I might be able to brew up something small with Rm2k3. It's not going to be great though since I still have a little trouble with the switches and the variable thing.

@KuroKenIchi: No worries man. I guess it would be easier if you followed rpgmaker from 95, 2000, to 2003. The 95 system wasn't that great, and when rm2k came out, it was like "wow!".
@meomistress: (There are rules about making sticky threads? eek -slowly pulls his hands away from the glue-)
Oh yeah, rmXP is available for download under one of the links, so you might give it a try. The charsets can actually be bigger/smaller (so for bigger sprites, it's very convenient.) Seems like you can also change opacity, colorbalance, and negatives for the sprites as well.
Also, on top of switches and variables (which are so fun to use, but yeah, confusing at first, I agree), they've added some scripting codes. Looks worst than switches and variables right now to me though, but I'll look into it. Heard you can make scrolling text and some really neat stuffs with those. smile
Have fun coding!

I started out using Rm2k back in like 2003 but I never made any games with it, I only played the fan made ones. I then moved up to Rm2k3 and I tried to make a game but it didn't work out to well. Now I have RmXP, Rm2k, and Rm2k3 and I have been practicing with all of them so I might be able to make a little game with Rm2k3.
I also agree that the scripting thing in RmXP is alot worse than the switches and variables. So I think I will probably stick with the smaller stuff first.

In my opinion RPGmaker 2003 is a lot better than XP. I simply do not like how they changed the battle system and the character designs are much harder to edit and such. Plus you can't display the picture in when a character is talking, I hate that! So I'm sticking with 2003.

Hm, I like rpg maker, but it's quite tough to implement a side-scroller with. I'm fine with custom manuals and all, but side scroller is something very hard to achieve with RM2k3.
I was thinking it may be possible with variables, not with char sets and all. (That means for the moving animation, you'll be using .bmp or .xyz files), and using a parallel event to handle that.
Have anyone tried the 3d engines yet? Not sure if they are commercialised DX

Hey do any of you all play RPG Maker 2000 or RPG Maker 2003 fan made games? If you do then have you heard of a game called A Blurred Line? Also check out this site. It's filled with resources and stuff. The forums are pretty interesting to. http://www.gamingw.net/

Hey, I know that site!
There was this period in time where a lot of rpg maker 2000 and 2003 sites got wiped out for some reason. And that was only one of the site I could find. (Luckily I have many many gig(? maybe meg) worth of rpg maker resources residing in my harddrive XD).
I tried many games, and there was one called "Dreamscape" which I like. Very sleek battle animetions, nice environment as well as storyline.
Can't find it now =(

It was because the English version of RPG Maker 2000 and RPG maker 2003 was illegal to download. So they shut down as many sites that had RPG Maker 2000 and RPG Maker 2003 for download. Or at least thats what I think. As for A Blurred Line, it's said by many popular RPG Maker 2000 and RPG Maker 2003 game makers that it's the best game made for RPG Maker 2000. Because of the story and the replay value but the graphics are a bit off. The creator Lysander86 who is also popular in the RPG Maker community still has not finished it yet. He still needs to finish the last demo for the game called Lines End. He has also made other very popular games to. Heres the game and there are some reviews here to. http://www.gamingw.net/games/8I have never played Dreamscape. Whats it like? I might be able to find it at GamingWorld or another place.

Well, the charset was from Rudra. There was a scene in a piano concert when the pianist got assassinated. (Were there actual vampires involved? The demo didn't last that long for us to find out.)
Some games give you the feeling that it's still RPG MAKER-ish, but Dreamscape doesn't. Heh.
Anyway, going to check out Blurred Lines, sounds pretty interesting. Kudos to the people who can make their custom battle engine out of the variables and switches. (I could only make a very simple one...)'

Hey, meomistress, what do you think of making a castlevania guild but with the guild members as the main cast?
