Anthony Timmons :: Shattered Mind Character Info (Basics) DOB: 08/15/1980 (looks older though) Gender: Male Hair Color: Red Eye Color: Brown (I know they look orange in the pic -.-; sorry)
Physical Appearance: Anthony is about the height of any average male- 5"7-5"8, but with a somewhat stout build, and he appears quite muscular with clothes on (though in reality he is not). It can be assumed that he was always meant to be of a more thick figure, as is evident in a few of his more noticeable, and awkward, attributes: the box jaw, the big nose, the large hands and feet, and the clumsy broad shoulders These features make his otherwise 'average' build graceless, if not a little displeasing, and a 'thicker' look about him.
Anthony, though not terribly, unthinkably, ugly,is not exactly handsome either. His face, while likeable enough, is none too romantically pleasing: His red hair is usually unkempt, his eyesbrows are thick and clunky, his nose is large and pudgy, and thick lips. The usual frown or even scowl on his face doesn't help to lighten these flaws, either.
Perhaps one of Anthony's only physical savings are his eyes, and yet they are not miraculous either. They each contain a light brown iris that often reflects the red tones in his hair (giving it an orange appearance)- which, while not a necessarily pleasing color by itself, does seem to glow and draw attention to his eyes from under such dark, heavy eyebrows.
Personality It is hard to describe Anthony's personality in this post alone. One will have to read the posts below to get a full picture (also reading example RPs is the best idea for that heart )
For a general idea- to any outsider who is not familiar with him, the first sights of him in a crowded or social event will practically scream lack of self-confidence. An unsure and confused, if not slightly pessimistic, expression usually fixiates on his face, and a nervous habit- rubbing his arm or picking at buttons/book bindings- will rear it's ugly head for all to scrutinize over.
He is not a child, however, and can hold his own in such outings. Though constantly tense and unsure-seeming, Anthony is capable of carrying himself through many conversations. His comments, however, are usually examples wry, dry senses of humor or cynical, depressing sayings and opinions of the world. It is no surprise, then, that Anthony's best conversations have been on political and world affairs, philosophy, and literature- if given more sensitive topics, that of a personal nature, he will be quick to change the subject.
On a one-on-one basis, Anthony can be quite an enigma. He shows signs of being, or at least wanting to be, a sincere, caring person. He also can be surprisingly playful if caught in the right mood. However, he usually remains strong in his pessimistic views. Should the second party try to delve too deep, or start becoming to close to him, Anthony is sure to push them back with a snide and hurtful remark. Thus, his relationships with people on a single basis, at least for a while, is that of a push-and-pull nature. He wants to have good friends and be a good friend in return, but is reluctant and afraid of such deep relationships.
For all of Anthony's venom, however, he has no bite: he is a push over if asked sincerely enough (or not so sincerely) for a kind favor or helping hand, and is also quite a coward. He wishes to avoid serious physical confrontation.
Other flaws in Anthony's character include lack of motivation- often starting a project and then leaving it unfinished- and bouts of apathy that are probably more linked to his condition than anything..
Because of his condition, Anthony will sometimes act innapropriately for certain situations. More often than not, he'll appear uncaring, though sometimes he will laugh/smile in situations or moments where it is either inappropriate or where nothing funny has been said/done (this does not happen often, but it happens occassionally). Sometimes he will become confused over new information or situations. If his condition deteriorates enough, he may also start to babble in a "word salad"- which can range from simply a slightly incoherent speech, with a jump of topic here and there, to completely incoherent speech.
One of Anthony's strong points is normally being able to keep a fairly level head around people and in certain situations. He does not anger very quickly, and tends to try not to jump to conclusions. He is also unusually forgiving, or at least not one to downright hate people very easily (for many reasons: his knowledge of psychology, his expectations of evil in humanity from the start, and his actual push-over nature being some of them).
Despite being a fairly controlled person, he's not without his outbursts. Anthony is prone to becoming frustrated, and will sometimes throw little, controlled tantrums when he is (ie: slamming a door). Usually he will be frustrated at himself or his condition, though he may become frustrated at current situations (IE: being stuck on the island XD) or people. Such frustrated outbursts may sometimes lead to a much longer backlash of apathy in him.
History: Anthony was born to a mother and father, the Timmons. The mother, when Antony was still a baby, left. As such, Anthony had to be raised alone by his father- who suffered from an unchecked, form of schizophrenia paranoia: "where delusions and hallucinations are present but thought disorder, disorganized behavior, and affective flattening is absent" (Anthony would later in life grow into his own subtype of schizophrenia- disorganized schizophrenia, just the opposite of his father). Anthony's father would sometimes force him into bestiality with neighborhood animals- but no other signs of abuse have ever been recorded (not like that's not bad enough).
Taken by social services at around the age of ten, Anthony was placed in a foster home. During that time, his father committed suicide.
Anthony was placed in his first psychiatrist's office a few days later, and, at the time, was diagnosed, along with obvious cases of depression and some issues with his father, with 'agoraphobia' ("An abnormal fear of open or public places."), which, according to the doctor, could only be cured by desensitization. After a few sessions to work out some issues with his father, the psychologist got Antony into a chess club and a reading group at his school, eventually weening him into a debate team as well. These afterschool activities not only helped to raise young Antony's self-esteem, but also would greatly help his mental health and status later in life.
