User ImageThe rain from earlier had stopped and the myriad puddles had started to dry up, but yet Kahawia was still covered with mud. She needed a stream or a watering hole, but where would that be? She was as lost as she ever had been and the sun was starting to sink beyond the horizion, but that didn't stop her from being happy. She hop-skipped along in the direction of the sun, just hoping for a friendly face to help her find her way.

Mashaka slunk across the muddy grasslands, head low and grumbling to himself. A scowl was scribed deep across his face. He was still vaguely disgruntled about his encounter with the cub. God, how he hated kids. Especially smart-mouthed, self-righteous little kids like the one he'd met.

What was worse was that it had rained. Now, Mashaka had no problem with rain on principal. Rain, of course, brought water which was an emportant element of survival. That water gave Mashaka hydration, gave hydration to all the smaller animals that Mashaka ate, and of course gave hydration to all the lovely ladies of the plains of Africa. That wasn't the point. The point was that the water made mud, and mud made a horrible mess of his lovely solid maroon coat. How can you impress the girls when you're all covered in mud? Not very well.

That's when he spied something moving in the distance. Curious, he prowled closer, weaving between trees to keep his cover. Then...

"Helloooo... who do we have here?" he muttered under his breath. It seemed there was a beautiful girl in his presence. Mashaka grinned. Perhaps he was not entirely out of luck. Doing his best to make himself look presentable, he licked his paws and groomed back his white mane before showing his face.

"Well good day, ma'am," Mashaka greeted with a bow and a winsome smile. "You're looking lovely on this miserable day. Might I ask you your name?"

Kahawia padded along blissfully unaware of the male cheetah moving through the trees nearby. "I'm sure I passed one when I headed out this way.." she stated quietly to herself. "Maybe I was coming from the other direction.." She had just stopped and looked back the way she had come, when something spoke to her.

"Oh, hi there!" she said looking at the other cheetah smiling and slightly wagging her tail. "Thank you, sir. My name is Kahawia!" she said without hesitation. Apparently she had never learned to never talk to strangers. "What's your name?" she asked eagerly.

Mashaka grinned. The fact that she hadn't already tried to claw his face was a good sign, in his mind. He strolled closer to her, smoothly but cautiously, like approaching something venomous and dangerous. Then again, girls could be pretty dangerous when they liked, Mashaka thought... but that was part of what made them so alluring.

"Well my name's Mashaka, pretty Miss Kahawia," Mashaka responded. He tried to look innocent as he went on. "You know, I couldn't help but overhear you as I was passing by through those trees over yonder," here he gestured with his paw to where he had been supposedly innocently strolling. "Now, did I hear that you're looking for something? Is there any way I could help you find what it is you seek?" He batted his eyebrows a little at her. Maybe if he could help her find whatever it is that she was looking for, he could impress her.

There was a little nagging at the back of her mind, but Kahawia had no intention of listening. She figured, "He must know where a stream is!" Thank goodness she was such a shade of red because she blushed a little. "You have a cool name, Mr.Mashaka." She giggled at the alliteration the small word had added to his name.

As he gestured she followed his paw to the trees and looked at them for a while. She then looked back to the dark red cheetah and replied with a big grin. "Yes! I'm looking for a stream or some water that isn't muddy. I was playing in the mud earlier with a lion and I'm quite ready to wash it off." She could feel the mostly dry mud starting to crack and strech with the movement of her body. It was becoming more and more uncomfortable as the minutes passed.

Mashaka feigned flustered to make Kahawia feel at ease. If you come on too strong you scare a girl, and it wasn't going to do anyone any good to scare Kahawia away at this point. "Well, thank you very much, Miss Kahawia," Mashaka said through his smile, "But you can just call me Mashaka. Or Shaka. Actually..." He shuffled a little closer and leaned his head in conspiriatorally before whispering, "...you can call me anything you'd like, sweetie." He then winked at her and clucked his tongue before pulling back.

"So it's a stream or source of water you seek," Mashaka declared. "Well you happen to be in luck, young lady, for I happen to know of such a place." He swished his tail and motioned with grandeur towards the intended direction. "By chance there is a small pond just yonder, a watering hole with clear, sparking waters. It's a mite shallow, I'm afraid, but I think it shall suit your purposes nicely." He began to set off in his slinking sort of walk, shoulders rolling smoothly. A few yards ahead he paused and glanced back to her. "Does it interest you, doll?"

Kahawia was blissfully ignorant of his flirting. She was just overjoyed he knew where water was. She pranced in place a little. "Oh yes, Shaka! I'm very much interested! It sounds just perfect!" She bounded after him, the dried mud starting to flake off as her limbs moved after him quickly.

((It's short because she's stupid :B Next one will be longer))

Mashaka grinned toothily at his unwitting "prey", so to speak. This was just so easy... though maybe a little too easy. Mashaka wasn't used to girls going along with his plans this easily. Usually they all fought him a little first, if not outright rejected him. It made him wonder if this girl was even getting the picture. It made him wonder if maybe this girl was... special. Mashaka, by principle, would never take advantage of a girl who didn't know what she was doing.

