I already made this post over at the Slayers Canon Guild, but I felt I should post it here too. I just read this at Anime News Network: Quote: CPM's rights expire, FUNimation picks up 1995-97 show At the FUNimation panel at Anime Central, FUNimation announced the purchase of the rights to the Slayers TV franchise, including all three seasons of the show: Slayers, Slayers Next, and Slayers Try. All three seasons had been released previously by Central Park Media. Regarding the decision to pick up the show, marketing and media specialist Jon Baumgardner said, "We decided to acquire the rights to maintain the integrity of the property." In case anyone doesn't know, FUNimation is the company that dubbed shows like Dragonball Z, Yu Yu Hakusho, Fruits Basket, and Fullmetal Alchemist. I'm not entirely sure what this means for the future of the Slayers dubs. One person at the Anime News Network forums made this speculation: Quote: From what I read over at AoD, the license is more of a preservation thing. They're going to work on restoring the video and any minor edits, sound, and redub certian things using the original english cast, and then release it sometime in 2006. It's so it doesn't fall into obscurity.

I's heard some of that before. Sounds good if you ask me. The only problem I can see is that it will make Slayers stuff harder to get a hold of. But it also might mean that they start actually MAKING merchandise again. I don't think anyone could be against something like that.

NONONONONO~ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anything!!! Just not FUNmation crying !!!!(( And 4kids of course)) The old one was bombin already!! Why they gotta do this !!!! Oh I know why.... They WANT me to be this way !! They are doing this on pourpose !!!!!~ Im not joking people !!! They are out to hurt my brain * Points to head* and my heart *Points to chest* crying crying crying . And also..Its been what?? 5 years since the last time Slayers was shown with original cast right??? That means that most of the voice actors will be lost or out of communication or just not intrested anymore!!! Re-dubbing is like a death to the original!! OMG !!! What if it gets OVER commercialized!!! And Kanzaka will HAVE to make more SLAYERS!!!! What then!!! If that happens then Kanzaka will be SURE to think diffrently...It happend with InuYahsha , Recca no Hono , and even Ah My Goddess (( not that much as InuYasha)). Slayers would become a cliched piece of junk if that happens... * Goes to corner * Why oh why why why did this have to hapen * Slaps face several times* *Sits and rocks back and forth * eek

Um, if you notice, it never said they're going to re-dub the whole series. They mostly just want to touch it up a bit and re-release it so it doesn't fall into obscurity.

I agree with you that english Inuyasha sucked, I haven't seen any of the other ones, but the original post did say they were going to use "the original english cast" and only "redub certain things." (for Slayers)
About the commercialization... I think it might be nice for someone to hear I liked Slayers and actually know what it is. Now I don't want to see wind-up Amelias and Linas that say "Dragon Slaaaaavvve!!" at McDonalds, but actually putting it on the charts might be not be a bad thing. As I said before, it would probably stimulate the company that markets Slayers to make more merchandise (let's just hope it isn't crap), and that could either go good or bad. The only thing we can do is wait and hope they don't screw up. wink

While re-releasing it could be good in the interest it may generate, I don't trust FUNimation as far as I can throw them (which isn't very far). The anime that they have done that I know of was slaughtered. And while I realize that they aren't re-dubbing the entire series (the only benefit of which would be Moo's possible being left out ^^) they still make me edgy. I won't be celebrating until I see what exactly the damage is going to be.
Although if it attracts more people, we will all seem to be Slayers guru. And we could lead all the little newbies and teach them then unleash them upon the unsuspecting world... yes... twisted

It's awesome already, even if some people don't like a certain Voice Actor. Let's just hope for the best. And you're right about us being Slayers gurus. It would be cool to finally be able to show off my Slayers knowledge to someone besides my family and friends, and have them be interested in it. whee