Young Anthony, though always a little "off", did not seem to suffer from blatant warning signs of developing schizophrenia later in life , especially after gaining respect and acceptance amongst his peers. While he lacked in some motivation, especially getting good grades in school, he balanced with motivation in other areas- such as chess. He lacked being able to form many close relationships with his peers, but he had enough acquiantance-friends to still be invited to social gatherings from time to time.
Anthony eventually went to community college where he studied in many areas only half-way, often dropping his major and going for another. At one point or another he was going to major in: Theology, psychology, philosophy, architecture, and social studies. He finally graduated with a major in Literature, with no defined minor.
Outside of college, there was little change. It was becoming increasingly apparent to that he simply lacked motivation. He drifted from job to job- he had at least 3 months as a register clerk, a librarian, a teacher's aide, a secretary, and a janitor. At one point he tried to write a book, but did not finish.
He remained steady in his love for chess and mindless "smart" talks, however. Eventually, and by luck, he found himself accepted into a crowd of college professors, writers, and intellectuals in general that had meetings (parties, if you will) from time to time that gave Anthony some purpose and reinforced what chess club and debate team did for him in school. While he was not the most renowned, well-read, or most-liked person at such outings, he was always generally accepted and would, from time to time, offer good inputs into current talks and debates.
It was then Anthony was offered a job as a personal assistant/librarian by a local professor who attended the social events. Antony would keep that job until the onset of his illness. The reason for his ability to keep up with the job, while failing at so many similiar areas, remains a mystery (but has never been questioned).
Anthony's schizophrenia began to develop suddenly- at the age of 25, nearly 2 years ago. He lost all motivation, even for the things he loved. He no longer played chess, attended any parties or meetings, and little by little, stopped coming to his job. Aquiantances of Antony, and the professor who had hired him, described him in the early stages of developement as "unusually aloof, "apathetic", "strange" and "confused seeming".
Without a word to anyone, a few months after the shift in his personality, Antony left town.
Two months after his dissapearance, Anthony found himself in a pscyhiatrist's office again, some one hundred miles from his hometown. He set up his own appointment with some difficulty- a good sign all in all, but by the time he got into the office, it was clear Anthony could no longer think normally: he slipped into being a strange and confused man, and when he did speak or write, it was in a near incoherent "word salad". If he did have frustrations about it, he could not express it in tone or facial expression at the time.
With therapy and medication, Anthony returned to 'normalcy'- or at least as close to normal as he would ever get. No longer having the ability to 'tune out' things (IE: tuning out conversations in a resturaunt so that you can only listen to the conversation you are in) or concentrate on one thought, Anthony found Chess extremely more difficult than when he left it. Besides that, he had a condition which few people understand.
However, he has never since had a terrible relapse and has managed to keep it under control. The disease still affects who he is, and how he thinks and acts sometimes, but it is not the sole point of his being.
Other stuff:
Okay, well, first of all, Anthony is like a walking thesaurus. In speech, and in writing, he will often reiterate the same noun or adjective, only using a different word, in the same sentence. Example "Well then, according to your "theorum", I suppose it is to be believed, infered, swallowed, accepted, and bought that the crisis was, at it's core, actually caused by an utter lack of human compassion, mercy, pity, and tenderheartedness. What else is new. We as humans already know the evils in man's heart- we need not be ridiculed by your explanatory "theorums" that are completely unnecessaery. That was an extremely ignorant, illiterate, uneducated, unversed commentary. You bore me, honestly- don't you have anything worth mulling over?" As stated earlier, he has a few nervous ticks as well: if he's not rubbing his arm, he'll be picking at buttons/grass/threads, or, if his journal is with him, he'll be picking at it's spiral binding.
Another thing is, while he usually talks with a rich vocabulary, every now and then he'll 'slip' with words like "aint", "fer", and, more commonly, "y'know?".
Anthony carries around a beaten, black spiral notebook with him most everywhere. He is VERY protective of it, and takes precautions to keep it close to him. He even puts it under his pillow when he sleeps at night.
Anthony loves playing Chess, but can not always concentrate on the game. Nothing makes him more frustrated than to try to play Chess while he can't filter other thoughts/goings ons out, but he still tries anyway. He plays with himself, though- too ashamed to play with people now that he always loses.
Anthony may sometimes start playing with a long piece of black string. He can do Cat's cradle, eiffel tower, etc. etc. It's one of the few things he can really do anymore, and so it gives him some comfort to play such a childish game. He feels a little embarassed to play with the string in public because it is indeed childish. However, when he is feeling more playful or is with a person who is a little less mature, especially if it is a one-on-one meeting, Anthony is more than likely to show off his talents and share some of his string wisdom.
As far as intelligence goes, Anthony is obviously above average, but he is nothing very special. He sounds much smarter than he is because of his vocabulary.
Anthony is terrible at Mathematics, now more than ever.
Anthony, on his long-range radio, listens to the BBC and NPR almost every day. He also enjoys classical music and jazz.
Anthony often goes on long walks alone, regardless the time of day.
Anthony's favorite author is Kurt Vonnegut.
Anthony doesn't drink or do any drugs, but does not particularly seem to be an activist against doing excess of either :3 he has also never done the deed with a human woman.
Anthony refers to himself as an atheist, but will often talk of God as if (s)he were ignorant/dead/asleep rather than if (s)he never existed.

Are there any specific characters you Really want to interact with?: anyone! surprised ! probably better'n readin the bio anyway, here are some RP EXAMPLES.
Rp/story samples
1. RP with Kimari and his character Tristan First RP ever- sort of feeling out Antony's character. Here he's a bit more..push-you-away than he is now, or else you could just say here he's in a particularly grumpy mood XD who knows?
