I AM sure that it is clear to everyone that this guild has been going through an extended period of hibernation. Sure, things are still ticking over well enough, but we're not exactly abuzz with excitement and activity.

All of you who are currently active are absolute champions, and you all put as much -- and in many case more -- of your time into this guild as I could ever hope!

However, we have a lot of inactive members, and of those most recent join requests I have received, I've had at best no response, at worst someone sounding terribly enthusiastic about a roleplay, asking to step in, posting one (or not at all), then losing all interest.

I am, in fact, so frustrated as to wish to wipe the slate -- mostly, at least -- clean, and start again.

Item 1: The Name.

We have a Name.

And that name is Word Play.

Item 2: What Stays, and What Goes?

My next concern is this: what of our meagre collection of roleplays can be pronounced dead? What shoudl stay and what should go in the OOC and the profiles?

What about the dead weight of inactive members?

Item 3: A New Look

Now we have a snazzy new name, how do we catch people's attention?

Design suggestions, and banners themselves will be deeply appreciated.

Item 4: Improving Day-To-Day Running of the Guild

What would be the most desirable way of distributing news, information and 'propaganda'?

New Roleplays -- what and how many should be thrown in by the crew? How can we encourage members to run their own? Should there be controls on how many of what type should be running at once, or should things be left to run their own course?

OOC and profiles -- Should these subforums be changed? How? One for all OOC-roleplaying related material, such as profiles, proposals and general talk and planning, and the other for general discussion, or some other arrangement?

Item 5: All That Stuff I've Forgotten

Of course there will be crucial points I have overlooked in this thread (for example, should I even be doing this in the first place). If you have other important things to add, please, please do!

Love you guys always!

We can post here, right? :0
Yes, I'ms a dork and I went through and answered em all in order-

Item 1-
Hrm.
Blackmarket Roleplay. xD
I dunno. I just like the underground kind of theme. No real ideas.

Item 2-
Dead- Demons and Holes?

Maybe send a R Corp newsletter saying that inactive members will be banned on a certain date? If you meant you were thinking about clearing the memberlist, that is. If not then nevermind xD

Item 3-
Well, I have a graphics shop. I could contribute some guild ones for free though.

Item 4-
The mule newsletters by friendslist PM are good for propaganda as long as you wait until there are several news items.

I think letting things run their own course as far as roleplays go would be best. No controls. Members will start to make more roleplays once there's activity. I don't think anything else is really gonna fix it. D: If they see activity and there are no controls on what they do, then I think they'd be more likely to try making one.

I like the subforums as they are. But splitting them into RP stuff and general ooc could be good too. xD

X3 Yea, the main idea of putting this up with questions in it was to get opinions and suggestions.

Ohmigosh! How embarrassing! I just noticed that I managed to write "their" where I meant "there"... -.-;;;;; I blame Spellcheck!

Ooh, underground theme... Could most certainly work!

EDIT: Hey, wait up! Your guild is the Literate Underground! =P

Demons could have been great, but the original GM posted it up... then buggered off. T^T

Yeah. Used to sorta be a guild. Literate Underground was a thing I was working on with a friend but then we never really did anything with it and let it die a couple months ago. xP Didn't really have much of an underground theme at all.

Err.. How about BLANK Faction or BLANK Society..? Or even BLANK School.

Or if there was a main roleplay that you would like the guild to put emphasis on, name it after that.

As for banners I'm on a paper and pencil run so I could sketch up some designs and poke someone nto cging it in and making it look snazzy. Or do a colab with Caustic if she wants to?

First up we need to think of a name.. xD

The changes are more cosmetic -- for promo purposes; so no, there will not be a main roleplay... there won't be much more than a cleanup and a facelift.

Hm... Society may have potential:

The Gentlemen's Roleplaying Society

has a ring to it I rather fancy, I suppose... *Laughs*

I'd shy away from Xyz School, because it is fairly common, I find it hard to take seriously, and it is too often linked with roleplaying of the more hentai-ish variety.

Speaking of not being taken seriously, I had an idea on the bus this afternoon, thinking about Caustic's Underworld theme:

Trenchcoats

"it was 2am. I was in one of the gritty, grubby bars of the Chatterbox district of town. The young, hip crowds had moved on, and the blacklights and DJ replaced with a mournful, smoky jazz piano. The barmaid was on one of the threadbare couches, making out with a customer, as I drained the last of my scotch. Taking a long drag on my cigarette, I ran through a mental checklist of my search so far.