Well... he'd give her a chance.

Maintaining his smile without ever faltering, he nodded and set off in the direction of the waterhole. "Excellent. Follow me, then, Pretty Miss, and I shall escort you there safely."

Kahawia returned his grin with her own goofy grin. "Wonderful! Thank you very much Miste- I mean, Shaka!" she felt a little embarased and blushed a little which was fourtunately not so obvious with the layer of mud caked over. Then she gladly followed him towards the waterhole. "Mr. Shaka is so nice to take me to find water," she happily thought.

She hop-skipped along behind him, as well as she could with mud clinging to her fur, like the five year old her mind told her to be. Her obliviousness is gonna get her killed someday.

Despite any reservations Mashaka might have about this prospect, he walked with confidence anyway. His stride was steady and sure, his head high, and his smile... vaguely predatory. The girl was playing right into his hands. This was far too easy. He chuckled lightly as he saw her prancing about at his side and leered at her sideways. "You certainly are a free spirit, my dear," he commented, tail swishing lightly.

She was quite a mess, and he had noticed that. He wasn't terribly picky about his girls, however, and he was sure that she'd be gorgeous once she was clean. He slid up closer to her and inquired, "So what's your story, love?" It was always good to lure a girl into conversation, it tended to loosen them up.

She gradually turned her prancing into a walk. "Why thank you, Shaka!" She grinned sort of stupidly, not quite sure what to make of the statement. So she continued smiling and walking with this disguised predator.

Kahawia couldn't wait until they found this watering hole. The mud was itchy and walking wasn't exactly the time to scratch. "My story? Well, there's not much of a story to tell. I don't remember anything about my family or where I'm from!" She couldn't help but smile and laugh even though it was not a good thing at all. "Do you have a story to tell me?"

Mashaka leered a little at his prey. Her politeness and well-mannered sweetness were charming, endearing... perversely enticing to Mashaka, who has quite possibly never known a pure intention in his life. "No need to thank me, my sweet," Mashaka told the Kahawia, "I merely state a fact." Flattery, Mashaka found, was a great way to melt a girl. You make a girl feel like a princess and she'll almost always let you be her knight for the day. That's how it usually worked for Shaka, anyway.

He faltered a little when she asked him about his story. Briefly the cool self-confidence flushed from his face and was replaced with worry. It was only for a split second, though, and soon enough he platered back on his self-assured grin and even he didn't even remember what had concerned him. "'Fraid I haven't really got a story either, love," Mashaka said with false regret, "I'm just a plain, simple guy out on his own." He shrugged like Atlas letting the world roll off his shoulders. Kahawia's admission that she remembered nothing of her parents did not bother Mashaka. Frankly, he'd only been half-listening to her. Either way, his plans for her did not really extend far enough into the long term to be terribly concerned about her family.

Kahawia smiled at Shaka. "Well, if you say so. I was just taught to say thank you and things like that when I'm given a compliment..." Her voice drifted away, almost like she was insulted. This cheetah didn't seem so welcoming anymore, almost like he had some sort of...motivation for his kindness.

She watched his face as they walked. She thought she saw a slight falter in his expresion, but she must've been mistaken since his face was still the same a second later. Kaha shrugged away the thought and replied with a smile, "Well, maybe you'll get your own family one day." She loved to learn things about people, no matter how well she already knew them. This was pure bliss, well.. besides the fact she was still covered with mud...

Mashaka beamed confidently, letting his previous doubt fade into the back of his mind. He was doing well with this girl, he was quick to gain her trust, and he wasn't about to let that go. Hell, he was on a roll as far as he was concerned. "Well, you were raised very well," Mashaka commented nonchalantly. "What a proper young lady you are." He was too self-satisfied to notice the shift in her tone of voice. "It's rare to see a proper young lady like you these days."

Family. Mashaka shivered a little deep inside. Family was one thing Mashaka didn't like to think about. He didn't know why this was... he never allowed himself to think of it long enough to even think of a reason. "Perhaps I will," he commented dismissively, forgetting the subject entirely as soon as it was said.

Then, right on cue, they came upon it. Shaka grinned wide. "Ahhh-HA!" he cried triumphantly. The waters of the watering hole sparkled in the low light. It wasn't dreadfully deep, but it'd do. He gestured to it. "There you go, love. I know it's not awful impressive, but I still think it's beautiful, don't you." Certainly, if you cocked your head off to one side at just the right angle, the shallow hole in the mud might pass for beautiful. Mashaka didn't really think it was beautiful. He simply knew that girls appreciate a guy who can appreciate beauty in even the simplest things.

Kahawia beamed. "Thank you again, Shaka. I try my hardest to be someone Mama and Papa would be proud of." Then she nodded once for enthusiasm.

Kaha looked at him with with a bit of shock when he cried out. She then looked forward at the cause of the "Ahh-HA!" and she with a giggle she shouted "HaHA! You found it!" She barely heard what he said about the watering hole for she had hop-sprinted forward and splashed into it apparently making as much noise as possible. It felt so good to get the dried mud off finally.