Basically, don't take this RP to be all that Anthony's worth, because I've tweaked his persona bit since then.
Quote: Kimari As the scene came up, suddenly Tristan started saying out loud some of the lines right in synch with the movie, crying "Just a flesh wound!" which drew some attention from others also in the room. Enjoying the movie, Tristan wondered what else might happen in this crazy place, especially seeing as it looked as if Nick had drifted off to sleep, curled up on the end of the couch. Antony Timmons He wasn't sure about this.
An awkward, tired looking man let his brown eyes search over the vicinity before him. He looked hopelessly lost, the sort of dejected awkwardness of one lost in an unforgiving sand dune: a slightly slacked jaw released unsaid words of insecurity, and still large, thick eyebrows, bent down flat expressed a cynical expectation of the outcome.
His large hands kept themselves busy almost indepently of the man- twittering here and there, looking for things to do while the other parts of his body sat idley by. They plucked nervously at the cheap, silver spiral binding of a black notebook that was tucked under his left armpit most of the time, but at other points, the right hand would find itself ruffling his already untidy red hair, rubbing the opposite arm, or fiddling with a black tie that was only loosely hanging from a white collared shirt. The left hand, attached to an arm that had to remain stationary for the notebook, had to content itself with plucking at the nearest pocket of the man's black dress pants.
He stepped inside, and looked around, his expression finding no lax in the modern convienences before him. His hands were back to playing with the spiral notebook before he briskly began taking steps towards the back of the rec room.
There he hovered, awkwardly. He would lean around, crane his neck, search for something he couldn't seem to find.
"Excuse me." He spoke up, unsure- not looking towards anyone in general, but speaking to be heard. He turned to the general populace of the room: those around the television, watchin god-knows-what. "ain't there-...isn't there... a chess board anywhere?"
Despite any awkwardness emitted by how he carried himself, his voice, even when tumbling into more demeaning speeches, was stable enough.
(hope I can join?) Kimari Tristan looked up as the new fellow wandered into the room. After hearing his request, he directed him over to the shelf full of games. Offering a pseudo-salute, "hey I'm Tristan, you new here too?" In the backgound, the banter of the peasents going on about how being given a sword by some lady in a pond is no way to determine a system of government. (feel free to join in, any threads with ORP are apparently open to anyone who wants to join in) Antony Timmons Antony nodded at the gesture, and his footsteps passed over towards the shelf. He inspected it silently for a moment before reluctantly replying the boy's welcome.
"..yeah." He said gruffly as he pulled out a box that contained a chess board and its pieces. He didn't bother to say anything more on the subject in return, to politely introduce himself, for example.
Instead, he looked over reluctantly to the television, at the strange happenings of British comedy. His eyes followed the TV as his body independently made its way to the nearest empty table in the back. He used his free hand to put down his spiral notebook on the seat, so that, when he sat down, he sat on the notebook too.
Once sitting, he took a moment to pass a finger over his lips, as if contemplating. He opened his mouth and shut it, shifted in his chair. He finally spoke: " I see you're amused by ridiculous, foolish, undignified drivel. " a pause, "Enjoy yourself."
He looked at the chess game silently. There was no way he could concentrate enough to play against himself here. There was simply no tuning out things in his mind. The British Comedy would always be ambling in his thoughts so long as he stayed. But he might not be allowed to take the game out of the recreation room. Angering the staff, or worse Moreau, outweighed any sentiments he might have for Tristan.
"Could you turn it off?" He asked, seemingly unaffected by his earlier statement.
((ooh, I was wondering what "ORP" meant, haha)) Kimari "well, I suppose so" Sauntering over to turn off the TV and put the movie away, still heartily amused by just how strange the day was turning out and thinking how if every day was like this then he sure was going to lead an interesting life. So what if what the cat-boy (whom he had managed to compeltely forget to ask his name) was right, it'd still be way better than having to worry about a day job and all the junk that came along with it. Wandering up to the newcomer, "so what're you here for? on the Island I mean?" Antony Timmons Antony's brow furrowed as the boy reacted just the opposite as he might have foreseen. His lips tightened and his glance darkened as the new stranger made attempts to become an acquaintance.
He had to play this one right. He wanted to stay and play chess, but he couldn't let the boy get too close. He didn't want to start a fight, either, but he certainly couldn't have this boy talking to him if he was to concentrate.
He couldn't lose this first move, however- this first encounter on the island. He couldn't be passive, nor could he be too aggressive, or else all was lost.
It was a delicate situation, fluttery and unpredictable...it was...
..Chess.
He began to lay out the board and it's pieces before him. The scattering of colors, black, white, black, white, a chromatic pattern of order to envy and love. It was a type of peace and organization he would never be able to achieve, but he could always be near.
"I'm here because I was trying to get away from imbelices, cretins, half-wits, and changelings." His bright eyes peered at Tristan from underneath a cynical brow, "it seems I failed."
He pushed a black pawn into place.
He then sat up, taking his notebook protectively with him, and sat down at the other end of the chess board- contemplating how to beat himself. As he thought, he rocked back and forth slightly, his hands twittering and plucking at the notebook. His eyes averted often from the game to Tristan in a most unsettling manner.
