The girls had begged, and Silverah had finally relented to the temptation of going to an unhealthy fast food restaurant. The local branch of GambinoBurger was a loud, greasy-smelling establishment decorated everywhere with garish purples and golds and the smiling characterized Johnny K. Gambino mascot.
They'd shuffled off to a corner booth where the table seemed only mildly sticky and investigated their food. Darsais's milkshake looked by far the most appetizing. Nereida poked at her limp fish sandwhich and Silvy glared at her salad, which was, though the healthiest thing on the menu, also the blandest.
"Can we never come here again?" Darsais asked flatly, stirring her quickly-melting shake.
((OOC: because Silvy and each of the girls has a seperate font color, I'm not even bothering.))

((OOC: As I use colors for Gage and Dierdre, and are lazy, I will not be doing it either.))
Cooking was out.
She wasn't quite sure how the entire thing had happened... one moment she was baking some bread... the next her stove was on fire and Gage was calling the fire department. Needless to say, Ronnie did NOT feel like tampering with the stove from hell again.
So, fast food it was, what a joy... except not. She'd tried hard to steer Gage and Dierdre away from fast food, but it couldn't be helped. Taking an extra pre-caution, in case the evil oven decided to act up again, she'd grabbed her chip as well.
Somehow, she wrangled her two kids to the service counter and let them argue over what would be chosen. In the end, Dierdre had sneered at all the food and settled for a salad... which she probably wouldn't touch. Gage had picked his way over the menu and settle for their version of a chicken sandwhich, and Ronnie... well she opted to not order as it probably would kill her eventually.
After receiving their items, Ronnie turned to scope out a spot for them and spotted a familiar face. Herding her children along she set their tray down at the table next to Silvy and her crew. "Hey, mind if we join you?"

Silverah looked up and grinned at Ronnie. "Not at all! Great to see you!" She looked across the table at her daughters. "Scoot over, guys. Dierdre and Gage need to sit down."
She looked back up at Ronnie again. "You know Nereida, and the purple-haired one is Darsais."
"'cept you don't say it like you spell it," Darsais chimed in. "'Cause you spell it D-A-R-S-A-I-S and say it Dar-Say. I dunno where the S goes."
Silverah laughed. "That'd be Darsais. She's from Kybernetika AI institute. Speaking of which, I heard that Doctor Brune got you involved with that?"

Ronnie nudged her children to sit down, knowing it'd be the safer route she scooted Dierdre in between herself and Silverah, there'd be the less likely chance of a cat fight that way.
She smiled at Darsais when the little girl explained her name. Where did that "s" go? Taking a moment, she introduced her children, "This is Dierdre, Darsais, Silverah and Nereida already know her. And this handsom young boy," she gestured at Gage who bowed politely to each new person, "is Gage."
Turning to Silverah, Ronnie gently brought the chip out of her purse, "and this is what Dr. Brune gave to me. I couldn't help myself when I found out about his project."

Darsais smiled and waved shyly at the other children, whom she assumed to be older than herself. Then she took a long slurp of her milkshake.
Silverah gently lifted the chip out of Ronnie's hands. "That's not the standard design, is it? I think Darsais's chip was more of a trapezoid than that. So were all the other ones I've seen. And lookit the bandana! Did you put that on it? Did Doc tell you any more about the theme and personality? He had it listed in the public file, right?"

Ronnie's eyebrows winged up at Silverah's questions... she didn't know... had the Doctor mentioned any of those things at their meeting? Grasping on to the one thing she did know she answered, "No the bandana was already on there when I go it."
Gage saw his mother's peril and swiftly came to the rescue. Clearing his voice slightly to catch Silverah's attention, he explained, "The Doctor at the laboratory did not explain much about the chip's personality or features that would make it differnt from others. He informed us that we're not to chew on it or play ping pong with it, he also supplied dietary needs, but I think this was all very general all around information."
"Thank you Gage." Ronnie said feeling slightly dumb compared to her child.
Dierdre took a moment to review Darsais, there was something odd about her, for instance, the bits of metal showing all over her skin. Still, she allowed the girl a very slight smile, "Hello."

"Well, at the very least, how'd you get the chip in the first place? He does screening. Sometimes it's a theme contest. What's it's name, at least? Designation, maybe? You must know those. He always sends a letter or something with that information." Silvy was determined to figure it out.
"Hi," Darsais replied shyly, taking another gulp of melted ice cream. "I like your hair."

