 Jibanza yawned.
Today was a rather uneventful day, and she was starting to feel boredom seep into her body, like water through fur. She'd often hang around the family den and amuse herself by 'hunting', however, she longed for something more.
Her brothers were either asleep, or doing something else, because she couldn't find any sign of them around the densite. Chenza, her mother, was most likely off somewhere else, or doing 'adult' stuff.
Boring...
That's when Jibanza decided to wander away from the den. She wouldn't be long, and she'd be careful. She couldn't get into too much trouble by just exploring, right?
Bounding away, Jibanza decided to become an adventurer. It seemed like an amusing thing to do.

On X padded along. He was lost, didn't know where to go, and didn't care to find his way back to where ever he had come from.
Where had he come from anyways? He didn't know.
But then again, maybe he didn't care to remember.
He didn't even care to find wher he came from. Logical thinking says if you wke up alone, no one wants you. He followed that logic and wandered on.
"Where to go from here?" he wondered aloud. He look around. He hadn't encountered anyone thus far. Why would someone appear now.
I'm not afraid...
That's what he told himself, though he was a little. He moved on.

Jibanza, hearing the cracking of sticks underfoot, swiftly wheeled around. She had to be cautious, as a young pup being out alone, and her family had no idea where she actually was.
Still, she was curious to what she saw. A strange creature, tall and sturdy, with a blazing red... mane, of some sort? It's hair was wild... and Jibanza's eyes widened. She'd never seen such a creature!
What was it, and where had it come from so suddenly? Was it friendly? Questions began to well up inside Jibanza, and the pup wagged her tail as the stranger approached.
"Hello, there! What on earth are you?... A lion? Mama said to watch out for lions..."
She tilted her head, narrowing one eyebrow, examining the hyena from head to tail.

On X peared at the female wild dog, with a bit of curiousity.
A lion?
No, he wasn't a lion. "I'm a Hyena..." he said, blinking at her.
I guess every parent lets they're kid run out of sight...
"Who're you and why are you away from your mother," he asked, sitting down, and blinking at her.

"Hyena?" Jibanza asked, puzzled, "That's certainly... a strange word. And you are one of these 'hyena' things? Are you sure that you're not one of those... 'lion' things?"
She edged closer to On X, sniffing him from a few paces away. His scent was unfamiliar... it was quite different from the scents she'd encountered around the den.
"You're alone, huh?" she asked, looking to see if anyone had followed the stranger there. There wasn't anyone else in sight. The hyena was alone.
Cheerfully, Jibanza decided to talk to him. He seemed harmless, and she was bored, and he was very... mysterious, to say the least.
"My name is Jibanza. My friends call me 'Ban'," she grinned, eyes twinkling, "And I'm away from my mother because... I'm on an adventure. I'm rebelling, I guess! Just call me a rebel!"
With this, she winked, then playfully swung a paw near the hyena.
"Do you like playing? What's your name? Where are you from?" she blinked, then smiled, "Where's your mother?"

"I'm... possitive..." he said.
What a weird creature... he thought, backing up a little as she sniffed him.
"Yeah, alone, if you can say that," he said.
He wasn't alone. He had company, and that would be her. How can that possibly be alone right now?
"Okay, 'Ban." he said, with a light nod. "But you shouldn't wander away from your parents. I could be dangerous," he replied.
"Playing? Yeah," he said, sliding back to pounce her. "I don't know where I'm from, and my mother didn't want me anymore," he said.

Jibanza withdrew, immediately.
His mother... didn't want him anymore?
The little pup couldn't find it in her heart to believe the hyena's words. She wondered about her own mother, and how close she was to her. Jibanza's mother meant the world to her, and she had always thought of Chenza warmly. Yes, the relationship between the two seemed a warm one. Jibanza knew that her mother loved all her pups. It was only natural... wasn't it?
How could a mother not care for a cub?
It left Jibanza feeling a little perplexed. Still, she shook it off, deciding not to delve into such a touchy subject. After all, she hardly even knew the stranger. Flinching a little, Jibanza pawed at the stranger again, rolling onto the ground, and was instantly pounced upon.
"You're good!" she laughed, pinned down onto the ground, "Say, what was your name again?"
She stood up, brushing the dust off her coat with a forepaw.
"And, it's fine. My family's busy. I'd just be a hinderance to them if I stayed around the den. Plus, I'll be careful. I'm safe with you, right? You're a boy... so you're strong!"

"Name's On X," he said. "You can call me X though," he said, moving to let her up from the pin. He watched he dust herself off.
He nodded. "I guess your safe with me?" he said, questionly. He almost laughed at her logic.
"Being Careful, doesn't always mean your safe," he said.