Kimari "Heh, well last I checked there were none of the above around here" chuckling "and changelings? why would you think you'd find one of those round here? I'm pretty sure they're only round in europe, though I could be wrong" Taking up a perch on the back of one of the couches he looked on at Antony, noticing the glares he got in return. After a few minutes of simply watching, he pull out a notebook from his vest and starts writing something in it, every so often glancing about the room, taking in the sights. Antony Timmons "I was using the archaic meaning, definition, of the word 'changeling'. " He said without anger or much emotion at all. He moved a white pawn clumsily to meet the dark challenger ahead. He picked up his own notebook and stood up to return to the black set, but paused a moment to notice Kimari's notebook as well. He arched an eyebrow, seemingly interested, but said nothing on it- and moved on, sitting on his own notebook as he sat down on the other end of a table.
He repeated the same motions as he did for the white board: he rocked slightly, and looked not lost in thought but distracted all the time. Distracted by Tristan's presence, by his notebook, by the turned off television, by the very walls and floors and chairs and tables and florescent lights that hummed and hummed and hummed and...
He sighed slightly. A flat "fine, whatever,y'know?" escaped with the exhaled air. His hands ruffled his hair and rubbed his face.
He moved another black pawn into place with such force it made a " THUD" echo through the rec room. Kimari Looking up from his notebook, and through his scruffy hair just in time to see Anthony slam the pawn onto the board, Tristan thought to himself Heh, a tantrum? I wonder what could've set that off.....he must be here for something a little less physical than I am. Too bad, he looks like he'd be a bit of fun if he wasnt so ......churlish?, yup that sounds like its about right Giving Antony a 'I know something you dont, and its quite amusing' grin, Tristan quietly jumps down from his perch on the couch, ignoring the pain that shoots up through his battered legs. Drifting past the table, on route to a comfy chair on the other side of the room, he consideres mentioning what Nick told him to Anthony but decides against it, as he hadnt been able to confirm any of what he said, aside from the boy's part-cat state, but even so it was possible that none of it was actually true. Still, it would make an interesting story, something to think about.... Antony Timmons Seeing Tristan move away with a taunting grin, Antony scowled. His face turned slightly red from the small outburst of his, and he silently, as Tristan turned away, took out his notebook from beneath his body. Taking a pen from his pocket, he scribbled something down on the paper- quickly, frantically. The sound of harsh paper to pen sounded for nearly sixty seconds, an then stopped.
He stared at the words a moment and sighed. He closed the tattered book, putting his pen away, and his fidgety fingers drummed on the table as he looked at the chess game, at the couch, at that boy's head.
What did he know? Did the Tristan boy know about it? The florescent lights hummed and hummed his fingers 'drummed' and 'drummed'. Remember that one time he tripped and fell? In one of the Bard's best-thought-of tragedies, our insistent hero, Hamlet, queries on two fronts about how life turns rotten? Remember that one time....? Humming...
What did that boy know?
He wasn't even far into the game and it was already a mess. He was sloppy- moving that particular black pawn would lead to only an easy victory for the white pawn over it's first adversary. He moved the white pawn more intelligently, but was not very interested in finishing the game.
what did he know? Did he know about it? Did he know?
Perhaps Antony was being paranoid. a common feeling, he reminded himself- he wasn't going down THAT road.
Still.
He peered up and left the table, hovering slightly for a moment. He looked at the boy's head.
He didn't know anything. Nothing more than anyone else would know.
It was best not to take the line, not to talk until spoken to.
"hmph." he grumbled, his quick footsteps leading towards the door of the rec room. With one last look towards the boy on the couch, and muttering, just loudly enough: "imbecile." He left.
(gtg now, thanks very much! This is my first RP with him, so it was interesting to work out some things. thanks again~ Tristan seems like a really cool charrie- can really push Antony's buttons XD I hope they meet again.)
2. Noncannon RP with Ecavi and her IODM charrie Lily My friend Ecavi graciously offered to RP her character Lily with the NEW AND IMPROVED (tm) Anthony.
Quote: The sky was a gradient of gold and pink as a large, orange sun began to set over the distant horizon. The inner workings of the island, the jungle part- came alive. Nocturnal bugs began to start their buzzing, their chirping, while birds began to to twitter good nights into the air. It was the music of one world settling and another beginning- a twilight of ecosystems and lives.
The river, however, always remained the same- night or day it cast a sweet song throughout its surroundings. Fireflies now danced playfully around its surface, but it was more or less the same.
Along the stream was a rather disheveled looking man ambling about. Though his posture and steps were confident enough, his face looked lost, distracted, and cynical. His hair and his clothes were unkempt. He was the very reflection of a castaway, a real, non-experimented on castaway, one who, after weeks alone on an island, has given up on their chances of survival.
In his thick hands was a long piece of string. He looped it through his fingers as he walked along, seemingly doing so completely subconsciously- for his eyes were always on everything else around him. In and out, weaving through his fingers were intricate, symmetrical designs. It was this time of day that one semi-nocturnal creature had been waiting for. The farther she got in her transformation, the more inclined Lily felt to come out in the later hours of the days and stay in during the early. This was partially due to the tempurature and humidity during the day, it was nice in the evening by the river, and that was where the frog-woman had taken herself. She was sitting with her long orange toes dipped in the water when the sound of someone walking about reached her. Ever paranoid, she seemed on constant alert- she didn't know what she'd do if she ran into someone changing into something dangerous, particularly those who'd been so threatening when she'd been revealed. When she looked she found that it was no one she recognized coming along the stream, but a stranger. He didn't appear to be doing well for himself, though he also didn't appear to be in the midst of a change yet. She sat still on the banks of the river, watching him with wide red eyes but waiting to see what he did before reacting further. Maester Sanara: At first, his light brown eyes passed over unusual crimson optics nonchalantly, oblivious to their true being. After all, it was not uncommon to see animals in the wilderness. He acted for a few moments as if to pass on, his glance already distracted towards something else. However, within a second's time he did a double-take, his brow furrowing as he looked at it again. He footsteps came to an awkward halt, his fingers stopped in their busy-work and he just stared.....