I'd scoured Barton Town, picking through its trash and smut with a fine-tooth comb in the hope of finding that evasive gem -- but to no avail. I paused, musing on this, raising my cigarette again to my lips.

He was one elusive b*****d, I'll give him that.

Having exhausted all avenues in Barton, I went to check up with some of my contacts. Nikolai "One-Eye" Lobachevsky directed me toward the seething rabbit warren of the Gaia Guilds Network.

Now, let me tell you, that's one dirty little place, fuelled by sex and cash. There, it's sink or swim, and the aisles are clogged with dead bodies. I thought I'd found my guy, more than once, but each time I was wrong. I learned to check for a pulse before I launched in pretty quickly, but I soon found that those who survived there were brutal and cold, with the attention span of a gnat and the heart of a whore.

I began to wonder if what I was looking for even existed: I'd found things that came close, but my guy -- a good literate roleplay -- hadn't showed his face yet.

I started talking to people, and I realised that I wasn't the only one on this futile quest. So I thought, lighting another cigarette, why not bring those serious people together, and start something. Something to change the undebelly of this dirty little town. And so, I set up Trenchcoats, a society of literate, dedicated roleplayers.

We're looking for you. And you know it.

*Laughs* The above is just a bit of fun, not to be taken too seriously. I just can't help a bit of film noir-style narrative now and then...

I like the society option!! xD Although a more unisex name would probably be more.. Err.. "attractive" to all people. Otherwise they'll all think we're guys. o.o *shrug*

Although.. Talking on the dark theme (something I quite often go to in my rps) is interesting, as well as amusing! ^___^

EDIT: Thinking about it, the (Gentleman's) Society name would fit in with the current subforum naming. Just an afterthought.

A "Gentlemen's Society" carries an air of refinement. I'm not particularly concerned about it being unisex or not -- after all, Mina Harker was a member of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, was she not?

So, who is for the refinement of a Literate Society, who likes the humour of the film noir setting, and who says something else entirely?

*chants* Society!

xD

Ah.. It's good to be back. Finally switched to Orange and now all I've got to do is take turns for the computer with sister until dad comes back and sorts out the networking! ^___^

I don't like the Gentlemen's bit too much. It's okay. Just isn't something that would strike me as interesting I guess unless we exagerrated the whole refinement idea. xP Or maybe I just wanna make banners with monocles. ninja
"Gentlemen's Society" makes me think of a county club, or else a 'gentlemen's club' that so politely features 'entertainers.' xD

It'd be cool if we could combine the idea of film noir and a refined kind of secret society group.

(Oh, and I spilt tea on my laptop and fried the logic board. o.x It'll be another week or so before I get it back. So I've had kind of off and on computer access lately.

I'm posting in assumption that things are still being worked on here and did not die like my laptop D smile

Hehehe I spill tea on my lap a lot because I generally drink it when I'm half asleep. xD Well... I spend half my time in a dream-like state.. Hehe, so I often spill tea. The keyboard in the hall is all sticky and the left Ctrl button doesn't work anymore. ^__^;;

~But yeah, secret society sounds good... Like an underground one that's activities have been "banned" by local authorities? (>_> I'm a part-time historian.. xD And although I don't enjoy politics too much it plays a massive part in most periods... At the moment I happen to be studying Russia.)

Yea, everything is still going.

Whatever we do, it is my intent that it shall be hugely over-exaggerated ^^

Underground secret society sounds smashing, but can you give me an original name? Particularly looking for ideas from you Mr Historian. ;p

Lol, I prefer the title; "Artistic Historian Who-likes-computer-programming-and-also-studies-businesses"

xD Depends what kind of era and "country" you would like this society to be based in really. I think that it shouldn't be futuristic as such, but not medieval (T-T). Something like the time Bugsy Malone (I was watching that last night.. xD I've still got the songs stuck in my head) was set in.
PostPosted: Wed Sep 20, 2006 4:42 pm

My opinion at this precise point in time counts for little, as my head is full of Cowboy Bebop and Firefly. >_<

If we want to blend secret society with a twist of noir, then I guess you'er looking at something resembling an American city at some point between the 30s up to perhaps even the 50s.

Hey, Bugsy Malone's that film made in the seventies with the kids as the gangsters, right?