Jibanza was kind of glad to see the stranger almost break out into laughter. He seemed the type that may have lived life in solitude, away from the warmth of family and friends. Her brothers may have referred to them as 'loners'.
The young pup realised that she wanted to see On X's smile a little more.
"X, huh?" Jibanza nodded, taking in the name, "Sounds kind of... cool. Your name is really unique, X. I like it."
She wagged her tail slightly, and her eyes twinkled.
"Doesn't mean you're safe? Yeah, well... I've decided to live my life with lotsa' adventure, X. Don't you feel like that, too? You're a pup, aren't you? I'm a pup, too! Just a kid," she dropped down to the floor, and crept slowly up on On X, eyeing him playfully, "I mean... you're bigger than me, but... you seem puppish. And you know, I could take you on!"
She leapt, grinning, pawing wildly at the air, hoping to cuff X on the ear. However, her aim was pretty dodgy. When it came to aiming, Jibanza was usually a lost cause.

Unique? He questioned in his one mind. Surely he wasn't. But his eyes twinkled in a light happiness.
"Thanks," he said with a light smile to he words. It made him glad that at least one person cared for him, or at least said kind words to him.
"Adventuring seems fun," he said. "I haven't been on an adventure though. Only walking," he replied to her. "I guess I'll have to try."
He laughed as he heard the words I can take you on!
He felt her paw pightly brush the side of his muzzle. "What were up aiming for," he said, getting ready to bap her lightly on the nose.

"Shut up, X!" the little pup laughed, doubling over, "I'm not the best at aiming. I still gotta' practice!"
She started to pout, but then was pulled back into reality by her new friend's shaking laughter. Jibanza smiled, then looked into On X's eyes a little sadly. At least they were twinkling, now, with a little more light than before. She dipped her head, scrambled to her paws and rolled over, making 'yipping noises' as she scuffled through the dust. Then, she hesitated... and laughed.
"Games are fun," she nodded, "Just like adventuring. Although, I haven't been on many adventures in my life... I'm still only a pup. I've dreamt of them, though... travelling. Going places. Seeing things. Yeah, that would be fun. X, you should try. Maybe we can go together, one day!"
She stayed on her back, looking up at the clouds. A gentle breeze passed overhead, ruffling her fur, and she looked to On X.
"I want to see the place where water bounces off the rocks," she said, softly, "I think it's called the 'Jungle'. Someday, I want to explore that place. A place that's full of greenery... where shrubs poke through the earth, and trees shield the ground from the sun. To escape from this barren savannah."
Her eyes misted over. These were the things of dreams, and the visions Jibanza wanted to come true. A happy future, full of exploration. Jibanza's childhood dream.
"Where do you want to go, X?" she asked, softly, "What path to adventure will you take?"

On X chucled a little before apoligizing.
X nuzzled her lightly as she rolled onto the ground and his tail shifted lightly. He wondered why she hesitated though.
"Maybe we can," he said with a nod, looking up at the clouds as well. The breeze ruffled his fur softly. A smile played on his face. He liked the wind.
"The jungle?" he questioned. "It sounds like an interesting place. Maybe we can go there together," he replied. He looked back down to her.
"I don't know where to go from here. There is no way to know. Maybe I'll just wander?" he questioned himself more then her. "A path I want to take... I guess I'll have to find it, won't I?"

Jibanza smiled.
"Yeah... we should, someday. It would be fun," she gave a brisk nod, "The Jungle would be a good place to start. I heard that there are trees, and green things that shoot up everywhere! And hunting there would be great fun... so many birds, deer and animals to taste. There's always something to eat, and the ground isn't dusty or hard on your paws. And best of all... there's fountains of falling water. Really fresh water. It wouldn't be dry, like the savannah... I want to see the Jungle. It sounds like... heaven."
She sighed, then got to her paws, and gave On X a lick on his muzzle.
"I'm glad I met you, X," she said, gazing at him with admiration, "You're the first friend I've ever made. I mean... we are friends, now, right?"

On X smiled as well. "It does," he said with a nod. "Lets make a promise that we'll go to thejungle together," his eyes twinkled in a light hope.
"I'm glad I met you as well," he replied. "And of course we're friends."

"Right," Jibanza nodded, then placed her paw out, touching X's, to symbolise some sort of 'pledge', "It's a promise! We'll go together, someday, when we're a little older... and have an adventure!"
She looked to the sky. It was time to head back. Her family would be getting worried by now, and she didn't want to get punished for staying out too late. There would be angry glances. And lectures.
"X," she grinned, "As soon as we grow up, let's meet again, someday," she nodded, then turned, padding off.
"We'll both find a path..." she called out, then bounded off in the distance.