He blinked, and raised his hand in a small wave, breaking the black labirynth between his palms. "ehmmmm..." he raised an eyebrow, "salutations?" he said politely enough- though as it dawned on him he was in the presence of another, he began to look slightly nervous, a little awkward. He shifted his weight slightly and rubbed his left arm with his right hand, once lowering it from the wave. Lily was about to turn back to look at the water when she saw he passed her by as if she was simply a part of nature, which she wouldn't find hard to believe- he may no know what's going on and she doesn't look like anything particularly threatening so she'd be easy to not think twice on. However, she was. When he did a double-take, she noticed, and frowned. "Hello," she returned the greeting, her voice toneless really, "New here?" Might as well get some questions in. The man squinted his eyes a little, seemed confused at the girl's words for a moment- it took him a moment to respond. His eyes, while mostly kept on her- did avert every now and then to other things. A drop in the pond, a bird fluttering off.
"Umm..yes. I believe- I am. I am new, eh..fresh, green, to this island."
an awkawrd pause.
"I suppose by that glowing, amphibious look about you, that you're not, eh?" he stared at her through dark, low eyebrows. His tone was a little less sensitive than it could be.
Lily raised an eyebrow at the man's odd expression for a moment, but decided of all the strange things on the island this was not one of the stranger ones. There were people of all kinds here, after all. When he responded, she only nodded for her own response and allowed the awkward pause to reign. She was a bit surprised when he recognized that she was part frog because of the island. Perhaps she'd found someone new, but not ignorant. She wasn't even surprised by his lack of sensitivity, most were not pleased when they discovered that they were being turned into animals. "No, I'm not new here," she replied, staring back. "Ah.." he nodded to her, balancing on the balls of his feet for a moment, and then becoming flat again. He had already met some changed figures on the island- but it still never failed to bother him somewhat... it only reminded him of his grim future here as well.
He began to make a cat's cradle in his hands, his eyes off of the strange frog girl as he spoke to her again: "I suppose seniority is nothing to celebrate, rejoice, or become very gladden about here..." his eyes went back to her, "on the hunt for fireflies, are you?" "No, I don't suppose it is," she agreed with him whole-heartedly, considering her seniority for length of time on the island was more than one might expect, she knew it wasn't much to be proud of. She watched him do cat's cradle quietly for a moment, then with a sharp breath in she looked to his face. "No, I'm just out enjoying the water," she answered finally, "Part of becoming a nocturnal frog." There was a pause, and she seemed to be in conflict with herself. She should tell him now and not 'hide' the truth- it'd gotten her into trouble before, perhaps giving the option of being in contact with her or not would earn her some points. She had never really spoken to the islanders since the incident, and while she didn't expect it was a hot topic anymore she expected she wasn't so welcome. If he had the ability to concentrate more, Anthony may have noticed the frog-girl's reluctance, the obvious look and aura of someone trying to hide something. It was, after all, something he knew quite well himself. However, because his mind was elsewhere- on the buzzings, the stream that was always flowing, the fireflies that danced with lights, the cradle that was of a cat's, the ever soft breeze of leaves, and the drops of water from condensation on the leaves- he could not take the concentration to notice it and emphathize.
"ah," he replied again, this time responding more hastily with more questions: "is it agonizing? The transformations, I mean. How malicious, malign, and cruel do they tend to be?" a hint of worry wafted in his voice as the words slipped off his tongue in surprising speed, but he regained himself with a short, awkward cough. Lily was pushed briefly from her thoughts by his many questions, though they quickly reminded her of her own knowledge of it and how it had been acquired. This was something someone had said, right? She should have been honest and used what she knew to help them, ease them somehow. If there was anyway to do so, it would be by answering these questions- though really, there were so many out there now who'd be able to answer. "Well, it varies depending on the person and the animal they're becoming," she replied finally, "Mine are more uncomfortable than outright agonizing. Though I believe some of the mammalian transformations are quite excruiciating." Honest, she had to be honest. It wasn't going to help his worry too much, she guessed, but it was an obvious answer, she felt. The man didn't look too shocked at Lily's soft, reluctant reply. Rather his face had already reacted from the near start of his questions: cynical, annoyed, if not slightly afraid, though it was hard to tell.
"I ...understand." he heaved a heavy sigh, letting loose his cat's cradle and wrapping up the black string string around his left hand. He shook his head slightly, a scowl across his face. "Where is God in places like this? Deceased, or else ignorant, aloof, niave.... " He said to the night air. "Why do you all even insist on living?" he said darkly to the frog girl. Lily isn't surprised by his reaction, or his words. His last question in particular was no surprise to her, for she'd been wondering something along the same lines herself. She shook her head, "Believe what you will about God, but I think most living here hold onto some hope that they will be rescued. That perhaps it could be undone or even just seeing family again." That was what had kept her going, she supposed. Having worked on the things herself, she had some hope that there would be a way to undo it. Even simple logic said that, maybe, if they could turn you into a wolf, dog, frog, or anything else, then they should be able to turn you into a human. Anthony shrugged at the girl's comment, but seemed to think it over for a second- or at least think about it while being distracted by some dancing fireflies.
