyed his mini series, and I look forward to his continuing adventures in the upcoming Tales of the Unexpected series. Also, as soon as I get my confirmation email for him, I intend to join with him eventually and exact vengance upon Kapow's Jim Corrigan.

I chose CHris because I always loved Darkhawk from issue one. I have every issue in the run. I also feel as tho he never got enough love. So i was hoping to bring some respectability to the character. So far, I have failed miserbly. xd

I like sponsoring lost causes, and rooting for the underdog. That said, I created this account the moment I found out about the strong possibility of Hal Jordan returning and replacing Kyle. I grew up on Kyle as Earth's Green Lantern, and this helped me make my statement.
I also have an account named Connor Kent. I created the account when they started to fool around with Superboy. First the rumors of his likely death, then the whole 1/2 Luthor thing, then they finally killed him off.
Im batting 0000 so far. stressed

Well back in the day, when some of the Kapow!ians were asking (begging, pestering, what-have-you) The Brigeeda to join the guild, I came up with Greta Hayes aka Secret because A. I needed a heroine that wasn't already taken and 2. I was such a big fan of Young Justice and Secret's powers and naivity just appealed to me. She was so shocked when she thought Harrison Ford could be evil. xd
Inque Clay came afterwards because I wanted a second mule in here like everyone else had. It was shortly afterwards that I lost Greta's password... sweatdrop . I always liked Inque's powers on Batman Beyond and I just really wanted to be a super-villianess too.

He was too damn perfect not to make a mule for. Of course, now Father Blood Drench Robo Crush is a 'mule', having taken over my other account.
(And you had half a name for Kapow! anyways, Lex! Everytime I see "GrendelRose", I think Grendel! With the double-knife staff of awesome! How shween that would be.... hmmm.... ninja )