Ronnie merely smiled and nodded toward Gage who was looking up at her expectedly. Even if it was belittling to have your child outsmart you, at least it was handy.
"Veronica won a pirate theme contest I believe. She received the letter from Doctor Brune that informed her that the chip designated 'Sparrow' would be waiting for her at the laboratory. If memory is correct, his first name is Jack. It could be that he's based off of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie character." Gage deduced, though he'd not seen the movie before.
Brightening at the thought (because she hadn't realized it herself) she nodded vigorously, "That must be it!" (Talk about your slow with a capital "S")
This time Dierdre did smile, genuinely, at the girl. There was obviously brains in this one, something she'd found lacking in most children she met. She preened as only one derived from a bird could. "Thank you," feeling like there should be some trade of words she added, "Your hair is unique." She'd noticed how unique could be used as a compliment of sorts... she'd let the girl take it however she wanted.

"That would probably have some Sophie inspiration behind it," Silvy sighed, thinking of the slightly-pop-culture obesessed young woman.
"Excellent!" exclaimed Nereida, poking her fish again. "Captains Canary and Sparrow shall rule the seas! And we'll catch fish that tastes ten times better than this one." She gave Dierdre a wicked grin from across the table. "And better than that sea monster, too."
Darsais looked begrudgingly at her hair. "It's purple," she shrugged. "I want it to be longer, but it won't grow 'till I do." Again, she took a sip from her drink. "You're from the same place as Nereida, aren't you? And Gage, too, right?"

Ronnie tried to think back to when she saw the first movie... her new son would be based off that?! One line from the movie kept running through her head, "Well, then, I confess, it is my intention to commandeer one of these ships, pick up a crew in Tortuga, raid, pillage, plunder and otherwise pilfer my weasely black guts out!" What had she gotten herself into? Smiling, she rubbed her brow, "Well, at least I can have an idea of what I'm starting..."
Dierdre, at the mention of the sea-monster they'd killed, decided that Nereida may just be better left ignored. Focusing on Darsais, she was curious about what the girl meant, her hair won't grow until she what? "You don't grow regularly?"
Gage, feeling that his part in his mother's coverstaion was done turned to Nereida. "You like all that pirate stuff don't you? Is it fun?"

"Well, they're not inherently evil. I'm sure Doc's toned down the personality to suit a little kid," Silverah said hopefully, taking a bite of her salad and wincing. The iceberg lettuce was absolutely rancid.
Darsais shook her head. "No, I don't." She tapped her head. "I grow up here, an' then the rest of me does. Doc helps with it. My hair doesn't grow. Jus' stays short and purple."
"Loads," Nereida replied enthusiastically. "There's nothing like sailing free on the ocean." She didn't mention that she'd never been farther out than her little raft would take her.

"And we can thank god for small mercies like that than." Ronnie tried for humor while her brain ran around imagining things from her home being stolen out from under her nose. "That bad huh?" She asked gesturing to the salad. She noticed Dierdre had pushed away her own.
Dierdre sized up the other girl, she wondered how old she was in her mind then. "I don't think I'd like growing that way? Is it a terrible chore then?" Still, she did like the girl's hair color, perhaps someday she'd dye her own a different color, or maybe just her stripe.
As Gage recalled pirates often used guns... and if that were the case, he would probably be alright with being a pirate. "Perhaps sometime I could join your crew?"

"Personally I don't know how this place stays in business," stated Silverah. "The food is all disgusting."
"The milk shake is good," offered Darsais.
"It's impossible to mess up ice cream," Silverah shot back.
Darsais frowned for a moment and then looked back to Dierdre. "It's not a chore. I get to tell Doc if I want stuff to happen to me, and I get to pick when it happens. Like, I told him I want longer hair and legs made special for dancing and he promised me he'd do it."
Nereida liked that suggestion. "I - er - Captain Canary'd love to have you," she told Gage.

Ronnie giggled and gestured at the little toys some other childre pulled out of bags of food. "It's the toys, they're cheap plastic and some kids seem to flock toward them." Pondering for a moment, she added, "And you've obviously not had freezer burned ice cream... eww."
The sound of customizable growing was pretty sweet. Though most of what she wanted was happening. Still, she smiled and latched on to a point of interest. "You like dancing? I've been watching some tv shows on it, and Ronnie has agreed to enter myself and Gage into ballroom classes."
Gage smiled, a very rare occasion, "Would I get a pirate name too?" He tried to think of names he'd like to have, predominately he thought of the name "Gunsmoke Gage" but thought it sounded more like a corny super hero name.

"Speaking of the toys..." Silverah reached into Nereida's back and pulled out an action figure wrapped in plastic. "Am I wrong or is this Jack Sparrow?"
Nereida was quick to snatch it back. "It's Captain Jack Sparrow and I wanted it," she clarified. Returning her attention to Gage, her cheery demeanor returned. "If you wanted to," she told him. "They're fun."
"I love dancing!" stated Darsais, flexing her toes under the table. "Ballet, mostly, but right now I can't get any better because I'm pushing the flex limits on my legs as it is. I can't wait for the special ones that Doc's making me."