Who did he have to hope to see again? The firflies twirled and tumbled, the water made a rushing noise. It was gone.
"I'm reminded of the holocaust.." he said, his hands, not occupied by string anymore, were plucking unconsciously at the buttons of his vest. "But then again, they had a better chance of being found than we do..."
He looked over at Lily, unsure what to say. A few questions and comments still whirled in his buzzing mind, but he left it there. Lily flinched at the comparison, but nodded slowly, "I suppose that's a fine way to put it. We are fairly well hidden here, it seems. But if the staff can get on and off the island, and keep bringing people, perhaps there's some hope others may find it." She paused and looked back to the water, wondering when she'd become so hopeful. There was a lot to be pessimistic about, but that left a lot of room for hope. Anthony pressed his lips together, "perhaps...", he paused, and smiled faintly, "perhaps."
The stars were beginning to shine now, the jungle was shrowded in deep blues and grays.
"Well, Ms. Kermit." the faint smile still gleamed at her, "it has been...enlightening-" the smile faded as he turned in an obvious motion to start going, "just an iota."
..and he set off, never so much as asking her name or giving his own.

Antony Timmons :: Shattered Mind Understanding Schizophrenia & Antony's Case Note: I get many contradicting descriptions of Disorganized Schizophrenia from the web. Some websites say it is a disease that DOES have hallucinations, however, in my actual, physical psychology book it claims that the Disorganized subtype does not usually suffer these symptoms. Anthony, therefore, does not suffer from Delusions or Hallucinations. He is not paranoid. He simply: * Cannot filter out things (the most noticeable symptom ATM)- ie: if he's in a crowd, he can't really fix his mind on ONE conversation going on. * May sometimes act innapropriately to situations (ie: showing no emotion when the time calls to be emotional, laughing during a epiteth). * if it deteriorates enough, he may begin to babble/speak in a "word salad" The more normal backlashes of having these symptoms are signs of apathy, depression, and frustration. His medication and therapy, however, help keep these symptoms under control. There may even be times where he seems completely cured (as in the past, it's been documented some patients (wrongly) stop taking their medications under the belief they've been cured). Admittedly the disease is chronic and fluctuates in it's severity, and I will try to RP that realistically but not go overboard >_<. Schizophrenia Schizophrenia is a psychiatric diagnosis that describes a mental disorder characterized by impairments in the perception or expression of reality and by significant social or occupational dysfunction. A person experiencing untreated schizophrenia is typically characterized as demonstrating disorganized thinking, and as experiencing delusions or auditory hallucinations. Although the disorder is primarily thought to affect cognition, it can also contribute to chronic problems with behavior and emotion. The term schizophrenia translates roughly as "shattered mind," and comes from the Greek σχίζω (schizo, "to split" or "to divide") and φρήν (phrēn, "mind"). Despite its etymology, schizophrenia is not synonymous with dissociative identity disorder, also known as multiple personality disorder or "split personality"; in popular culture the two are often confused. Although schizophrenia often leads to social or occupational dysfunction, there is little association of the illness with a predisposition toward aggressive behavior. --- Disorganized Schizophrenia Disorganized schizophrenia is a subtype of schizophrenia as defined in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. This type is characterized by prominent disorganized behavior and speech (see formal thought disorder), and flat or inappropriate emotion and affect. Furthermore, the criteria for the catatonic subtype of schizophrenia must not have been met. This type of schizophrenia is also known as ********* the paranoid subtype of schizophrenia, delusions and hallucinations are not the most prominent feature, although fragmentary delusions and hallucinations may be present. The emotional responses of people diagnosed with this subtype can often seem strange or inappropriate to the situation. Inappropriate facial responses may be common and behavior is sometimes described as 'silly'. Complete lack of expressed emotion is sometimes seen, as is an apparent indifference, anhedonia (the lack of pleasure), and avolition (a lack of motivation). Some of these features are also present in other types of schizophrenia, but they are most prominent in Disorganized Schizophrenia. This form of schizophrenia is typically associated with early onset (often between the ages of 15 and 25 years) and is thought to have a poor prognosis because of the rapid development of 'negative' symptoms and decline in social functioning.1 Disorganized schizophrenia is thought to be an extreme expression of the 'disorganization syndrome' that has been hypothesised to one aspect of a three-factor model of symptoms in schizophrenia2. The other factors being 'reality distortion' (involving delusions and hallucinations) and 'psychomotor poverty' (poverty of speech, lack of spontaneous movement and various aspects of blunting of emotion). symptoms Signs and Symptoms Early signs of schizophrenia may not be noticed by family and friends. People who suffer from schizophrenia sometimes display one or more of the following symptoms in the early stages of the illness: * prolonged feelings of tension * sleeplessness * poor concentration * social withdrawal * personality change As the disorder progresses, the symptoms become more intense and bizarre. The person develops peculiar behavior, begins talking nonsense and has unusual perceptions. These more severe symptoms are usually the reason for seeking treatment. Preoccupations are thoughts that take on more importance in the sufferer’s mind than they normally would. The same though returns often and can become unrealistic. This may include a preoccupation with health, or “doing the right thing”. Disordered thinking interferes with planning, motivation and communication. For example, a person may use words that make no sense, or jump from one thought to another unrelated thought. Social withdrawal causes the schizophrenic to seek isolation. This may include an intolerance of being in crowds, small gatherings or even with just one other person. Lack of motivation and emotion as well as apathy are symptoms, which are troubling for family members to see in their loved ones. Few people experience all these symptoms at once. Some may occur during the remission phase and may worsen in the most active phase of the disorder. --- People with schizophrenia go through periods of getting better and worse --- remission and relapse. They can go for long periods of time without any symptoms, but because schizophrenia is often a chronic illness, it requires ongoing medical attention, like hypertension or diabetes. Myths Myths "Any person with schizophrenia is incapable of making life decisions and requires the help of a legal guardian.” The diagnosis of schizophrenia does not mean that the person will always be dependent upon others to make decisions and care for them. In fact, most people with this illness handle their own affairs successfully. However, just as people with other medical conditions may have symptoms that cause periods when their ability to make decisions is impaired, people with schizophrenia may require the appointment of someone to handle their affairs for a specified length of time. "Smoking ‘pot’ can help sometimes more than regular medicine.” This is a myth. The use of any illicit drug is dangerous and illegal, no matter who uses them. For people with schizophrenia, such use can impair judgment, worsen symptoms and cause interactions with medications. People with schizophrenia often have difficulty with healthy social interaction. Being with people who use or sell drugs can place an already vulnerable person in a potentially dangerous position. For these reasons, it is important to inform the treating psychiatrist of any substance abuse or use. He or she will recommend steps to take to avoid illicit drug use and deal with the reasons why the medication appears not to help. "People with schizophrenia are violent.” Violence is not a symptom of schizophrenia and is not common in people with this disorder. In fact, people with schizophrenia are more likely to become victims of violence themselves. However, if violence or aggression occurs, it usually does when a person feels cornered or misunderstands the intentions of the other person. Usually hallucinations, delusions, preoccupations or jumbled thoughts have caused the fears and misunderstandings that lead to violence. Antony Timmons :: Shattered Mind The Chimera What is a Chimera?Chimera info In Greek mythology, the Chimera (Greek Χίμαιρα; Latin Chimaera) is a monstrous creature made of the parts of multiple animals. Chimera was one of the offspring of Typhon and Echidna. Descriptions vary – some say it had the body of a goat, the tail of a snake or dragon and the head of a lion" Ref Pics of Chimera: [X][x][x]
Ref Pics of Black Mamba (tail): [x] [x]
Ref Pics of Billy Goat (body or hind legs/ neck): [x][x][x]
Ref Pics of African Lion (head or head/ upper torso): [x]
Why a Chimera? As someone who suffers from and has learned to deal with being unable to filter out numerous thoughts/things at once, Anthony is a good choice for a Chimera because the snake tail will add strange, new, and conflicting sensories to his being (read 'Chimera Anatomy' below).
Chimera anatomy One word: AWKWARD and PAINFUL.
The anatomy I have in mind is that of a Lion's head and upper torso, but a goat's neck(hidden by mane)/hind quarters (willing to just have body be all goat), with a quasi-black mamba for a tail.
As one can imagine, there'll be a few problems. Firstly: The lion's head is simply heavier than what a goat's neck/torso was meant to hold. Anthony will probably experience neck/back problems from such a thing, and may even need a brace of sorts.
If the upper torso/front legs are that of a lion's, and the back legs that of a goat, then balancing/walking will even harder. Anthony may have to resort to walking on all fours, and even then it will be difficult.
The quasi-black mamba, sprouting from the spinal cord of Anthony, will be painful to grow, and once fully grown- an annoyance. The snake does not have any eyes but it has a tongue (thus can smell) and it can sense touch, and it BITES anything that it comes into contact with. It bites anyone and everyone, especially Anthony. (Snake does not have any veom, I should think). A muzzle might have to be placed on it 83..
On this note, the snake is more like a mindless zombie thing, acting merely on impulses sent by the brain from the nervous system/spinal cord. It does not have an actual brain in its head, I should think, but the idea of having two minds acting at once is still there- as Anthony may experience different sensories at the same time.
NOTE: other versions of the chimera usually have a goat's head or even a dragon's head along with the lion's head and the snake tail. I cut this out because it seems a little silly/excessive, and I would honestly prefer to not have such additions- but if for some reason that pleases the gods more, then so be it wink .
Instincts/other problems with a Chimera
*Goats are smelly. This is because they have a musk gland behind the polls on the back of their head. (coincidentally, since my idea of chimera anatomy involves him having a goat's neck....XDD)
* Generally, Anthony's animalistic instincts will be that of a lion's, but his nutritional needs/ stomach is that of a goat's
Alternate Animal Ideas Okay so, there's a big possibility I might not get to have a chimera. Fine, that's cool )': Here are some alternate animals I've thought could fit, and why:
Fly: This is my close-second choice, honestly...if I HAD to ditch the Chimera idea, I'd not mind so much if he could instead be a house fly B)
..and by "house fly", I really mean I want him to slowly turn into Jeff Goldblum xd xd xd

Anthony Timmons :: Shattered Mind If put on the Island... How Anthony gets to the IslandNearly two years from the onset of his disorder, Anthony and his new psychiatrist think it is time he go on a little vacation to relax and rejunivate, meet some new people, get some confidence back, so that he can be ready to live life again.... Why could Moreau want Anthony?1) Disorganized Schizophrenia, since it is all about many thoughts going on at once- "jumbled" thinking- is probably the best mindset to be in if you're going to have more than one head. (besides multiple personality disorder, I mean- but that disorder could be dangerous to others) 2) Though he has a mental disorder, he's never been dubbed as a threat to himself or others. A very stable crazy person, if I do say myself ;3 3) Moreau will no doubt remind Anthony of his father- instilling a sense of fear and a degree of obedience to the man ;3. Speculations on Anthony's possible actions while on Island 1) He will mull over the situation at hand in a very cynical manner at first- comparing it to the holocaust, and generally babbling how it is a prime example of human evil. 2) He may be more jack-assy in the beginning to people, if simply because he will feel extremely frustrated at the situation at hand, and will want to be left alone at times. 3) Anthony will fear Moreau, and possibly anyone else who may remind him of his father, such as someone with Paranoid Schizophrenia <:3... 4) As time progresses he will chill out a little bit- take some time to be more considerate to people/make up for earlier actions. 5) Anthony will hardly ever be cooped up in his Duplex except to sleep and in situations where he may be feeling particularly depressed and anti-social. He'll more-than-likely be outside on a long walk or else on the beach/near a lake, regardless of the time of day. 6) He will care about other characters and their problems, and, unless influenced otherwise, will try to do good things for the islanders he finds he particularly enjoys, despite very negative commentaries he may give. Items Brought to the IslandA computerized Chess game (takes AA batteries) A change of AA Batteries Changes of Clothes Black, Spiral notebook A mechanical pencil Common tioletries (toothbrush/toothpaste, comb, shampoo..etc.) Old, long-range radio (will find example pic here in a second) A swiss-army pocket knife( [x]) Black piece of string Antipsychotic medication

Antony Timmons :: Shattered Thoughts About Deitsae
If you want to contact me via AIM please PM me!
I likes to draw <3 all artwork used for layouting is 100% mine. smile
Experience: I've been RPing for nearly..well. A lot of years now! At least 5, I'd say, though I know it's been longer.
I'm currently a member in the literate roleplay Wild Child: Killer Instinct as Alastair Clemmings, a barn owl freak-of-nature. The RP is similar to IoDM in the fact the kids change into animals, and were experimented on to do so. Research also had to be done on the subject's animal (just as is here).

Anthony Timmons :: Shattered Mind Critiques/Comments/ things I take into consideration. I'll be opened minded about critique- feel free to suggest things as you wish, just please be sincere in your critique sweatdrop .
[ Before you critique please read this post ABOUT THE MENTAL DISORDER THINGI know the 'schizophrenia' thing may be a bit emphasized, and I KNOW lots of people are "crazy" in this RP already..However, for the sake of him being a Chimera- I really think it makes sense to have to have a person with that form of mindset be one of the first human beings to transform with more one than head (on opposite ends of the body, no less), and thus conflicting instincts and senses. At this current point, his Disorganized Schizophrenia is also not so bad. Sure, the potential is there, the prognosis for this disease is bad, but he's not having delusions because it's not schizophrenia paranoia or anything. Plus, let's not overlook the fact it does have the potential to cause some plot to happen in the RP- but I know the limits. Anthony is not some poor "I'm crazy, oh boo-hoo" attention-whore, ambling mindlessly around in need of pity and/or someone to kill just so all the characters will RP with him. He is awkward and has problems , yes, but he's also reasonably mature and, though he may have trouble with it, can handle himself. All in all, if you need a schizophrenic to live on an island with a bunch of other people- he's a fairly good choice. crying I really, REALLY will try not over do the crazy. I will have to be realistic- there will days worse than others- but despite this thread being called "shattered mind" and all- it's NOT the focus of who he is in personality. It affects his concentration more than anything else, but that makes him sort of who he is as well XD. So, in short: His condition is the reason for the chimera thing, but not the reason for his being. He's not dangerous, he's not dependent, and he's not blatantly insane ;3. - - - The bestiality issue with his father is more there for irony and the purpose of him being obedient to Moreau. He's not going to freak out necessarily beause people are animals- it will disturb him deeply and he'll probably need to talk about it with the resident psychiatrist, but it won't send him into a terrible, delusional, autistic state of schizophrenia because of the bad memories it may resurface. I'm willing to take such a thing out, though- just that his father had schizophrenia will be good enough to explain how Anthony got it. - - - I also know going for a chimera is a bold move. I don't think I'm more 'special' than anyone, and I don't want Antony to necessarily be that either. I really don't usually do such things, I just..really think it'd work. crying - - - the more I think about it, the more I think the scar-on-cheek idea is a little too silly, but another part of me likes it. It adds to his character design, and unwillingly exposes things he'd rather not have so nakedly exposed.
Regardless, willing to scrap such a cliche idea if wanted.Got rid of the scar smile - - - Jaar Hey man, good luck with the quest! And just a little note, there's a girl already on the island named Antoinette who goes by the name of Antony. So you know, you may want to consider changing the name before you get too attached ^^ eesh. I completely missed this. I really thought no one else would have used the name Antony. iIt's what I get for reading the member list, but not having sense enough to click ctrl+F, eh?... *sniff* I rather like the name, but if need be I'm willing to change it to Anthony. However, I'll admit I am attached to the name, and it's not completely inconceivable that two people would have the same name (or same name that is also a nickname).
But I'll change if need be <3I changed his name from Antony to Anthony just to avoid future conflict. XD there. Thanks Jaar ^_^ - - - I am not a psychology major, have never taken a class of psychology (want to though), and do not know anyone with schizophrenia. I love psychology, and I love to read about it (not JUST on Wikiepedia XD), but I apologize beforehand if I have gotten something wrong in how a schizophrenic might act or think. I also don't wish to offend anyone- and I hope that I certainly am not offending people.
